"miss" a possible mod?
"miss" a possible mod?
I read though the morrowind better than skyrim thread thing and noticed that someone said you missed in morrowind. Would it be possible to add that to skyrim though the CK? Or is the combat system not capable of doing that? I like that you should miss once in a while and if you have no skill with a sword you should miss a lot. What about having spells randomly fail or backfire? Again if you have little magical skill it makes sense that it go wrong once in a while.
Re: "miss" a possible mod?
In my opinion the "miss" part would be really annoying, and also break immersion. If I'm 20 centimeters away from my target, the crosshair is centered in his chest, I attack him, the video shows my blade hitting his chest and then a "miss" statement pops up, I would be really upset.
As for the spells, them failing would be acceptable. I thought you had a failing chance in Skyrim anyway, I am not sure since I still haven't played a spell-user char.

We have it, it's called bad aim. It would work for a target-based game, but not the fps style of TES. I would be against it being implemented as a feature in the original game. However, you said mod, and you might get it. Deadly combat mod for oblivion added a dodge that could be really, and i mean REALLY annoying. You'll enjoy that.

I miss all the time with my bow.
Line up a long distance shot, with my target just behind a brick column, only to have the arrow hit the invisible collider mesh! ha! Then my target is like "What was that?"
Seriously though. I wish the non-rendered collider meshes were a bit more skin tight. But that's okay, I deal with it.

Re: "miss" a possible mod?
The missing in Morrowind was absolutely terrible. In fact, it was worse than the system used in Daggerfall. In Daggerfall, the enemy sprite would parry or dodge. In Morrowind, you could miss an enemy at point blank while neither of you were moving. There are a lot of things you should copy from Morrowind, and the combat system is NOT one of them.

Remember that Skyrim is an Action RPG. The fact that Morrowind's combat system was passive, ie you didn't manually block and your attack rate was pretty much the same as your opponent's, meant that a defined chance to miss was needed. In Skyrim, and Oblivion for that matter, the way combat works means that the way to miss is just to be really bad at aiming, like Mr Bullet said.
