A New Dawn
“Across the sea of space, the stars are other suns.”
― Carl Sagan
― Carl Sagan
Screens across the Solar System flicker as the announcement begins. An elderly woman steps up to a podium and clears her throat. The banner below states that it is Chancellor Elizabeth Hawkins, the head of government and the Director of Yakihama. She begins to speak, "As many of you know, humanity now stands endangered. Placed in peril by the same forces that allowed us to thrive. For ages, we have looked into the sky and wondered 'Are we alone? Why are we even here?' Even now, as we are faced with total destruction, these question go unanswered. For millennia we watched. For centuries we listened. All for some random static and background radiation. Yet, we continued. We hoped. We awaited the day that we would be faced with a moment that changed us forever. That moment came and passed, and showed us what must be done to safeguard our future. Shortly, many of you will find yourselves face to face with the elite of our military. You will be the heroes that we need. Please be the heroes that we need."

Hidden:
• 2035- The United Social Space Corporation is founded. Within 10 years, they have all but monopolized the industry of space flight.
• 2050- USC colonies formed on the Moon as a jumping point to Mars. Other corporations branch off from the USC, becoming their own corporations, the most prominent being Apex. Over the course of the next 50 years, these companies slowly acquire multitudes of smaller companies outside their industry, giving them a foothold in nearly every market.
• 2100- The majority of western governments, having had to sell land just to stave off debt, finally succumb to bankruptcy. The USC and Apex, effectively the only super corporations left, make a deal with the governments, funding them in return for absolute support in their endeavors.
• 2180- The solar system is effectively colonized due to the rapid expansion implemented shortly after the USC's and Apex's rise to power. Small skirmishes take place between the USC and Apex across the colonies, results of a supposed assassination attempt on the CEO of Apex. The first expedition outside of the solar system is launched, containing a crew of 300 volunteers in cryo-sleep aboard the USS Columbus funded by Apex. Contact ended within the next 10 years. Their whereabouts are currently unknown.
• 2193- The War to become WW3 between the two takes place. Using their influence on the few remaining governments left on earth, each corporation takes control of the military forces still in existence. Apex reveals and outfits the forces with the first Delta suit, Delta-0. Millions are killed as colonies on Mars and the Moon are razed.
• 2209- The War comes to an end. Officially there is no victor, and both corporations are severely weakened. Yakihama emerges as a powerful third corporations, and a peace is formed. A weak ‘government’ is formed between the three as each strives to take control, this time through political machinations instead of violence.
• 2232- F.R.E.E performs its first organized attack upon the government elite, killing the head of Apex. This marks the start of the unofficial official war against the rebels. The Government denies that this event ever happened.
• 2283- Resources within the solar system are all but depleted. Research into faster-than-light (FTL) travel is focused on at the discovery of warp fields produced by experimental thrusters.
• 2295- An IDG (Inter-Dimensional Gate) is created by accident at the test firing of the first warp drive. A squad of marines are sent in, never to be heard from again. The Gate, thought to be a semi-stable wormhole, collapses moments before a second squad could enter.
• 2299- An undetected 1 km wide asteroid of unknown origin and material collided with Mars, instantly wiping out the majority of the population of the planet. Those that survived were soon killed by the intense radiation that was released upon impact, which wipes through the remaining population leaving few, if any, alive. Mars is placed under extreme quarantine, with any ships that stray to close to the atmosphere being instantly brought down by high orbital installations for fear of contamination.
•2300- The source of the Asteroid, now dubbed Arkemis 1, is discovered by astronomers, with the origin being located approximately 16,000 lightyears from Earth in a system in the interior of the gallaxy. The previously unnamed system is named Arkemis. Other asteroids are detected to be incoming, many which will impact various planets. The SSUC reassigns its two newest exploration ships to investigate the system and establish a colony if possible..
• 2301- Several attempts at creating a stable Gate later, the first ship mounted Gate Drive is a success. The ship in question is the SCV Clark, along with its protector class ship, the SCV Lewis. Efforts to crew the vessels are currently underway, both voluntary and involuntary, as other asteroids approach the Sol system.

Factions
Hidden:
United Social Corp. - The USC was the first of the “Great Corporations” having been founded in the Mid-21st century, and, up until the Great War, was regarded as being the most powerful. Since then, however, they have suffered in a decline in power and now consist the middle bulk of the government. Being the oldest organization, the USC still adheres to some principles that were practiced at their creation. The CEO is elected by a majority every 20 years, and there is no limit to the number of terms they can hold. Below the CEO is a Board of Directors that oversee their respective divisions such as tech, military, education... etc. The Board is appointed by the CEO when they are elected, and as such, it is not uncommon for the same members to be a part of the Board for their entire lifetime. The Board holds the majority of the power within the USC, and the CEO is largely ceremonial after the appointment of the Board.
Apex- The underdog of the corporations, Apex is largely regarded as the weakest, even before the Great War, despite them having the most advanced technology. It was in Apex labs that the IDG technology was discovered and developed. This has led to the other Corporations trying to dig their way into the project, sending spies to infiltrate and steal knowledge. Apex lies at the bottom of the governmental hierarchy, and therefore has the most to gain from the IDG venture. Apex functions through a modified version of how the USC does, with the exception that it is the Board who is elected and the CEO appointed.
Yakihama- The newest and most powerful Corporation, Yakihama took center stage in the aftermath of the Great War, rising to dominance while the others were still reeling. It is at the top rung of the governmental ladder, and usually has the most say in the actions it performs. Yakihama operates through a monarchy-style system formed by Isiah Hawkins. His descendents become either the Head Director of the company or the representatives within the SSUC depending on where they are on the line of succession.
Marines- The Marines are the military force of the government, though each corporation controls and outfits its own
forces. This has led to severe tension and jealousy between each ‘Faction’ as Yakihama and USC are usually able to better outfit their forces than Apex would be. While the Marines as a whole serve the government, they largely only answer to their own Corporation. This leads to some... interesting orders where a squad of marines might be ordered to attack another factions marines.
F.R.E.E- (Fighters for the Reclamation of Equality for Everyone) A shadowy group of rebels that are as elusive as they are ruthless. Many who have lived through encounters with them never speak of it, and even more believe that they don’t even exist, a ploy by independent rebel militias to make them seem bigger than they are. Their supposed goals are to overthrow the corporations and remove the wealthy elite from power at any cost they deem necessary in order to further mankind’s ability to explore and advance. How they aim to do this should they come to power remains to be seen.
Titans- The Elite of the Marines, the Titans are a small group of enhanced soldiers, having had their body enhanced (and in some cases, replaced) by technology. These warriors are kept as a great secret and knowledge of their existence is only given to those who absolutely need it. Titans are the only force not under the direct control of any corporation. They only answer to the Fleet Admiral to which they are assigned and the Chancellor. The Titans are recruited as children (under the guise that they are being groomed as SSUC officials, which in some ways they are) and trained until they reach the age of 20, where they go through the dangerous and painful surgeries ‘transforming’ them into a Titan. They act as the SSUC’s shadow forces, eliminating targets with extreme precision, and performing their missions in squads of three. If a Titan is lucky enough to reach the age of 40, they are allowed to retire as an Admiral, with the most exceptional becoming Fleet Admirals.
SSUC- The government, known officially the Sol System Unification Conglomerate, rules the Sol system with an iron fist. They control and regulate all production and trading between the colonies, and protect the system somewhat. Certain pirate organizations are known to operate with the unstated permission of the SSUC, though they deny any association. The SSUC is currently controlled by Elizabeth Hawkins, the Head Director of Yakihama and the granddaughter of Isaiah Hawkins.

Weapons and Armor
Hidden:
Delta-X Battlesuit- The official battlesuit of the Marines consisting of a light cellular membrane to protect Marines from short exposures to the outside space. Attached to this are plates of armor that interlock, providing complete protection and they vary in color from corporation to corporation. Powered joints aid in movement, and allow the marine to lift objects many times larger than him or herself. The USC has red, Apex black, and Yakihama sports a deep purple color. Upon the back of the battle-suits are a pack containing all of the life-support needed for any situation, save any span of time longer than 5 minutes in space. The helmet contains a brainwave sensor, which allows squads to communicate silently.
Omega M9 Battlesuit- The newest, strongest, most advanced suit to be created yet. These suits are given only to Titans, or Fleet Admirals on the rare occasions they go into the field. Exact specifications are classified.
Plasma Weaponry- These weapons fire a bolt of contained plasma at extremely fast speeds, allowing the projectile to rip through a targets flesh like a hot knife through butter. Plasma weaponry is not effective, however, upon non-living entities such as vehicles or objects. Plasma weapons can range from shotguns that fire flurries of bolts, to rifles, pistols, sniper rifles, or even mini-guns.
AMA Weaponry- AMA weapons, or Anti-Matter Accelerators, excel where plasma fails. Firing a single atom of Anti-matter contained within a magnetic field, the projectile can destroy a tank with a single round. The downside is that the rate of fire is extremely slow, the weapon itself is large, and the risk of a catastrophic malfunction is extremely high. AMA’s are most often in the form of vehicle mounted weapons, or, occasionally, shoulder-fired launchers. These are rarely used on living targets as it is far more efficient to use a plasma weapon.
Titans- The common aspects of all Titans are the reinforced bone structure, in which bones are either plated or replaced entirely by a rigid alloy that increases the amount of damage it is able to withstand. Joints are augmented by motors gifting Titans even greater strength than the DeltaX. Modifications to the nervous system decrease reaction time by tenfold and also increase their running speed. Within the patient’s brain, a computer is implanted. The computer allows Titans to receive orders and communicate all by thought, while also creating a HUD System, relaying all information the Titan needs to complete his/her mission. Various other modifications can be made to the patient’s body at their request, with the only limits being their ability to survive the operations. Weapons can be implemented into the Titan, though many opt for the carried versions that other Marines use. There are many cases of these surgeries going awry, crippling and often killing the patient.

Hidden:
Inter-Dimensional Gate (IDG) - Created by accident as Apex sought to make extra-solar travel possible, the IDG is thought to be a wormhole. Only made stable enough to send people and ships through recently, the first travel capable model produces a hole large enough for approximately two ships to pass through before it collapses upon itself.
SCV Clark - A large capital ship with a crew of 2000 men and women, augmented by several AI programs designed to aid in the maintenance and everyday functions of the ship. The AI is not at the same level as Human intelligence and is just smart enough to run basic systems. Besides the 2000 strong crew, the vessel also contains the living quarters, complete with artificial gravity for an additional 800 personnel. This cutting edge ship is fitting with the only Gate Drive currently in existence, and has been commissioned as an exploration/colonization vessel. The Clark is a joint effort within the SSUC and marines from all three companies are stationed aboard. The ship is approximately 10 Km long. SCV Lewis - A large Battle-Cruiser that was specially built for this assignment. It is crewed by a select 650 personnel who operate and maintain the vessel exclusively, with no AI being trusted enough to be present. It is armed to the teeth with a multitude of large plasma cannons, AMA cannons firing basketball sized projectiles, and an experimental Dark Matter Accelerator. It is approx 2 km long.
Arkemis 1- An asteroid that impacted Mars two years ago, originating in a system very far away from Sol. Contained within the asteroid was a large amount of radiation, of a type that is only known to occur from the creation of an IDG. The material composition of the asteroid is theorised to be mostly iron, or a similar metal, but due to the dangerous conditions on the surface, this cannot be verified.

Locations
Hidden:
Apex Research Facility- Covering the entire surface of Pluto, the research facility is where the first IDG was created. It has since been the central location of all development of any IDG technologies. The SCV Clark and the SCV Lewis are currently docked in low orbit, awaiting launch.
Earth- Made almost uninhabitable after the Great War, Earth is home to little more than petty warlords and those not wealthy enough to transfer to other colonies. Those who can leave at the first chance they get, often joining the Marines to escape. The SSUC does not feel that the barren landscape is even worth policing and, as such, it is often regarded as the central hub of piracy.
Mars- The industrial center of the solar system, Mars was home to the poor and lower-class who toil in the factories. Mars was terraformed by Yakihama shortly after their rise to power and produced the majority of goods used across the solar system. Yakihama was the most prominent force here, and continues to provide the majority of firepower around Mars. After Arkemis hit, the entire planet was put on lockdown, with survivors, if there are any, being trapped on the surface.
Mercury- Supposedly uninhabited, there is little that is important about Mercury. There are rumors, however, that F.R.E.E makes its base here, deep underground. These are just rumors, of course....
Venus- Also supposedly uninhabited, Venus is secretly home to the Titan training facility. Here, Titans are raised and trained.
Jupiter and its moons, with the exception of Europa- The metaphorical center of the solar system, the city of New Olympus orbits around Jupiter, serving as the headquarters of the SSUC. Across the moons, the wealthy and heads of government make their homes. The USC holds the most sway here, though they are greatly rivaled by Yakihama.
New Olympus- A true man-made wonder, New Olympus is a Moon sized space station that serves as the metaphorical center of the solar system. Built in secret sometime within the last century, it houses millions comfortably and is seen as a utopia for those that are wealthy enough to live within. How the station was built and how it maintains its artificial gravity have never been revealed, though the technology has also been used to build large ships such as the Lewis and Clark.
Yes, its Requiem from Halo 4, First thing that popped into my mind when I thought "Grandiose Space City Planet Thing"
Europa- The USC has recently taken an interest in the ice-moon Europa, though why is anyone’s guess… Original guesses that the moon might contain life have long since been dismissed by the SSUC, and no official expeditions have ever revealed anything of interest besides the unusually warm ocean beneath the surface.
Saturn- Saturn's Rings make it a hive of tourist activity, especially for the wealthy. Orbital Resorts fill Saturn's upper atmostphere.

Rules/Things to Keep in Mind
1. Play your character, not the universe around them. That being said, if you have an idea, talk to me. It might could happen, maybe.
2. Be respectful towards other players, not that this is a problem here, but just to have it stated.
3. Make sure that characters have a reason to participate on the expedition. It is one-way.
4. As races become available to play, I will update this post.
5. The RP is story based. Its not linear, but its not open world either. I will largely let you do what you want, but some things are unavoidable.
6. At the start, weapons are only available to Marines/Titans. This will definitely change once the story kicks off.
6.5 If you want to be a Titan, run your character by me first. There might be some issues/things you'll need to know before you pull the trigger, so to speak.
7. Have fun.

:
Name:Fleet Admiral Jon Alexus
Age: 55
Sex: Male
Physical Characteristics(Height, Weight, Hair and Eye Color at least): Jon is an even 6', yet he weighs 400lbs due to the metal bracing within his body. As such, he can be physically intimidating to be around. His hair has long since gone gray, fitting since his eyes are also a stormy gray. He has a strong jaw-line, with several scars criss-crossing his face, but he refuses to detail how he got them, stating a blunt "That's classified" and leaving it at that. Mental/Personality Characteristics(Not required to include, but good to keep in mind): Despite his physical self, Jon can hardly be any more kind. There is not a soul that can recall him angry, and he is seen as a father figure to those he leads. Despite all this, Jon's time as a Titan required him to be able to kill mercilessly, and, should he be given the order, he will complete any task assigned to him without hesitation.
Occupation: Fleet Admiral over the SCV Clark and Lewis
Allegiance: SSUC
Background: One of the few to make it off Earth, Jon was volunteered by his parents for governmental training, and was accepted. He was taken to Venus for training. Early on, it was thought that he would be one of the many who would not survive the training. During an on surface training session when he was 15, Jon's small squad was taken by surprise by an acidic rainstorm. The acid quickly ate through their armor, and their trainer was incapacitated due to an unexpected reaction between the rain and her mechanical legs. She gave Jon the order to kill her and take his squad back to the airlock before their oxygen kits dissolved as well. With a single bullet, he followed his orders and led his squad back. The rest of his training was fairly uneventful, and Jon only chose the basic endoskeleton when he graduated, having had seen what could potentially go wrong. A career full of successful missions later, Jon was the only one left from his entire class. He was promoted to Fleet Admiral, and he and his new fleet were stationed at Pluto. Here, he witnessed the creation of the first IDG, and the loss of the marine squad that went through. Once word of Arkemis reach the facility, and the portable drive was complete, Jon volunteered to lead the expedition.
