How is this possible...

Post by Frost Mage »

I consider myself a HUGE TES nerd just like most people on this forum, but I've actually only put in around 350 hours into Skyrim. Granted I play lots of other games, but Skyrim is not just a game to me, it's a story, it's way more than a game. And thus it's not something that I can just pick up and play at any time, so I usually don't. I was wondering, how are some people able to have put more than 300 hours in *1 character*? It just kind of baffles me.

Is Skyrim the only game you play? :P Or something else?

I've only logged 300 hours in Skyrim, whereas with Oblivion it was something ridiculous like ~5,000. Maybe Skyrim hasn't been out long enough, but I don't find it to have as much replayability.

The ES is the exclusive RPG for a lot of fans of the series. To me it is the only medium of its kind that delivers a tabletop experience, but in a single player cRPG format. Anything less just doesn't it cut it for RPing. I personally only play the ES and a select group of strategy games. That's how I can put almost over 2500 hours into Skyrim and have 85 builds. But compared to previous games, that's nothing.

1.) Turn console "On".
2.) Insert Skyrim game disc.
3.) Load and begin game.
4.) Bring up "Pause" menu.
5.) Put controller down, walk away, live real life.
6.) In a mere two weeks you'll have racked up 336 hours of "game time".

Honestly, the game is 15 months old. Some high game hours shouldn't be surprising at this point.

I agree. My Oblivion game had thousands of hours - and I could easily put in thousands more.

I don't think I've yet reached 100 hours on Skyrim. Does that make me not a TES fan? :P

I have ~50 characters at least 100 hours each in SKyrim 300 in my latest.
Had about the same in Oblivion (not as much fun IMO)
Had about 2x that in Morrowind, I would lose entire weeks in that game...seriously
I play BF3 (competitive with friends), Halo4 Borderlands2 Just dance 4 with the girlfriend
Play recreational LAX and play baseball in the summer
Attend CU as a chemistry major...

I think the emphasis here was on the high number of game play hours in a single character, not just in the game itself, or maybe I'm reading it wrong. Personally I have less than 200 hours in Skyrim, roughly 150 on my main character (the original) and 20-30 on maybe 3 more characters. It took me about 110 hours of playing to beat the MQ, and that included me doing the Companions as well as Stormcloak civil war, as well as a hell of a lot of exploration. I could certainly see myself getting another 50 hours easily with this character as it stands now, and depending on DLC, many more.

It seems to come down to pacing. I know enough that I could have beaten the MQ in roughly half the time, but I wanted to experience the world, and so I racked up time playing without ever really doing quests. I've not touched the College, or Thieves Guild, or DB with that character, nor has he spent time dealing with the Dawnguard/Vampires. It's based on playstyles. I let this character live the world, so he's got more time in it. Other characters have simply been experiments and so I've rushed through or played a more concise style.

Well, I've put about 400 hours into my character. She's the only one I've played though - I never even started a second character even to experiment with. Skyrim was my first ES game, so I didn't have any sort of idea what character I wanted or anything - I didn't design my character to follow a specific personality or anything. I simply wanted to play the game and experience everything I could with one character, thinking that as college gets busier I'd have almost no time to play, so it would be easier to just go through the quests on an already strong character. At this point, with everything except Dragonborn completed, I've grown a huge attachment to my character and I don't want to leave her just yet. I want to finish completing everything that Dragonborn added and level up all her skills to 100 (won't be long now), and then I'll really feel that her story's complete. Only after that will I start another character.

Though maybe before I start a second Skyrim character, I'll play Oblivion and Morrowind some more. I've only got about 20 hrs of Oblivion so far and basically bought Morrowind when it was on sale and haven't done anything beyond creating my character. Skyrim's really the only game I've played for the last 9 months (apart from those 20 hrs of Oblivion). I wanted to do another Portal/Portal 2 runthrough during this winter break; that only takes maybe two days, but when I started Portal, I got a really strong urge to go back into Skyrim, so I did. xD
Dohvakiin2012 wrote:Its my morning ritual, even before my daily Yoga practice. Bad....I know.
Heh, for me, it's my nighttime ritual. Barring homework or other things, I usually play an hour or so before bed every night. Probably part of the reason the only dreams I've had in the last few months have been Elder Scrolls dreams. xD

I've put at least 600 hours now over the various Jennifere's. The first got to level 81 and 300 hours (Oghma'd Pickpocket and lockpicking on Principle though) when the xbox died I started her again and Oghma'd her from level 15 to 81 to get her back up to strength just in time for Dragonborn DLC, however the enjoyment was gone, and I started her again. A data transfer cable got the original Jennifere back, but then corrupted save file took her away, and she was restarted again.

I've had real trouble playing her this time - I have literally done everything there is I want to do with her over her 6 iterations, and the new Jenn is only Level 21 at 27 hours according to her save file. This despite the desire to fall in love with her anew...

None of the other character's come close to her in hours played though.

Pretty much me too. I'm not much in to other games but Skyrim, lol. . I only have ~50 hours in Skyrim right now with three characters but I only got the PC version two months ago.

Other games don't compare. Then again, I was never a big gamer besides Nintendo...until the day I watched my husband play the opening scene of Skyrim and there came Alduin as his big bad self. That day changed my life. Someday soon I'll investigate Oblivion. Although Skyrim's graphics have spoiled me rotten.

Haha this is basically the same for me I have not played anything other than TES games(most of it being Skyrim) in the past half of a year.(besides one play through of Halo 4)

So basically Skyrim is the only game I play. :p

Once you've played enough CoD games to realize that they are the same exact thing with slightly different skins, its easy.

I'm a guy who started on NES, and have played many games over the years. I loved Street Fighter 2 back in the day, but when I bought the re-release for xbox2 maybe 4 years ago, I played it for about 5 hours at the most.

Come up with some geography based games like mario or mega man and they might be worth playing.

But out of what has come out over the last 5 years, only fallout and ES are worth playing in my mind.

Well, up until about a month before DB was supposed to be released, I had been working on an insanity playthrough of ME3 for the achievement. Fun times (not). I'll go back to that when I'm feeling either particularly brave or particularly masochistic... :| As it stands, I have a total of 750 hours put into Skyrim, with Anika being my most played character (135 hours). The rest is just various characters that have since been deleted and such. Fae is my longest lived after Anika, and she's only sitting at about 45 hours.

I don't think I've played all that many games since I first got Skyrim. My most played game is Skyrim (over 1600 hours), with somewhere over 100 hours in Oblivion and Morrowind. And I still haven't finished my two Oblivion and Morrowind characters. I'd actually play Oblivion more, but it's got a habit of crashing. A lot. Morrowind is good for a game its age; barely crashes at all.

Before I got any Elder Scrolls games, things were quite different. I've probably put thousands of hours each into the Black and White games since they came out (2001 for the first and 2006 for the second). Maybe a few hundred into the old Zoo Tycoon games. Another hundred or so into Spore.
24 or so hours into Bejeweled 3. 15 hours into Sid Meier's Civilization V. 79 hours in the Creation Kit for Skyrim.

Yeah. I just have nothing better to do with my time currently.

i have maybe 2000 in these games total lol

i played Skyrim for 200+ hours but tbh haven't got into it like i did oblivion or morrowind. I am not that concerned about this, i have been big into BF3 and console minecraft and there are loads of other games i play. I expect Skyrim will suck me back over the next few months. I think the dlc will re ignite my adventuring - TES is always a very slow burn with me lol

too many good games out there, and RL has changed my time schedules so i dont have the long evenings of RPing i used to have

i think the most is spent on a character was around the 300 hour mark, and i plan to get my dunmer hero to 81st level so lots left to do

Hehe. I have about 300 hours into my main Oblivion profile, and another few hundred assorted hours on other characters. I probably have, more or less, a hundred or two into Morrowind, and Skyrim... I have to have close to 500-600 hours into total at this point.

I tend to have a lot of profiles rather than profiles I have a lot of time into in Skyrim, though, as a rule.

Yeah I've spent a combined ~8k hours on TES games, I've played Morrowind GoTY, Oblivion GoTY, and Skyrim with Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn. I don't know how the hours rack up that fast but they do. But if you do the math, my 2500 hours on Skyrim in a year is actually only about 4 hours a day 7 days a week.
