Dawnguard or Vampires?
Which one did you join on your main character and why?

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
Dawnguard. She had only shaken free of the lures of Lycanthropy recently. She knew far too much about what she would become if she accepted that gift, and wanted no part of it.
Besides, she'd set out to stop the attacks, and becoming part of them did not exactly seem to be the right way to go about that.

The funny thing is they stop completely after vampire side, yet don't completely stop after dawnguard side...Elenath wrote:

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
Vampires. I don't want to commit genocide, vampires can be good people as evidenced by Serena and myself. I'm not going to kill somebody just for being a vampire. Also the dawnguard has ties to the vigilents, an organisation I personally detest. Vampires don't have to kill people. I instead decided to change things from the inside. Also being a vampire means immortality unless something kills you, that's always a plus.
So we have come to solve every squabble in the village personally?

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
I often like to go with the dawnguard (shiny weapons I put on walls is a plus, husky and troll companions anther)
but I don't think I'd ever seen vampire attacks on my vampire save.... you know, besides my own attacks on town.

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
Two of my three mains join the Volkihar; they were Vampires to begin with, so it makes no sense for them to stick with the Dawnguard.
Besides, one wants total control. She wants power and the best way to gain that is through her influence in the Volkihar.
The other thinks Isran is a jerk and doesn't care about being a Vampire either way, though she is rather fond of the idea of immortality. She's crazy, so... Meh.
The third joined the Dawnguard. She's a Werewolf and did not want to give that up. The Dawnguard provided the best chance of that; they didn't know what she was, and she got to kill Vampires. She doesn't care for most of the Dawnguard weapons, except for the Crossbow (though she typically uses a bow anyway). This one is the only Dawnguard character. All others join the Vampires.

Dawnguard... every time.
I had every intention of trying the Vampire side, but Lord Harkon revealing his...umm..gift? made me immediately decide against it. Really Harkon? your "gift" is pale green skin, raggedy chicken bone wings, and you float?

Vampire, just because I liked the perk tree better.
I'll probably join the Dawnguard this playthru tho, just to see what the story is like.

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
I joined up with the Dawnguard. i just prefer being a Vampire Hunter to a Vampire, plus i prefer the way the story plays out when you join the Dawnguard, and i really like the characters in the Dawnguard, some of the few NPCs i actually liked in Skyrim. oh and i like the sun, that could have had something to do with it.
My little brother joined up with the Volkihar.

Dawnguard. I dislike how the vampires just randomly attack innocent people in towns. Maybe I want to accept quests from townsfolk, or sell things at them! If I wanted them dead I would do it myself!

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
I choose the vampires. I really do not like the sun at all. I hate the feeling of heat on my skin it bothers me. I do not mind it during fall though.
By the way does anybody know where I can buy crossbow bolts as a vampire?

You can't buy or craft them, the only way to get bolts as a vampire is by killing Dawnguard members.

You could also find Dwarven Bolts from Dwarven Sphere Automaton.adamly wrote:By the way does anybody know where I can buy crossbow bolts as a vampire?
Of all my playthrough I always choose Dawnguard. Sure Isran is a pain sometimes but most of the other NPCs are likeable fellows.

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
I haven't joined either yet with my main but the plan is to have him join the Dawnguard.
I've got a secondary character I'll try out the Vampires with.

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
Isran is great. I wish he could be a housecarl, it would be like having Mr. T as your bodyguard.
My 3 characters all went Dawnguard for their own reasons, one of them is a werewolf and she prefers that.

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
I picked vampire because it is more fun to fly around and suck their life away. I mean come on. Vampires just are more unique than lame boring seen-it-before wolves. Then again, I do like crossbows a lot. Nah. Vamps are cooler.

Dawnguard.
I never play as werewolves or vampires, so that was an easy choice.

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
A lot of it depends on the character. One of my current characters is with the Dawnguard now, and the other two will likely be vampires. I've got three other characters, in the wings, with the same 2:1 Vampire-to-Dawnguard ratio. So while I like both sides for different reasons, I voted Vampires. Their side seems more dynamic to me, and I'm often drawn to dark things in fantasy (to an extent).

The Dawnguard have nothing to do with Wolves or Werewolves, what do you mean?

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
I'll let those three of my five main characters who have started the DG questline at all speak for themselves.
Marilyn, Bosmer thief/assassin: "Is that a serious question? I'm a vampire, who do you think I'd join? An organisation of vampire hunters who let a starved vampire join without seeing what I was deserved no better than to be wiped out. Harkon, on the other hand, although I detested his personality, showed me the door to a whole new world. Not that I trusted him, mind you; I had learned the lessons Mercer and Astrid taught me, so I knew what to expect. I actually cured myself and let Serana turn me again before the final confronation with him so I wouldn't owe anything to the man I was going to kill. Anyway, the Volkihar are much better off with me in charge."
Helgrim, Bosmer ranger/shaman: "Vampires are vile creatures, and I kill them whenever I can. Serana seemed different to me, I think deep inside she's tormented by what she is; but I helped her return to her father's castle, since that was apparently what she wanted and I believe in giving people what they really want (and be it death). Harkon's offer, however, had no appeal for me - Hircine has already granted me a power that suits my nature infinitely better. As for the Dawnguard, I doubt Isran would be quite as welcoming if he knew about my ties to Hircine and Namira (and I'm sure he wouldn't be amused if he knew what really happened at the Hall of Vigilance; those vampires only picked the meat off my leftovers). No, let them fight their fight, and I'll fight mine."
Comes-Up-Last, Argonian bandit/thief/assassin: "You kidding? There's hardly a town left in Skyrim that hasn't been attacked by those blood-sucking monsters, and you can hardly set foot outside Riften these days without being assaulted. I'm a married lizard, and Shahvee and me are planning to have hatchlings. I want my family to be safe from those attacks and raise my kids in peace without the constant fear that some bat-faced freak might kill or, Hist forbid!, turn them. As for the Dawnguard, well, I've never been one for the military - obeying orders, wearing uniform and all that nonsense- , but they seem remarkably relaxed and sell some damn good weapons, so I guess they're alright; and I reckon there'll be some good loot in Castle Volkihar when the fight is over."

Re: Dawnguard or Vampires?
I ended up playing both sides, saving before the initial choice. I wanted the full experience>_> though in the end I sticked with Dawnguard.
I've generally always been a good guy, or at least morally. DB has always been the only guild that makes me hesitate>_>
Still Dawnguard had way more perks and seemed more fitting. The only thing I disliked is that I couldn't get the castle as a home>_> seems to me the order would guard the place too.
Anyways, I somehow wished there was a more happy ending>_> at least I don't have to worry about those around me ready to stab me in the back for the sake of power<_<
Still, gotta love Serana^_^
