How to get previous character's face slider values?

Post by Nord85 »

I'm planning to replay one of my favourite Oblivion characters, but there's a slight problem. Namely, I can't just use her pre-sewer exit save, because I have changed my mod list quite a lot. However, I'd like to get her appearance exactly the same as last time. Is there any other way to get those slider values, than opening the old save and writing the approximate positions by hand? Some mod, or maybe opening the save file somehow? I'd be grateful for any help in this regard.

Honestly, there might be some way but I doubt you can get them other than loading the save and figuring out where the sliders are at.

Load your old file, open the console, type "showracemenu", then you can look at your sliders.

I could have sworn there was a mod that added numerical values to the face sliders, so I double-checked the UESP wiki and I found it. It was kind of buried in the Character Generation article, so it's entirely forgivable that you missed it. I can't speak for its quality, but this should make rebuilding your character easier. So first install that and then, as Rook said, check showracemenu to get your character's numerical face slider values. Ba-da-bing ba-da-boom.

I don't know if it still happens with that mod, but opening the character edit menu always changes the values around to varying degrees, most notably with colors. You'll get an approximation at best.

Thanks for the link, Crawldragon! That'll make things easier, I bet. As for the other replies, well, it looks like my best bet is to see if I have somewhere a copy of the save just before exiting the sewer and take the specs from there. Not fast, but doable. Fortunately I'm in the habit of making such a save separately for each character.
