What system should I get this for?

Post by Maxrebo »

PC isn't an option for me since I don't have a computer powerful enough to run and with it coming to consoles in June I trying to decide which version to get PS4 or Xbox One.I have both consoles, the issues comes from the fact the last gen most multiplatform games especially Bethesda games were better on 360 but this gen the PS4 version tends to be the superior of the console versions. But of course Bethesda and Zenimax could choose to favor the Xbox again this generation. So what's everyone thoughts on the matter. What Console Version do you recommend for ESO.

On the basis that none of us have seen actual game footage from the console versions, I'm inclined to say that recommendations at this point would be useless.

Think about things like which controller you find more comfortable, which has more buttons for customisation, that sort of thing.

Also, as far as I'm aware, Guilds will operate on a per-platform basis. So there will be one set of Guilds for PC/Mac, another set for PS4, and a third set for XBox One. If you want to make sure you are playing with a group of friends, you might need to make sure you all get the same version.

One of the issues that Bethesda (and many other developers and publishers, it wasn't just a Bethesda thing) had with the PS3 was its CPU architecture. The X360 used an x86_64 architecture, which is what most PCs use. It was easier for them to write patches and such for two platforms, with the PS3 the odd man out as it used a Cell architecture and its not exactly the most common in the world and the closest you generally see in wide use are the IBM POWER processors that are in use in some of their mainframes. The PS4 and Xbone both use x86_64, so its easier to do cross platform development and testing.

The operating systems, graphics hardware, and graphics libraries are the biggest difference between the platforms now, with the PS4 using a FreeBSD (my favorite operating system) derivative, an AMD graphics chip with OpenGL as the graphics library and the Xbone using a custom OS by Microsoft, an nVidia card, and DirectX 11. I haven't got either console yet, as I usually don't upgrade until a new Metal Gear or Final Fantasy game comes out, but I use AMD hardware pretty exclusively so I'll probably be getting a PS4. I don't play MMOs on consoles though so I can't really recommend either. There just shouldn't be as big of a disparity this generation due to the commonality of the hardware between all three platforms. The biggest difference is between DirectX and OpenGL.
