OK. here we go again. PS3 player on the 5th time through the game, and I've never gotten all 24 Stones of Barenziah. I know all 24 locations by heart. I've been back to them repeatedly. This time through, I have spent a good 3 days going back and double checking every location. I have NOT started the Dark Brotherhood quest, but that only offers 1 more stone. I've got 22 by game count.
I have even gone back to the jails to see if one might have been taken and put in an evidence chest. There were only 2 quests where you are stripped of everything, and I've rechecked those locations, both where they started and where you recovered you stuff, no dice.
I did a search on the form and found several similar questions. Each time they were referred to the Wiki but some threads end right where this one begins.
So, any other PS3 players, (assuming any are left), solved this frustration? I don't know where the count dropped, but I am as sure as I can be that I have picked up 23 stones and have only 22 to show for it.

You didnt pawn any away, did you? I did that on the PC by mistake and then the merchant no longer had it in his inventory.

Re: Yet Another Lost Stone!
I didn't even know you could do that with quest items. But no, didn't pawn, she'll, or otherwise dispose of one that I know of.
Returned to all 23 sites last night, ( which you can now do with the embassy update), no stones found and still 22 in the inventory.
I'll give up on another quest if I have to but still want to know what happened to 23?

Re: Yet Another Lost Stone!
Do the Stones "stack" in your inventory, or do they show up 22 times as individual items? If the latter is happening, it might be just a large-list inventory display thing, where things might not be shown on-screen, but are still properly in your inventory.

Re: Yet Another Lost Stone!
Most are stacked this time through. The same thing happened the last couple of replays and the number stacked didn't seem to make a difference.
Good idea though. Thanks.

This is straight from the UESPwiki;
"Bugs
Once you've learned that these Unusual Gems are actually Stones of Barenziah, they will no longer stack in your inventory."
And check this link in case anything seems amiss.

Yes, read the wiki. You do not have to even actually have the stones in you inventory. If you are fast enough pushing the Activate button, the quest progress might register it as taking two or even three stones, even if you inventory only gets one more. On my current game the quest progress says I have 21 stones, but my actual inventory has only got 16 stones, of which two are stacked.
According to the wiki this exploit is confirmed on all platforms, and the count in the quest progress is what determines if you get enough stones to satisfy the quest for next stage, not how many stones you have in inventory.

The embassy one moves to the cave you escape out of, did you check there?
