Cannot install Unofficial Patch
Hello. I have a new pc and installed Oblivion on it without incident.
But I downloaded the Unofficial Patch and as far as I can see, it does not come with any installer or anything. The instructions said to just copy it in the game files. And I did. But it does not appear in data files and the game is not aware of the files, so the patch is not functional. Did I do something wrong? Can someone help me?

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
Sounds like you downloaded the manual install. Look for a version with an installer?

I actually did, and they resulted in the exact same file.

There's an installer version?legoless wrote:Sounds like you downloaded the manual install. Look for a version with an installer?
I downloaded the most recent version, 3.5.4a, from the Nexus and the is no installer version there.
Only one version and a compatibility patch.
The readme covers two (2) ways to install it.
Excerpted from UOP Readme.3. Installation (BAIN)
1.) Copy the Unofficial Oblivion Patch.7z into the folder you use for BAIN installers. The default for this would be Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion Mods\.
2.) In the BAIN tab, make sure the UOP file is at the top of the package list. Right click on it, select "Move To" and use slot 0.
3.) Left click on the file after it's moved. Pick the ESP options you want from the Esp/m menu. Then right click on the file and select "Install".
4.) Once installed, enable the .esp files you selected via the Mods tab. It is recommended to run BOSS at this point to verify load order placement.
5.) Make sure you've got some form of archive invalidation set. You can use Wrye Bash, OBMM, or the ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! for this.
If you are updating the UOP from an older version, after making sure Step 2 is done, you can right click the file and select "Anneal" and it will update the files accordingly while also preserving anything later in your setup that needs to override them.
4. Installation (Manual Version)
1.) Extract Unofficial Oblivion Patch.7z into your Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\ folder.
2.) Enable Unofficial Oblivion Patch.esp in the Oblivion launcher and the other optional plugins from the package.
3.) Make sure you've got some form of archive invalidation set. You can use Wrye Bash, OBMM, or the ArchiveInvalidation Invalidated! for this.
Manual installation of this or any other mod is STRONGLY discouraged. You should make use of Wrye Bash if at all possible. Using OBMM will work, but is not recommended. Absolutely DO NOT use Nexus Mod Manager to install this! NMM does not handle the installation of Oblivion files well and will cause things like missing meshes to crop up in your game because it seems to randomly skip files for no apparent reason.[/url]
Check and see if you have a folder named "Unofficial Oblivion Patch-5296-3-5-3b" (or something similar) in the Oblivion Data folder. The Black Weasel wrote:I actually did, and they resulted in the exact same file.
If there is, open it and see if the UOP files are there.

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
Ya, there was.
I went looking through some of my old files and found a copy of v3.4.4 that used an installer.
Don't remember why I bothered with it
It's not like it's a complicated install.

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
*many months later*
I still cannot install it. I did both a literal copy from archive to stated file directory. Nothing. Did a grab and drag copy. Did show but does not appear in data files when I want to start the game.
Am I really so retarded? I've deleted and re-installed the game 4 times now... wth am I doing wrong?

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
Are you extracting the UOP to the Oblivion directory folder (Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion) or to the Data folder (Steam\steamapps\common\Oblivion\Data)?

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
This might be your problem.

The UAC (User Account Control) can cause problems.
Create a folder on C: drive and name it Games.
Install Oblivion in the Games folder (C:\Games\Oblivion).
Try and install the UOP now.
As many times as you've reinstalled, why not try one more time outside the Program Files (x86) folder.
Bonne chance !

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
Thank you for your help. I'll see about trying it sometime soon.
Followed instructions. 7Zip did actually unzip it correctly, but the game does not recognize the esp file.
Could it be that I have the wrong unofficial patch? Do I need another one for SI + KOTN?
Either way. Game works anyway.

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch
The KotN patch is part of the Unofficial Oblivion DLC Patch.
This UOP (#1 Most endorsed file of all-time on the Oblivion Nexus) is the only UOP I know of.
There is an Unofficial Oblivion 12416 Patch but Bethesda is it's author so I don't know why it has the unofficial moniker.
I believe it updates the version of Oblivion (I could be wrong).

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
Should I just install that/overwrite where needed?
-edit-
I did and the data files still does not recognize it. Even after a complete re-install. I have no clue anymore.

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
When you say "...the data files still does not recognize it.", what do you mean?
Do you mean the .esp isn't in the Data folder?
Have you tried extracting to somewhere else, say your desktop, then draging the file into the Data folder?
Or cut & paste them into it?
I can't think of any reason for the .esps from the UOP for not being in the Oblivion Data folder.
1. Install UOP
2. Install USIP
3. Install UODLCP
I don't recall that any of the patches overwrote one of the others.

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
The file is where it should be. When I display data files, it only shows oblivion.esp, shivering.esp and kotk.esp. The esp for the unofficial patch does not appear in the load list. Therefor, it cannot be activated.

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
Do you have the same problem when/if you add files from a mod (any mod)?

Re: Cannot install Unofficial Patch
I have not yet installed any mods yet. Though at this point, unofficial patch or not, I'm just glad I can actually play the game again. And the discs I have did come with the latest "official" patch, so I guess that will have to do.
