why is Farengar's map without pins?

Post by clif9711 »

Normally, when a map of Skyrim is present, it has pins indicating the holdings of the Empire and the Stormcloaks, but the one in Farengar's "office" is empty. Maybe it's because he doesn't like the war (so he says) and has taken them all off in a fit of pacifism?

Because he is not keeping track of forts and camps. Instead, he uses it for tracking dragons(without any success) due to him being interested in them. And probably uses it for other magic related research.

I don't think we can read the lack of markers as a passive, or passive-aggressive, act of opposition to the war, although Farengar certainly doesn't view the conflict favourably. As dovah said, it's more that he has no reason to actively follow the war.

Essentially, we have to assume that there were never any markers on the map to begin with, based on the evidence we have access to. For all we know, Farengar might not even have access tot he military intelligence necessary to plot the locations of the various forts across Skyrim, let alone who controlled them.

There's a strategic map just upstairs in Dragonsreach. But I agree, he hasn't got markers on his own map because he doesn't care.

The war does affect everyone in the country to some extent. But yeah, it isn't a map being used for the war rather it is just a map. I got a map for the children's bedroom in Solitude and it only has Solitude on it, probably just as a "You are here."
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?
