Sliders! There will be lots of time spent with those, oh yes indeed!

Re: Character creation
It looks really great! The Khajiit in particular look fantastic. My first character's gotta be an Altmer, but my second's probably going to be Khajiit, I'm saying that right now.
So many details, but what I really am looking forward to is the hair. Skyrim felt so limited in that regard - both with styles (couldn't even change the length like you could in Oblivion) and with color. It also looks like you can choose accessories, perhaps? I hope there's the opportunity to change hair and accessories, and that it won't cost too much.
I guess my one complaint is when they were using the triangle-shaped slider for the female overall shape, there was hardly any variation at all, compared to the male one. Sure, you can edit some of that individually - they were showing shoulder width and arm thickness and such - but we women are all shapes and sizes too!

Re: Character creation
From first-hand experience, I did not find the character creation menu very appealing in the amount of options or its design. Any Dunmer that I made looked laughably identical to the starter character.
It reminds me most of Oblivion's system, but almost as if they tried to simplify it? I'm not quite sure, really, but it just felt like there was a pretty big lack of creative control and the options didn't make much sense.

Re: Character creation
I felt that ESO's character-creation controls left plenty of room for creativity. The drag-and-drop pyramid is pretty common in most online games, but you're afforded a lot of customization in each area. Given, the texturing isn't quite as detailed as Skyrim, it's still comparable in customization options; not including the height adjustment and the chub (if your character has trouble mitigating their sweetroll intake).
Furthermore, I really like what they've done with the Argonians. They look fantastic.

Re: Character creation
This looks like a system that marries simplicity and variety, enough so that you have your freedoms without spending three hours on creation. I love having a character that's my own, but I really find that sucking so much time out of the process tends to get me angsty, to the point where I just rush through so I can play the game anyway.
I'm looking forward to this. It's not very complex, and perhaps not as detailed as some, but I think the variety available will speak to people who are creative.

Re: Character creation
I'm not a huge fan, partially because my favorite race (Khajiit) really only seem to have one look, lion (Which is still a step above oblivion's)
The triangle system seems like it needs tweaking, some races like argonian have a dramatic enough changes for their faces but others like the bosmer only seem like slight variation on slightly softer details or minimal broadness in features.
The additional features like tattoos, hair, etc. seem nice and I like that you can make an Altmer that doesn't scream aristocrat

Re: Character creation
The character creator looks much better than I thought it would. And love that finally we can adjust height and weight, I'm pretty sure this a first for the series. And the Argonians look great.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I'm quite enthusiastic about the character creator, I feared that it would be worse than that.Argonanza wrote:Argonians can have fins on their head again. I am pleased.

Re: Character creation
I made an Argonian, and she looked OK. OTOH it does seem to be the case that the range of options is less than meets the eye. Plenty of sliders, which is good, but I was unable to easily explore parameter space to get a unique look.Tsapoliton wrote:I was thinking exactly the same thing. Dragon's Dogma and some others have a number of presets, which you then tweak. That seems to pretty easy way to give the player variety, yet keep the number of base models manageable.

Re: Character creation
I think the system looks good enough. No character creation system can really be perfect, but if you can now adjust height and weight, that's a plus in my book. Now I kind of want to make a dude who looks a little silly (but not too silly), and have him be really badass. I'd get a kick out of that.
Start the groove.
Re: Character creation
Truly fantastic. I can make my character fat or tall! I hope the next single player ES game has this too!

Re: Character creation
It's interesting how they changed the options based on race. So for nords you have certain tatoos, beards and hair styles that other races don't have, same goes for Khajit and Argonians which tent to be further away from the humanoid looks of the other races. The Dunmer have house sigil tatoos as an option and all. Normally MMOs normalize their character cration in the sense that all races have similar opinions with only tiny variation (look at SWTOR) but they didn't go the lazy route with ESO, it has really a lot of variety amongst the races, and with the amount of individual sliders every character will be truely unique!
Re: Character creation
I actually like the triangle slider choice. No idea how it will all work out but the video looks very promising!!
