Best way through Skyrim's Main Quest?
So, what is the best way to combine Skyrim's Main Quest and the Civil War quest? I went along with Hadvar out of Helgen, getting the 'crash course' in smithing from Alvor, then went to Whiterun to inform the Jarl of the dragon. Basically the choice is then to follow the MQ by going back to Riverview and on to Bleak Falls Barrow, or to go to Solitude and sign up with the Imperial Legion - the Bleak Falls Barrow part will have to be done anyway eventually, in order to advance the Civil War quest... Or is it just as good to skip the Legion completely and go along with the MQ, staying neutral as long as possible?

I would suggest doing both, and for this character just do what he would do. Your choice actually impacts the story rather strongly

yeah, i agree, play both. I havent really paid much attention to which sections to do when to get the most out of the intertwining stories, but at least one part of the main quest has a lot more impact if you have invested in a civil war side beforehand

You can always make a second character to explore another story.AngryNord wrote:So, what is the best way to combine Skyrim's Main Quest and the Civil War quest? My first character in Oblivion was a Breton Healer. 'Healer', with a capital 'H'. I chose the pre-assigned class given in the game. Prancing along in sunlit fields looking for flowers and herbs, hoping to get rich by selling medicine and using magic as a primary defense.
My last character in Oblivion was an Imperial Harbinger. 'Harbinger', being not in the character-gen lexicon, means she was custom-designed to rip the intestines out of the first hunter she killed at Fort Grief and then use them to hang the other two hunters from the ceiling after she ambushed and shot them to death. And after she cut out all of their eyes, of course.
Goes without saying, she doesn't prance.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Honestly? I always prefered to stay neutral, season unending is fun too. Plus you can always mop up for either side after the main quest....

If you do both, you will have a lot more action; all at once! I wish I had not, but it was faster paced.
Do you have DB and DG too?

Staying neutral is the best way imo, but if you're gonna pick sides go with the Legion. I went with the Stormcloaks my first time through the Civil War and it left a really bad taste in my mouth for reasons I won't spoil.

I went legion first play through. It was fun. I just felt that the legion was better for my character since he was dragon born.
I think my next play through I will go storm cloak and make him an evil type of player. Storm cloaks remind me of storm troopers and they were the evil side.

King, Rebel, Observer. Auriel, Lorkhan, Sithis. Tiber, Arctus, Wultharth. Tullius, Ulfric, Dovahkiin.
This is one of your character's chances at divinity - don't waste it.

Re: Best way through Skyrim's Main Quest?
My advice is to at least do the main quest once without picking a side in the Civil War. This option will let you do the Season Unending quest in the main quest line just so you can see it and what it entails. If you did not like the Season Unending step then the next time you can do the Civil War first and avoid it all together. Or, as far as that goes reload a save from before you start Season Unending and go with the Civil War at that point.
Either way your going to have to do the Main quest up to Dragon Rising to get either of the Civil War quest lines to go past The Jagged Crown.

Re: Best way through Skyrim's Main Quest?
Season Unending and a certain Stormcloak quest involving Korvanjund, at one point, overlapped, and caused the entire main quest and Civil War not to be able to advance ahead. I dunno if they ever fixed it... But I've never played the two questlines at the same time since then.

Re: Best way through Skyrim's Main Quest?
Yeah Im not a big fan of the cival war it replaces to many Jarls on either side with people I cant stand such as in Riften, I also feel like a traitor to the jarl in Whiterun who trusted me even with my past, and rewarded me. Not to mention i think they ruined it when they short cutted the amount of missions. So season it is, but they tie so many quest together its hard to get anything dont wthout doing it all.

Decided to go through it as neutral for a start. We'll see later on.

Re: Best way through Skyrim's Main Quest?
i think that's a good choice, i am regretting choosing Ulfric, all that "true nords fight for me" is utter bs lol
the empire seems paradoxically to be the most nord friendly choice in the civil war, despite being a puppet to the Thalmor

Re: Best way through Skyrim's Main Quest?
Neither side is perfect if you listen to the comon NPC they both have good and bad people. So both sides are fine. Im just not big on some of the choices being pushed on us similar to some quest being rammed down your throat even when you dont want them.
