Assassin's Creed: A Brotherhood Divided

Assassin's Creed: A Brotherhood Divided
Image

When America was first discovered by the Europeans, it was a fresh place to start over for many, far away from the petty squabbles of their homelands. But try as they might, the call for liberty led to war. With the aid of the driven Assassin, Ratonhnhaké:ton (commonly known as Connor), the people beat back their British masters and a new nation was created: one in which every man was his own master, and the only laws were those which the people supported. The Assassins were rebuilt from the brink of destruction by Connor, a seemingly impossible feat after their near destruction at the hands of the Assassin turncoat, Shay Patrick Cormac and his Templar allies. But peace cannot last forever, the people have rallied against their young government in a civil war which will rock the country to it's core, and only time will tell if it will not destroy all that has been accomplished.

The Setting:
http://www.denofgeek.us/games/assassins ... ory-so-far

It is January 2015, and the Assassins are fighting a losing battle against Abstergo Industries . After the story of the traitor, Shay Cormac, was released to the Assassins, numerous good men and women deserted the Assassins to join forces with the Templars, disgusted at the actions of Achilles and seeing the Templars as more sympathetic figures. Desperate to regain morale, the Assassins have launched a project to study a certain Alistair Bennett. Raised a Templar, fought as an Assassin. You have been kidnapped by the Assassins, who wish to use the Animus to explore your Assassin ancestor's memories, so as to reveal the true story of Alistair and the long-forgotten history of the Assassins and Templars in the Civil War.

In 1861, 12 days after the Battle of Fort Sumpter, a conclave is being held between two groups of Assassins: the Crows, who wish to bring order to the nation through helping the government, and the Eagles, Assassin purists who will fight on the side of rebellion, regardless of the consequences. Your ancestors have journeyed to the summit with the Crows to seek a compromise.

__________________________________________________
Mechanics:
Like most roleplays on UESP, this will be a play-by-post RP. Outcomes of actions will be determined by a combination of dice rolls, your character's S.P.E.C.I.A.L., and common sense (e.g. No "Rick Astley lifted the cow over his head and threw it at the Templar, killing him instantly.")

For those who aren't familiar with S.P.E.C.I.A.L, here is a brief explanation. You will get 29 points to spend in any category you wish, with each attribute starting at 1 with a maximum of 10. (can be affected by traits, which will be explained in a moment). Certain traits can push attributes over the limit or under zero. Attempting to use an attribute with a negative value can result in a disastrous outcome.
Hidden:
Strength: Pure physical power, affects actions such as fighting and lifting. Also affects climbing somewhat.

Perception: The ability to interpret your five basic senses. Affects use of firearms and the effectiveness of Eagle Vision.

Endurance: In layman's terms: stamina. Affects how much punishment your character can take and how long they can run.

Charisma: The ability to charm, convince, and deceive. Affects dialogue (though stupid or obvious lies will still be detected) and the effectiveness of disguises.

Intelligence: Determines how much you know about the world. A character with a high Intelligence might receive hints on how to deal with situations.

Agility: Your character's litheness. Affects climbing, running, and dodging.

Luck: Fate. Karma. An extremely high or low Luck will affect the character - somehow. Events and situations will be changed by how lucky (or unlucky) your character is.

_________________________________________________
Traits:
Traits can affect certain aspects of your character, including boosting or decreasing attributes or giving new abilities. Feel free to make up your own, just make sure there is at least one drawback. I reserve the right to deny submitted traits. Remember, traits don't necessarily have to beneficial. You can have a maximum of two traits, one, or none at all.

NOTE: You can only have one of the Eagle skills, and I would prefer only a couple people choose one at all, as these abilities are supposed to be rare.

NOTE.2: Only one Martyr or Reaver allowed. You cannot take both traits.
Hidden:
One Bullet in the Chamber: The first shot is often the deadliest. Your first shot often finds its mark, but you can only carry 5 bullets out of a maximum of 10.

One with Nature: You have a way with animals. You can calm barking dogs, pet deer, and sing with the birds. However, people find you a little... off. (-2 Charisma)

Traditional: You follow the traditions of the Levantine Brotherhood. You can only use one hidden blade, but you are much more effective with it and gain +1 Strength.

Martyr: Your allies gain (+1) to all stats while you are with them, but while you are with them, you suffer for their sakes. (-2 to all stats).

Reaver: Your allies lose (-1 to all stats) suffer while you are with them, but you gain (+2 to all stats)

Basic Eagle Vision: Through small deposits of Precursor DNA in your bloodline or hard training, you have gained the ability to use basic Eagle Vision. Your sight is improved and you notice many things others do not (Perception +2, as well as numerous other story benefits), but are easily distracted and tired by your discoveries ( Charisma -1, Luck -1).

Eagle Sense: Your senses have been honed to the limit. When using Eagle Sense, as well as activating basic Eagle Vision and the benefits that entails, your hearing is greatly improved. When assassinating a target with your Hidden Blade(s), you can read their memories for a short time. Using Eagle Sense tires you out greatly, however, and cannot be used when intoxicated. (Perception +3, Intelligence +1, Story Benefits, -1 Luck, -1 Strength, -1 Endurance.)

Refined Eagle Vision: Due to large deposits of Precursor DNA and hard training, your senses are at their peak (Perception +3, Strength +1, Intelligence +1). When assassinating a target with your hidden blade, you may engage in a short conversation with them, wherein they may divulge valuable information (Story Benefits, ho!). You can use basic Eagle Vision, but suffer numerous drawbacks (-3 Luck, -1 Endurance, -1 Charisma)

________________________________
Historical Armor:
All assassins are equipped with light, leather armor on top of their robes. Heavier armor is near useless, given the rural environment. The Assassin Crows wear navy blue and red robes to symbolize their devotion to the nation. The Assassin Eagles wear traditional white and red robes to symbolize their purity and devotion to the Creed.

Modern Day Armor:
The Assassins have ditched the robes in favor of more modern hooded garments. Brotherhood spec-ops teams typically wear such clothing with bullet proof vests.
_______________________________
Weapons:
You may carry one large weapon, a small weapon, your hidden blade(s), a pistol, and five of one tool. You may carry an additional small weapon at the cost of (-1 Agility.) You may carry up to four firearms, losing -1 Agility for the second one added. The third and fourth firearms will cost -1 Charisma each, in addition to the aforementioned Agility penalty.

Historical Weapons:
Hidden:
Large Weapons

Cavalry Saber: A basic sword that is effective both on horseback and on foot.

Musket: A large firearm used for hunting. Cumbersome both on horseback and foot, but usable on both.

Bow and Arrow: A somewhat conspicuous and outdated weapon, the bow has its merits as a silent weapon.

Naval Axe: A large and cumbersome axe which remains a fearsome sight to behold.

Small Weapons:

Assassin Tomahawk: A tomahawk in the form of an Assassin symbol, this iconic weapon is typically wielded alongside the ejected hidden blade.

Dirk: An elongated dagger, large and durable enough to serve as a shortsword.

Iron Dagger: A sharp and easily concealed knife, though not particularly durable.

Tools:

Rope Dart: A tool invented by legendary Chinese Assassin Shao Jun, the rope dart can be used to pull foes towards the Assassin or even hang them, allowing the Assassin to descend from the treetops for dramatic effect.

Smoke Bomb: Smoke Bombs have been employed by the Assassins since the Renaissance to disorient their opponents or to aid in escape. A simple gas mask can render the smoke bombs disorientation property useless, but the smokescreen is thick enough to render most targets blind.

Poison Dart: The poison dart launcher is the only upgrade capable of fitting onto the American hidden Blade. When fired, the dart secretes a poison which can throw enemies into a frenzy, and eventually kills them.

Trip Mine: Based off of Ottoman designs, the trip mine is a subtle yet deadly tool which is triggered by movement. However, it does not discriminate between targets, and can kill allies or civilians.

Hidden Blade(s) (Mandatory)

"The Hidden Blade has been a constant companion of ours over the years. Some would say it defines us – and they would not be entirely wrong. Many of our successes would not have been possible without it."
―Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad

The American Brotherhood employs a different brand of hidden blade from their European counterparts. The Pivot Blade allows them to eject the left-hand blade, allowing the Assassin to wield it as a knife or in conjunction with another weapon. The American Hidden Blade is more durable, though less sharp, than the French Hidden Blade, and can be used in combat. Due to its size, however, the American Hidden Blade lacks the upgrades possible to the Italian and English hidden blades.

Modern Day Weapons:
Hidden:
Large Weapons:
M16: A classic assault rifle, typically distributed to commandos.

SVD: Based on the Russian Dragunov, this recent Abstergo-created semi-automatic sniper rifle has garnered much favor in the Brotherhood due to its power and sleek design.

M104: A shotgun favored by security guards and S.W.A.T. teams all over America.

Small Weapons:
1911: An American classic pistol, the 1911 is powerful and accurate in the right hands.

R-2000: An Abstergo-developed submachine gun, the R-2000 is a fast-firing weapon with a decent bite and a quiet bark.

Stun Gun: An electrical weapon developed by the Brotherhood and favored by Assassin kidnappers. Useless at anything but extremely close range, the stun gun can topple a fully grown man for up to 10 minutes per dosage.

Tactical Baton: A simple, 21 inch collapsible baton. In the right hands, even heavy combat armor can be rendered ineffective against numerous wallops.

Hidden Blade (Mandatory):
Modern assassins only carry one hidden blade so as to remain somewhat inconspicuous. The hidden blade has retained its usefulness due to its small size, sharpness, and additional upgrades. It is made of a specialized plastic, so it cannot be detected by metal detectors.

I may NEVER succeed, the Assassins may struggle for another thousand years in vain, but we will not stop! Compromise, that is what everyone has insisted upon. And so I have learned it, but differently than most I think. I realize now that it will take time, that the road ahead is long and shrouded in darkness. It is a road which will not always take me where I wish to go and I doubt I will live to see it’s end, but I will travel down it nonetheless. For at my side walks hope. In the face of all that insists I turn back, I carry on. This...THIS IS my compromise!

It's not that, I'm just not sure about the past/future kind of thing. I've always had a hard time with it.

If there's a specific problem you have with it, I'll try my best to explain. If it helps, the RP will take place predominantly inside the Animus, but you will come out a couple times like in AC3.

I am interested but i have a few questions.

Can i have my own ship if i give a decent justification?

Is there anything that is off limits?

For the modern day parts, do we know everything about subject 17's ancestors/choose to know everything or is this on a need to know only basis and we only know about our ancestors.

1. Sure, but you won't have it with you at the start: both the Crows and the Eagles have taken a single boat apiece to the summit at Davenport Manor.

2. Could you specify?

3. You're just random citizens who know nothing about the Assassins or the Templars. You'll be told everything you need to know by the Assassins in the beginning. Theoretically, you could know that your ancestor was part of a "cult", but you wouldn't know the specifics about it.

I'm finding it difficult to pick values for SPECIAL. Seeing as there are 7 categories and you have to distribute 29 points between them -that makes an average of ~4 for each, so if you have anything that the person is good at (say about a 7 or 8 ) then the others have to all be really low.
(Or am I doing it wrong?)

No, you're doing it correctly. It's a balance of power: if you're exceptionally good at one thing, you probably won't be more than fair at another.

I'm making a character for this.

I made two. I would've liked to have more luck on Lana since she is now a cluts and a weakling to boot but I guess it fits at least.

MODERN DAY:
Spoiler:
Name: Lana De Flores
Age: 23
Appearance:
Hidden:

Medium height at 5'7" Lana has beautiful womanly features with brown hair and green/hazel eyes.
Equipment: SVD, 1911
Background (can choose not to reveal): Lana was born into a well-off family of modern day royalty, in other words she was rich from old money but of little other importance. She hated the trappings of wealth and threw herself into her two great loves, lying, and sharp shooting. Her father had her enrolled to learn to protect herself in shooting classes but quickly she found that she had a knack for it. After winning several tournaments she dropped out of the circuits by request of her father. When he was murdered, Lana inherited his wealth but was joined the assassins for protection and to seek revenge.
Personality (can choose not to reveal): A liar, a seductress and as backhanded as any assassin ever.

Most of Wematin's tribe chose to flee, but his grandfather chose to to assimilate into the culture of the American people. Wematin was raised amongst other Indians (though most were Iroquois) in a small ghetto in Massachusetts. He was recruited into the assassins after the death of his mother on the promise that his sister would be taken care of. He has a vast knowledge of herbs, remedies and basic first aid at the time that is a mix of what his father taught him and what he has learned from the assassins.

One problem: Only one Martyr or Reaver can be in either party. Shadow already took the Reaver trait for his historical character, so you'll need to choose something else or make something up. I would recommend grabbing Refined Eagle Vision, as that probably has the most story benefits and we may as well complete the set.

Otherwise, it's a great sheet. It's cool to see such a diverse cast, it fits with the Assassin philosophy.

I will get mah character done by sunday, Rook. Just been busy and haven't had ze time to focus on an AC character. Also, is a Man O War too far fetched for me to have? Or can i have just "Aquired" it via some unsavoury means involving a pork pie, a blade and poison?

I would recommend something smaller that befits an Assassin, like a schooner or a brigantine. If you gave me a really good reason for you to have a man-of-war, I'd consider it, but the most likely answer is no.
