Leveling Athletics

Post by SeaGtGruff »

I used to level Athletics by finding a corner I could run toward, so I could just let my character run in place while I did something else-- watch TV, read a book, etc.

Aside from that, I would just run everywhere I went, or swim if possible, since swimming is better than running for improving Athletics.

I was trying to hurry up and level Athletics to 100 so I could finally finish the Gray Prince's quest and get the +3 bonuses from his training, so I was spending a lot of time swimming back and forth between the Imperial City and Leyawiin, which was pretty boring.

But then I thought, hang on, why am I not swimming in place? And the perfect place for that is right in my own back yard, as it were-- one of the corners where the little stone causeway connects the main Imperial City Isle with the Waterfront District. So was able to level Athletics from 97 to 100 while playing TES:Legends and TES:Blades on my iPad. :)

Yeah, that's sadly the best strategy. Athletics is really grindy. Acrobatics isn't as terrible, there's a bridge in Cheydinhal where you can jump underneath it extremely quickly to power level.

Huh, I didn't know that! Too bad I'm already at 100% Acrobatics, or I'd try it. It seems to me that jumping no longer levels Acrobatics as much at higher levels unless it's a high jump, so I usually spend some time running around jumping from heights in Bruma, or from the bridge that connects the Mages Academy to the Imperial City. So I guess the thing about jumping under the bridge is that because the bridge blocks you, you can jump repeatedly many more times in a short span of time?

Yep. It's a numbers game, so completing a jump as quick as possible becomes the goal. Acrobatics becomes doubly slower otherwise with jumps lasting longer, and you needing to do more. Athletics is one of the two hardest skills to level in my book, the only as hard is mercantilism. I usually use trainers for those two.

I prefer to jump down Dive Rock taking damage to build acrobatics to banging my head under bridges. It is less mind numbing.

That's interesting! If I hadn't already leveled Acrobatics I would try it. I did something similar on the road north of Lleyawiin-- the one by the eastern shore, not the western shore. There's an Ayleid ruin on top of an incline, and if you leap off of the ruin you can get three or four good jumps in going down the incline before it levels out. I just happened to be there for a quest, and also needed to work on my Acrobatics, so I just decided to while away the time that way. Dive Rock sounds like it would be much more convenient for that. Other than that, I usually like to run around Bruma and jump off of the ledges and rooftops.

The problem with using most inclines, such as the road to Bruma, or mountain sides is that you draw hungry animals to you. That doesn't happen between Dive Rock and the camp. It is probably no accident that the camp has the master acrobatics trainer.

And outlaws. Let's not forget all those pesky outlaws hanging out at various places on the road from Bruma down to Lake Rumare. :)
