Halo 5
Surprised there isn't a thread for this yet. (and if there is, tell me and I'll lock this one and post in the other one).
So I preordered and pre-downloaded and am ready to play some Halo tonight! Looking forward to it, too. The gameplay looks great. Just watched a live multiplayer tournament and it looks super fun.
Anybody else?

Re: Halo 5
Well, I don't have my Xbone with me here at uni (brought my 360 instead), not to mention I won't have a lot of gaming time until my co-op term starts in January... which is why it all works out that I'm asking for it for Christmas. Same goes for Fallout 4. But I'm still hyped!
Start the groove.

Re: Halo 5
Is it odd, from a major Halo fan since Combat Evolved first was released n a reader of the official books, that I feel no hype for Halo 5?? I just think Halo 4 burned out my experience. Now dont get me wrong, I am curious as to how 5 will be, but I have always been in it for its story n lore. The sheer fact I have yet to consider buying the new instalment catches even me by surprise
I'll just have to wait n see if it meets the story I so crave

Re: Halo 5
Got a physical copy to go with all my other Halo discs, so I'll be picking it up in the morning. Pretty pumped to play, since I just replayed the first 4 games over the past week or so to refresh the story. Otherwise, I've been avoiding Halo 5 stuff, since I don't want the experience ruined. As I usually do with games like this, I'll beat the campaign first before even touching the multiplayer. And if 5 follows in the same vein as the others, the campaign shouldn't take more than 10 hours, and that's taking my time. But yeah, I'm excited.
Also, it's not surprising that this thread didn't exist, since last I checked there were only a handful of people on this site with the One. Has that number grown any, or is current gen Microsoft still something of a taboo around here?

Re: Halo 5
Well, began the campaign. So far so fun!
Encountered a glitch on the fifth mission that caused me to fall through the map and hit a checkpoint. So now when I try to load, I'm stuck on a ledge way way below where I'm supposed to be. Glitch will be in spoiler box in case you don't want to know anything, but I'll keep the description pretty clean.

i'll probably pick up an X1 around christmas, so i'll get to it then, but I'm looking forward to it.
I've never been a stickler for framerate but having a halo game locked at 60 is a real draw.

Re: Halo 5
Completed the campaign on Heroic. I really enjoyed it, but I'm left with a lot of questions. I'll be vague here, but I don't properly understand the antagonist's motivation. I encountered that a bit in 4, but given the nature of this antagonist, I'm doubly confused. I think part of my confusion comes from the fact that after the first quarter of the game, you essentially are thrown into major fight after major fight. While this gives each battle a fairly epic and important scale, it kind of messes with the pacing, and I didn't feel like I could figure out what was going on. Instead of explaining details while I am in the middle of fighting off masses of enemies, I'd have liked a little more downtime in which things got explained.
I had heard that the campaign was confusing for people that hadn't studied Halo's lore, but I'm not sure I agree with that. Some reviewers complained of not knowing who the members of the teams are previously, but I didn't have an issue with that, as they explain enough. Again, the antagonist's motivation was my biggest confusion, but I struggle to see where that would have been explained in material from outside of the games. Either way, there is certainly an interesting setup in place for Halo 6.
Also, if you play on Heroic, there is no scene after the credits. I just confirmed this.

Re: Halo 5
I'm not sure if it's because of the squad mechanics or what, but so far I am actually succeeding in progressing on Legendary. Granted I've only completed the first two missions, but neither made me want to tear my hair out so I take that as a good sign. This might end up being the first Halo game where I earn the Lone Wolf achievement.
I've also been playing a bit more of the multiplayer and I haven't been half bad at it. It may be the new movement mechanics are causing the expert players to rethink their strategies a little, so my success is due to their lack of familiarity. It could also be that the game is new enough that everyone is on level ground, whereas when I usually play MP FPS games, I play late and people have had time to get way better than me. Either way, good times.
Now I'm just waiting on friends to get the game so I can enjoy it with them. I'm a little sad that split screen is gone, but hopefully that'll encourage my friends to actually get it and not just rely on me for their chance to play.

Re: Halo 5
How far in the campaign have you progressed? Also, what are your thoughts on Warzone? I think once I get a few friends in, that will be our go to game mode, since it offers so many different objectives and accommodates a number of playstyles.

Re: Halo 5
I'm on mission 14 of the campaign, playing a few hours each day. Haven't played today yet. So I should be finished soon.
Warzone is probably one of my favorite parts of the multiplayer. I love objective type games anyway, and this is like territories on steroids.
I also like the new mode where there's only one life per round. I forget what it's called at the moment. That seems like a great mode to play with friends and chat.

Re: Halo 5
Warzone is 12v12 team battle. There are two different versions, one that plays like Territories, in that you kill the team that controls an area to take it for yourself. The game lasts until one team gets 1000 points. Points are earned through kills and captures.
The other version is asymmetric with one team on defense, one on offense. Once a territory is taken it's gone for good. This version is timed, and as long as the defending team keeps their reactor in the last building from being destroyed, they win.

Re: Halo 5
I assume you mean breakout. I agree. It's a pretty cool game type, fast paced and tense, feels a bit like SWAT, in how quickly you can be killed.Musicman247 wrote: I also like the new mode where there's only one life per round. So Halo 5 introduces a new enemy type that feels to me like the Promethean answer to the Hunter, but a lot more difficult. Even on the lower difficulties, these guys are a pain to kill. As with any good game, they are gradually introduced and become more frequent later on. In my Legendary run I'm trying, I just encountered the first one, and it took me about 30 mins to beat him alone. I feel great that I finally did it, but now I dread the later levels in which I have to fight them.

Re: Halo 5
Yeah, Breakout. I'd love to get a group of friends with headsets to plan out strategies for each round. "Ok, this round we go for the flag capture, then we go in twos for the kills." Stuff like that. The games I've played everyone seemed to be going solo, which isn't really what you want for that kind of match.
My guess is you're talking about the Wardens. Yeah, the last encounter with them had me cursing up a storm on Heroic mode. On the flip side, I dont know how, but I ended up performing an assassination animation on one once to kill it. Felt pretty freaking amazing.

Yeah, I was avoiding names in case it was going to spoil anything, but I guess if someone knows about them, it doesn't make a big difference. I hate those [&@%!]. I didn't know that you could assassinate them. That is amazing. I feel like assassinations in general are a lot harder to pull off in this game. Maybe because I'm sprinting more often and end up charging instead of assassinating.Musicman247 wrote: My guess is you're talking about the Wardens. Warzone? Sounds alot likr how invasion in Reach is played, sort of. Objective based but clearly equally as aggressive to BTS >_> I recall points being introduced in 4, but I still am on the fence for it.. namely bc how easy it is to lock the competition
May I ask, how has MP done the loadouts? Bc pls, dont tell me the plamsa pistol n grenade are available or that the boltshot still is op<_<

Re: Halo 5
There aren't loadouts in the same sense. You start every game with a standard layout, usually AR and pistol, and can grab weapons on the map, much like older Halo games. In Warzone, you can use REQ points to call in various weapons and vehicles. REQ points are basically awarded for doing well in a game. So the loadout system of Halo 4 is gone, but in Warzone, you can still call in "drops" like you could in that game. Works really well in my opinion.BetaB17 wrote:May I ask, how has MP done the loadouts? Bc pls, dont tell me the plamsa pistol n grenade are available or that the boltshot still is op<_<
Also, I beat it on Legendary last night, which is pretty [&@%!] incredible for a player like me. I spent about three hours on one fight alone and I'll bet anyone who's played it can guess which one that was. Finally beat it though, and boy the post credits scene is tantalizing. No spoilers here, though I'd guess someone's already got it up on YouTube if I know anything about the internet.
I grabbed the skulls today after I found a couple while looking for intel. I'm not ashamed to admit I used a guide for most of them because a couple (Glassed and Evacuation) are absolutely ludicrous if you don't know how to get them. The rest are at least manageable, but tedious to find. If I hadn't found a few accidentally, I probably wouldn't have bothered looking for the rest right now. I just didn't like having only a few done, and wanted to complete the set.
Working on intel collection now. It's a right pain with Chief, as he doesn't have the Artemis detection system that Locke has, but I've managed so far. I believe I only have a couple of levels left to grab them all. Once that's done, I'm going to spend most of my time in Multiplayer unless some friends want to work on singleplayer achievements with me, or someone's looking to do a co-op Legendary run. While I proved that it's possible solo, I wouldn't wish it on anybody I know haha.

Re: Halo 5
You can also change your starting weapon in Warzone after you've racked up enough kills and have unlocked the weapons from REQ packs. Right now I can start with any combination of AR, Pistol, BR and SMG as soon as I hit REQ level 3 in-game.scribbane wrote:There aren't loadouts in the same sense. I'll probably try to play through on Legendary, but I doubt I'll wait to watch the after credits scene.

Re: Halo 5
It was definitely rewarding to see it after dealing with that final fight on Mission 14...you know the one of which I speak. However, since nothing else in the game's story was changed by Legendary (at least that I noticed), as long as you've beaten the campaign seeing that scene doesn't affect anything. Like I said, for me it was definitely bolstered by the fact that I 100% earned it that made it that much better, especially since it was my first ever Halo legendary completion.Musicman247 wrote:I'll probably try to play through on Legendary, but I doubt I'll wait to watch the after credits scene.
