Companions glitch *SPOILER WARNING*

Don't say I didn't warn you about this spoiler. Last warning.

So basically I'm at the part where the old dude gets killed by the silver hand, and I am supposed to attack back , but there is no quest in my quest book, and I've tried talking to everyone they don't talk to me. To make this clearer I just did some companions quest then I got back to the companions guild place..whatever it's called..starts with a J like Jorvaskr or something, and there were two dead silver hand on the steps and people were crowded around. i go inside and i was met by farkas i think it was and he asked where i had been because i was supposed to guard the old man but the silver hand attacked and killed him and wounded others. he said something about going and attacking like them back but i have no quest and now he wont talk to me. what do i do? thanks

you have to speak to one of the dudes walking around inside Jorvaskr, when they say you have to fight back, they only mean get revenge. aka go to the silverhand HQ and cause some damage, but that quest is given to you by one of the guys inside the same room as the Companions "leader" dies in. I'm also certain he's supposed to die, don't worry. At least in my playthrough he did. It doesn't break the questline.
