To use the YouTube tag, copy in the YouTube video's extension - the part in the address bar after v=. For example, to get this - - I looked at the video's URL -
Code: Select all
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhFjW1_DalUCode: Select all
-and you're good to go!
We're figuring out how to make this beneficial, but here's from another post:
Remember, no posting of anything profane or not accepted as via the rules, which I know everyone has memorized by now anyway.Do they increase loading times for forum pages? If so, would that effect be mitigated by placing the embeds under spoiler tags?
After testing it here on UESP, I would suggest putting the YouTube embedded features under spoiler tags; there seems to be a slight lag time. I would encourage everyone to tell me how it's going for you individually so we can tailor some rules to serve everyone. This is mostly a test phase, and we thrive on feedback here on the forums.
What are some types of threads where YT embeds would be appropriate? I could imagine, say, the "What are listening to" thread with every post having an embed.
You got it. The Arts will probably be a good subforum for this, as well as any game media threads (such as the current Skyrim one), help threads with walkthroughs, and so on. Be creative! But it's important not to abuse the thread and put it everywhere.
What are the boundaries of abuse for using the embeds? Do the rules for posting "large images" apply? Because according to the official rules, "large images" are basically never allowed except in specially designated threads (though I still see them posted here and there anyway [and have even posted a couple myself under a spoiler tag]).
Basically, your posts should not consist mostly of YouTube embeds, nor should they be in contexts where it's not applicable. Rules for spam are in effect. They are technically "large images," but I'm not sure how this will affect everyone unless they tell me. We'll work on this going forward, but the best idea is the be conscientious.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to visit the thread for these things in the Forum subforum (how meta!). We always welcome new ideas for how to improve the site, as well as any criticisms or questions you might have!
Happy posting!
