A series of questions.

Post by SLV_Gamer »

Hello, I am currently trying to write a fan-fiction novel and I put emphasis on trying as the only thing I've written before are essays for school. I will post any questions I have as a reply instead of making separate topics and clutter the forums. So right now my question is:

What would the local plants and animals be around the area of Southern Morrowind and Northern Black Marsh

Argonia is known to be populated with poisonous plants, perhaps somewhat akin to spore from the Fallout franchise, and vicious beasts ranging from fleshflies ("blood-colored, sand-grain-sized insects") and tree-dwelling lizards to wamasus and werecrocodiles (found in both southern Morrowind and Blackmarsh), feather serpents and hackwings ("giant birds with long, saw-like beaks nearly the size of the rest of their bodies") to werelions. There are also more mundane fauna, such as rats and other small reptiles. Further south you might find nagas ("big, black, covered with scales, and possessing small black eyes and huge mouths dripping with needle-like fangs") and swamp leviathans.

In terms of other flora, it is apparently densely vegetated with ferns (often poisonous), mangroves, and various other tropical plants. This image is particularly interesting.

Another interesting thing to note is that the primary method of transportation is by river-boat, particularly the deeper into the swamps you venture, but there also exists an 'Underground Express' whereby travellers are swallowed by giant rootworms and taken through the ground to their destination.

Most of the lore we have on Black Marsh comes from The Argonian Account, which is actually a fairly interesting read. Might be worth checking out.

It might also be worth checking out the Redguard comic, which takes place in the region (download link in the article).

Wait until April to do your fan fiction. We know a lot about vegetation on Vvardenfell, but little about the Deshaan Plains of southern Morrowind. We'll certainly know more after ESO is released. In the meantime, read the Infernal City. It has a lot of tidbits about Black Marsh.
