Opinions On Altmer

So we have these tall yellow skinned mer who have a inborn mana pool and life-spans that could last from the mid First Era to the current day and age of 4E 201. They beleive their blood is "Closest to the gods" and yet everyone on this wiki has probably one-hit A altmer. In my opinion their stuck up and snooty,well most of them anyways. The Altmer are a intresting race but I don't understand why there so different biologically compared to other Mer and Men. Can someone shed more light on why they are so different? Is it beacuse their race Is one of the oldest? Or are they really the closest to the gods, and if they are, which gods do they mean? The aedra? The Deadra? Or both?

First thing first, I absolutely abhor the Altmer.

The tag 'High Elf', means 'proud', or 'snobbish'. I would think it means the latter, due to the fact the Imperials gave it to them.

The Altmers find themselves to be much more socially progressive than all the other races.
Some motives they have to be god like are:
They are the most intellectual race.
They are the most accomplished in magic.
They are very resilient to disease.
They are the lengthiest living race.
They are naturally protected from paralysis.
They also are supposed to have the Psijics to shelter them through dangerous periods.

I don't know much about the Dawn Era (the one that started everything, if I'm not wrong) but the Altmer were related to the Aedra. Not really the Altmer but Aldmer, their ancestors.

It is said that Lorkhan (one of the Aedras, at the time) destroyed the link between Mundus (Tamriel) and the Aedras place and the elves blame Lorkhan and the humans for that.

So is literally everybody. EVERYBODY. But to judge an entire race on npcs, OP, is wrong. I guess ever Nord is a barbarian. And the Altmer aren't really that different since even they have desendents in some of the human populations, all races can interbreed. So lets wait until we go to Alinor before we judge an entire race.

Come on brad I know all nords are not barbarians,but have you met the thalmor? They are the must stuck up organization since the Brotherhood of vampire slayers in oblivion. But You have a point,i mean There are some helpful altmer out there.

The Altmer - in my humble opinion - are a fascinating, ancient race that is very skilled in magic and deserves to be proud of its roots. Anyone who thinks that the actions and principles of the infamous Thalmor represent High Elves as a race and culture is very misinformed.

Altmer are my favorite race, their snooty attitude is only slightly justified. The reason the thalmor act the way the do is because tiber septim cut a swath throught tamriel, killing many altmer and rooting out their empire then was made into a divine. That whole practice of worshiping talos basically pouring salt in the wounds of the altmer. You'd think they would be over it by now, they are not.

In my opinion alinor will be the best way to learn more about the race most people seem to hate.

My point is, you can not judge every single member of the Altmer race before you go to the Summerset Isle. And I happen to think many Nords can be intellectual.

Altmer culture permeates mainland Tamriel. Regardless of their obsession with racial purity, the Dominion isn't very different from the Empire culturally.

Oh i have no doubts they practice some form of racial purity practice, but it is likely more subtle. Peer pressure as opposed to active work.

Ditto. I find their proud attitude rather endearing. They are by far my favorite race. They are strong and intelligent. Which is why I play an Altmer. And she's lovely. <3

No, but in well-executed works of fiction (Which I believe TES, despite some flaws, to be) races should be realistic to the point where it's safe to assume that individual members are as varied as in our own world. By and large this has proven to be the case. So far, aside from the occasional citizen, we have seen the worst of the Altmer: The Thalmor, or otherwise had our perception skewed by Imperial propaganda, as was previously mentioned. With that in mind, I think it's perfectly alright to expect that upon reaching Alinor we will come to see a different, less stereotypical side to the Altmer...indeed, it would be quite unfortunate if we didn't.

Wow there's alot of positive posts for the altmer, guess I'm gonna have to be tolerant. After all Ocato was a Altmer and he wasn't a follower of his racial agenda like they seem to do in skyrim, maybe it's just the time period.

most of the altmer I've met have made me want to disembowel them with a sword and you can blame Ancano with pompous whiny voice for that, and Ondolemar at first, then he got nicer when you do a job for him which at the very least makes him agreeable. Runil was pleasant and I liked him, at least before vampires killed him and the stable owner in Windhelm is an Altmer but behaves like a nord

anyways , on the altmer , i like them , they are interesting to me , but im not going to say they are all racist , as there are many good altmer fellows who dont care about race

I wouldn't say I hate ALL Altmer. Just the ones on the Aldmeri Dominion. I would also add that I think Dunmer get the short end of the stick in the sence that a lot of people (players and NPCs) seem to dis-like them for no reason. I've never came across a Dunmer that was a jerk without having a reason to be one.

They die in as many slashes as the next race, personality-wise though I don't care for them and their life spans are irrelevant as they will most likely die in combat or disease unless they live a sheltered life and even then it's not certain.
