It may be less than obvious but this is actually already being discussed in two other threads. See the PS3 users poll and the angry about dawnguard thread.

Re: How true is this?
I just wish they'd step up and publicly confirm what the issues are with delivering for the PS3.
In the realm of pure speculation, I'd say that Sony's system of split RAM is the fundamental culprit. Skyrim by itself seems to push the RAM near to its limits. You can understand how Skyrim + DLC would tax the system even more.
Is there a solution? There are two obvious ones, neither of which is particularly tasty. First, the DLC could be dumbed-down so as not to stress the RAM as much, but how do you do that and still make the DLC worth having? Second, (and this is the real fix), Sony needs to redesign the PS3 so it isn't hobbled by these built-in limitations.

Re: How true is this?
The PS3 is easy for Sony developers. But, since Elder Scrolls games are usually based on PC and Xbox, when they get to PS3 they are encountered with many problems.
Nothing is true, everything is permitted.

What? That's like saying a Cadillac is based on Ferrari and Hyundai engineering, which is why Ford technology gives them a problem.

Re: How true is this?
No I actually think DikaSmashu has the right idea. Because Bethesda develops for 360 and PC first then moves to PS3, I think they encounter problems. If a game is first developed for the PS3 the developers would not have as much problems as they would if the started on the 360. I think it's less about being hard to program for and more about how different it is. And in smaller games this dosen't make a big difference, but considering Skyrim's size it obviously has a bigger impact.

More like how a European automaker's idea of a large-displacement motor is to build a small-bore V12, while the American solution is a big-bore V8.Evil-i wrote:What? That's like saying a Cadillac is based on Ferrari and Hyundai engineering, which is why Ford technology gives them a problem.

Re: How true is this?
I don't see how the order of development can have an effect. It's not like you're trying to sledgehammer a pre-existing 360 game into a PS3 and expect it to work. When you engineer a PC game for the PC market, you engineer it for PCs. When you design the 360 version of the same game, you write the code so the 360 can read it. When you cater to the PS3 market, you re-engineer to suit the PS3. Which one you decide to do first makes no difference. Just because you eat breakfast before lunch, that doesn't mean you must have bacon and eggs with your soup. They're two independent and unrelated meals, what you have at one mealtime has no effect on the other. So it is when engineering a game across multiple platforms.Mr.Argonian wrote:No I actually think DikaSmashu has the right idea. The real culprit here is Sony's engineering decision to handle the PS3's RAM in the manner that they have. The resulting processing limitation is unforeseen and unintended, but it's proving to be a millstone around gamers' necks. There's no sense at all in blaming Bethesda for Sony's poor decision. I'm sure Bethesda is practically turning their techs inside-out in efforts to work around the RAM limitations, but even the best palliative engineering can't overcome hard limits.

Re: How true is this?
Well this sucks. I bought Skyrim for the PS3 because my computer is incapable of running it anymore. Actually, having a console to play Skyrim on was the only reason I got my PS3 back in March.

Re: How true is this?
Curious. You could probably get an upgraded graphics card or ram chips or whatever upgrades were needed for less than a ps3. As to rest of this thread this is so weird isn't it? I thought the ps3 had higher stats than xbox.cypruss11 wrote:Well this sucks. I bought Skyrim for the PS3 because my computer is incapable of running it anymore. Re: How true is this?
@ Redguard,
I know what you mean, it was often said that the PS3 was more powerfull, but the way to adress the full "powerfullness" is a bit "Out of the Box".
Also what some people said, yeah probably if Skyrim was delevoped first on the PS3 it would work better with the system, but then we would maybe have performance problems with Xbox and PC.
So the real question is why Sony must have made such a unconventional approach for the hardware of the PS3 which is really a barrier for multi plattform titles. They could have expected such situations, and the engineers must have seen this problem during invention of the console.

Re: How true is this?
If they can't fix it in a couple of weeks they should release the current version as a private beta to Ps3 users , like the Xbox one, to see how many people have problems with it. If there are only a few problems they can release it with a warning that it may not work, so people who really want it regardless can get it if they so choose.

Re: How true is this?
Evil-I, you do give me faith. I read the PS3 users thread and was genuinely getting angry at the flaming of Bethesda for the faults of the PS3 itself. It is a case of constraints placed on Skyrim by the PS3. It's not like they are just slacking off and thought "Two out of three is good enough".
I hope they will find a workaround for the unfortunate PS3 users, but at the moment, it's looking bleak.
