How Popular Are You?
List the number of friends you have, how many of those are close friends, how generally well-like you perceive yourself to be in your various stable social situations, and, just to make things interesting, which of the UESP forum members you like the most.
The sharpest word may be uttered with the softest tongue.

Re: How Popular Are You?
Well for me, I'm kind of an introvert. I have a close circle of really good friends. I think people perceive me as the quiet one who doesn't say anything, but i think my friends would say different. As for being well liked, i don't think people really have an opinion of me.
As for the amount of friends thing, I'd say somewhere along the lines of about 7 or 8 close friends, then maybe like, 10 that i talk to once in a while.
I really freak when in crowds. As for UESP, the main people i talk to are Weasel and Cardbird. But i sometimes chat with people like Avron, Musicman, Blackfire, and Nevastar.

Re: How Popular Are You?
I haven't had any friends for over 30 years. At best I'm antisocial. I don't see any reason to discuss my feelings (if I have any) for other members.

Regardless of the fact that free speech encompasses the lack thereof, this is an incredibly poor argument. Half of this forum doesn't have any reason for being, and yet it is.Stormborn wrote:I don't see any reason to discuss my feelings (if I have any) for other members.

Re: How Popular Are You?
I have two friends IRL. I consider them both very close friends. Which should make it unsurprising that I'll say that I'm not all that well-liked. I'm pretty shy, and people trying to talk to me beyond small-talk (which, btw, took me a good long while to figure out) freak me out. People would notice my absence from the places where I interact with people (oh hell, who am I kidding? I only interact with people here, and at work), and I'd like to think that I'd be missed here, but at work, I'd quickly be forgotten.
As for the forum members, I like everyone I interact with regularly (this means if I talk to you in chat, if I reply to things you say in positive ways, and if I've ever exchanged more than a single PM with you), that's why I interact with them.

Re: How Popular Are You?
I'm quite socially awkward and anti-social so not many. I have a twin who I usually do things with and a boyfriend who likes me for who I am. I guess with my age group, I should want to go to clubs and drink as such but I never shown an interest so I lost contact with most of my real life friends. I talk to a fair amount of people online and that's fine with me.
I prefer to be by myself in most cases and most people don't get that I think.

Oh, Frosty.
I have a group of about three extremely close friends, about a dozen other friends, but I am more or less universally well liked. I'm more introverted than otherwise, but I have no issues with social situations.
On the forum, I have a fairly large group of friends, thanks largely to the beloved phenomenon that is RPing.
Mars, Arch-Mage Matt, Avron the S'wit, Deandra, Frost Mage, Gideon Dragontongue, Imp, JVElEven, Knight Captain Kerr, Leyyuce, Musicman247, Per, POMC S117, Powerflex, The-Shadow-One, unokitsune, according to my friend;s list with the people I really don't talk to much edited out.

Re: How Popular Are You?
I don't think I'm very popular.
People are generally fond of me once they get to know me, but most people I know have told me that they either found me unapproachable or unlikeable before they actually got to know me better. And that's my problem:
I don't make friends easily. I can't approach anyone. All the friends I've made (more or less), I made either through them approaching me first, or by being exposed to more people by others. I've always relied on things to just...happen.
Now that I've moved to a new town, I realized how bad that is. I don't have any friends whatsoever irl right now, except for my lifelong best friend. But he's more like a brother to me, in the sense that he's been my friend since we were both babies. We don't talk very often anymore because we live in different places now, but I don't think we'll ever go out of contact. Other than that, my entire social life is taking place on the internet. I don't mind that, but thinking about how hard it would be to actually meet any of my friends makes me sad.
I'd say I have five (not counting the irl one) friends right now, two of which I'd consider closer than the rest (I love ya all the same <3).

Re: How Popular Are You?
I have a hard time making friends because I'm so damn shy.
But I have a small circle of close friends and 2 best friends. Neither of them live here but I'll never go out of contact with them and they feel more like sisters to me.

It is not an argument at all. I have no intention of discussing how I feel about members publicly or privately. If anyone wants to know how I feel about them they can always pm me.Wolf wrote:Regardless of the fact that free speech encompasses the lack thereof, this is an incredibly poor argument. Re: How Popular Are You?
I have about 5 or 6 really close friends, 2 of which I would call brothers in a sense.
Somewhere between 10 and 20 other friends, that I don't really talk to often, but still hang out with now and then.
On the forums, my closest friends are probably Musicman, Derp and ZeRoc. Maybe Avron too.
I like alot of people on here though, so just cos I didn't name you doesn't mean I dont consider you a friend. Those were just the ones I talk to regularly.
I wouldn't have a clue what most people think of me, I tend to always be the joker in a group, so it's entirely possible that on first impressions people think I'm either immature, or just plain offensive. I have no problem with meeting new people, or being the center of attention. But then, I kind of need those attributes in my line of work. I get on well with almost anybody, unless they are a total bigot who believes they know everything about everything.

I should add:
I can't be in large groups. Being in a place with many people makes me feel sad and alone. Unless it's a party.

Re: How Popular Are You?
Disclaimer: Zomigod, Believe, I love your avatar.
I'm assuming this is a psychology experiment of some type, since I can't figure out for the life of me what the "number of friends" one has to do with popularity. It's sort of the argument you get on social networking sites: you can have a ton of so-called friends, but the number of them you interact with on a daily basis is very likely an extremely small percentage. (And on a daily basis, I mean, you see them enough and hang out with them enough and share enough intimate details with them that they are actually, you know, friends.)
Popularity is a weird concept anyway. Lots of people talk to me, including strangers. Does this make me popular? No. I think it has more to do with the fact that I am friendly, however. So, I'm not popular. I'm just friendly. I am an extrovert and I have no problem talking to strangers. It's certainly got me into trouble more than once, too... The world isn't really well equipped for friendly people.
I have lots of acquaintances, particularly at school, that I will ride the subway home with or get lunch, whatever it is. I have a few (keyword: few) close friends that I could gather in my living room from my undergraduate days, with whom I still keep in touch and who are my real, close friends, in that we share our hopes and dreams with each other over dinner. I also have some close friends I've developed from hanging out on the forums and with whom I really feel a deep connection and friendship with, even if we've never physically met. Some people might think that very odd, but I think friendship has evolved in the globalized and time-and-space compressed world. Bonds are bonds.
In regards to UESP, you guys know I'll talk to all of you and I enjoy all of it.
I like you all the same...except for the ones I don't.

Well... I would say I have three close friends, then I have my normal friends, then I have quite a few people that I can talk to but they aren't necessarily friends.

Re: How Popular Are You?
I have 2 Close friends .... and thats it
im not a very popular person, i sit Quietly and follow the rules, apparently that isnt very appealing
in school , i know that people make fun of me behind my back, but i dont care, because i also know they are scared of me
cause i have done some painful stuff to their friends ( i once stabbed a guy in the neck with a pen
)
i always hang about with these 2 guys i know , they are my only friends really ... i also get along well enough with my little brother ... but the rest of my family doesnt really like me very much
on UESP, i dont really know anyone, i have been here a fairly reasonable amount of time .. but i dont really get along with lots of the people here , i dont think they like my sense of Humour
and thats about it

Re: How Popular Are You?
Mad stuff
erm....friends.....Where I am from I have a couple of friends, not best or close friends like but they are what they are. I was very quiet in school and afterwards, But 6 years in the military changed that and now I can start and hold a conversation with pretty much anyone.
Where I live now I wouldn't say that I have any friends. I have my gf and her family but I don't think that thats what is being discussed here? I have a local pub that I go to and I meet people there and have a laugh but I wouldn't call them friends per-say, Just folk from the pub. But a lack of "friends" that I see daily and talk on the phone etc doesn't bother me becaue I'm pretty comfortable in myself and thats all that counts really isn't it?
*edit* Obviously I have not included my military friends in this. It's a different type of friendship that I am sure other service people understand and is hard to describe to non service ppl
*Edited Edit* I forgot the last bit! The only people I've really had any contact with have been Pilaf and Brad and that was an argument
So...does that count?

Re: How Popular Are You?
caring about people is a frustrating, confusing nightmare.
I have a friend I've known for a long time, I talk to him sometimes.
It's even worse on the internet, because I can't tell even more what's happening.
Though, I have no issue talking to people. I can hold a conversation with anyone, and everyone I've met ends up liking me, you know, because of my charisma.
But Friends? I dunno.

I normally only add Facebook friends who I would genuinely say I'm friendly with in real life so... 102 of them, apparently. For actual close friends I'd say I have about a dozen.

Re: How Popular Are You?
IRL? Not very. I won't go out of my way to interact with others, but I'll give anyone the time of day if they try to talk to me (most times <_<). I don't have any close friends that I can tell anything to, but sure, I have some friends.
On the Internet? I like to think it's a completely different story. I've way more Internet friends than IRL friends, and two very close friends at that (you know who you are). I have no idea why this is, but I'm happy with it, to be honest. Unfortunately I'd have a pretty hard time ever meeting up with any of them, which is a sobering thought, but I think I can enjoy their company OTI just as much as I could IRL, so I'm pretty content with the way things are for now.
