Favorite Element of Destruction
Quite literally. Which is your favorite Destruction Element? Give us a little reason why, if you please.
Despite how often I use fire, my favorite is Ice, if for no other reason I like how it looks graphically. Especially Icy Spike. Who needs arrows when you can chuck a spear of ice through something?

Fire, because half the monsters in Skyrim are weak to it. And I just love setting oil tracks on fire. Gives me joy to hear screaming bandits. Ah.

Re: Favorite Element of Destruction
I chose fire cause i like the dmg, but i'm starting to use lightning more because of it's almost instant hit time. Does anyone know the different ranges for the spells or are they all the same? Firing fireballs or icicles at ranged enemies who actually know how to dodge can get tedious -.-
And I get to feel like a sith using my lightning spells anyway!

BOOOM!
Of course fire rocks. Because I'm scared of undead, and fire works in that regard. Also, the oil lamp thing is brilliant.

Re: Favorite Element of Destruction
Perhaps people use fire more also because every other creature is frost based, and even if they aren't, being surrouned by snow almost all the time probably primes us to use fire. That and undead.
Then again, in Oblivion, most enemies were weak to fire as well I think? Or was it shock. I just remember ice wasn't very effective in Oblivion either.

Yeah. Most deadra had this debilitating issue with shock. Except Storm Atronachs, IIRC.

Re: Favorite Element of Destruction
Skyrim needs more fire based enemies who live underground. I wonder if theres a dungeon with lava flow in it, that would be pretty sweet.
I understand that undead and all the frost creatures are weak to fire, but even DRAGONS have frost breath and those one are weak to fire too! -.-
I wish I had more incentive to use the frost spells.

Re: Favorite Element of Destruction
I have perks for all three elements but my Dunmer mostly uses fire. It seemed fitting that she'd have a thing for fire given that she has a 50% resistance to it.

but seriously 80% of the enemies are Nords who are immune to Ice
I rather use shock and UNLIMITED POWER

Chainlighting is the best, most destructive (uh) Destruction spell there is. Most enemies will quite literally take flight once you hit'em. Some will turn to ashes.

Fire, because it does the most damage when you consider the damage over time, and almost nothing seems to have noticeable resistance to it. On the very rare occasion you run into a fire atronach, even an un-perked ice/lightning spell will take care of it easily enough, so you can save the perks if you have something more useful to do with them...
At least on master difficulty it seems that frost doesn't even slow enemies down, or else I might have actually considered using that instead. Who cares about stamina effects (and maybe slow effects) when even with fire dual casting nothing can touch you while you're paying attention?

Re: Favorite Element of Destruction
I used them all; At first, before I got the dual cast perk in Destruction, I used Flames/Frostbite. I killed that Frost Troll on the way to High Hrothgar at level 5 doing that. lol
I didn't even realise it was a Frost Troll at the time, or I probably wouldn't have used Frostbite, but oh well. It worked.
Then I just used Firebolt for ages, but I start having trouble against mages since I couldn't stagger them when they had Wards. So I started using lightning on them.
Then I used Ice Storm on melee guys, 'cos it looks cool.
And also because I liked the residual trail of ice it left.
The slow on frost seems to take time to work up- But that was why I liked Ice Storm, they took DoT in the trail and then got stuck in it.

Shock mainly because it has my favorite spell animations. The master level shock spell just looks like a huge beam of awesome!

Don't see why not!Dunmer999 wrote:Can I vote if I don't have the game yet, but I know my answer based on looks and huge elemental preference?
I prefer flames and fire, as do most around here, I see. A lot of the reasons are already mentioned - being in a cold environment, the light in the dark aspect, so on and so forth. But I really think that fire is just a terrifying element. One well placed destruction spell in an old oil pit and boom! Now that'll leave them talking! Plus the whole fire thing is great for all those creepy dark spots.
I do admit, though, that lightning/shock is a lot, lot more terrifying...but I think there is a more human terror to fire. And thus I wield it so. Who doesn't like to watch the world burn?

Well, you'll find the oil only in certain dungeons. It's a pool of rainbow coloured liquid. Try using flames on it.

Re: Favorite Element of Destruction
I love frost because of the paralyzing perk you can get for it later, but there isn't enough incentive to use it.
In fact, in many cases there is no incentive to use anything but fire. It always has the cheapest spell cost and deals the most damage, and there are tons of enemies that are weak to it.
There are a bunch of enemies that are immune to frost, or at least take less damage from it, and probably just a pinch that are weak to it.
Shock usually isn't worth the cost. Enemies with magic usually have ridiculous stores of it, so it's unlikely that you'd ever drain their magicka supply without killing them first.
I think destruction magic needs more tweaking for the next game.

Re: Favorite Element of Destruction
With a pure mage I'll likely use fire mostly, but the element I'm voting for is lightning. Lightning to me is like an awesome element of death and energy. It's the element I'd use if I was really a mage.
