Black Books stuck in 'Quest Item' mode

Post by ArPharazon »

The title says it all. I am level 76 and finished off all Black Book quests a long time ago. I need to use one occasionally but I would like to relieve my character fom carrying them around all the time. Is there a console command for example to change the status of items in inventory?

You could try: "player.showinventory", and then select yourself and type "Drop <base ID>"

Yeah, they're permanent quest items. You can use them again to go back and change the rewards you get from them.
Big raims, big taims.

This. They're not meant to be removed, so do so at your own risk.

I was able to drop one of the Black Books this way. But, to pick it up again you have to read it. No other option. And course we all know what that means. In Skyrim nothing, but in Solstheim we are off to never never land. Go to the book there, press 'E' to get back to Solstheim. All fine, but the book is still on the floor.

So, the next question is, how can we 'take' a book and place it in inventory without having to 'read' it first?

AddItem and RemoveItem should work.

It did :D

Do this in your manor in Raven Rock so your Black Books will be stored on Solstheim where they work.

1. player.showinventory (easy way to get IDs; if this looks messed up, save, get out of the game, get back in).
2. player.removeitem <ID> <quantity 1> (one at a time; tedious)
3. palyer.additem <ID> <quantity 1> (one at a time; tedious)
4. Place just added Black Books in Severin Manor's bookcase.

Each Black Book can now be 'read' right from the bookcase. When you get back from never never land the book is right there where you left it, in the bookcase.

I am keeping 'The Sallow Regent' on my character as a quest item for now in case this goes south (I lose my black Book abilities or some such) but I have already traveled to Skyrim, saved, got out, got back in, and went to Solstheim. There they are.

Thanks everyone. Great to get those out of my inventory. Looks like a success, for now.
