Dunmer and the Great War (lore spoilers)
Dunmer and the Great War (lore spoilers)
Does anyone know what role the Dunmer played in the Great War? Did they side w/ the Aldmeri or the Empire? I know that High Rock, Skyrim, and Cyrodiil fought for the Empire; and Valvenwood and Elsweyr had been conquered by the Aldmeri.
Not sure about Hammerfall (presumably on the Imperial side) or the Black Marsh (probably tried
to stay out of it).
Any idea where the Dunmer and Morrowind stood?

is think the dunmer have problems with that volcano when it errupted, so in that time they were moving to skyrim.

Re: Dunmer and the Great War (lore spoilers)
I haven't been able to find any exact dates, but I'm pretty sure that the Argonian invasion of Morrowind was early in the Fourth Era, and the Great War was 4E 171 to 4E 175, so more than likely the Dunmer were already refugees in Skyrim and other places. Also, Hammerfell was an Imperial province during the Great War, however, they left the Empire afterwards, refusing to acknowledge the White-Gold Concordat, and later ended up pushing the Aldmeri out themselves.

Re: Dunmer and the Great War (lore spoilers)
The Dunmer played no part in the Great War, at least, not as a recognised nation. Perhaps there were Dunmer who fought in it, under a different banner.
The Great War was fought between the predominantly Altmer, Thalmor and the combined Legions of Cyrodiil, Hammerfell, High Rock and Skyrim, all that remained of the Empire at the time.

For what is worth, an NPC in Markarth told my Dunmer character that "we elves" banished the worship of Talos. Now, whether there is any truth to the involvement of the Dunmer or he was simplifying things (pointed ears = enemy), I'm not sure.

I was wondering at the time of Skyrim, do the Dunmer still worship the Tribunal?

Re: Dunmer and the Great War (lore spoilers)
I've heard Dunmer make reference to Nerevar and Azura, particularly in combat, and there is a large collection of Dunmer who follow Boethiah and Azura, one who claims that visions of Azura lead the Dunmer to safety after the Red Year. I cannot say for sure, but I would guess that the tribunal are well and truly fallen, seeing as they are arguably all dead, well, at least two of them are certainly. I think worship of the other Greater Saints and the Anticipations is returning in its stead.

Not seeing any references to the Tribunal other than historical notes. It appears entirely likely that the Dunmer as a whole have moved from Tribunal worship to the Divines. Of course, it doesn't help when the Tribunal is dead and the Ministry of Truth building causes Red Mountain to erupt.Ezkaton wrote:I was wondering at the time of Skyrim, do the Dunmer still worship the Tribunal?

I don't think they moved to the Divines. As I said above, the evidence points to their initial roots in the Anticipations and in Nerevar and the other Saints. The Dunmer are the only race not to follow some form of the Pantheon of the Aedra.

Neither the Khajiit nor Bosmer walk the path of the standard Imperial/Altmeri Pantheon. The Khajiit have their own Pantheon, which they believe correct, and the Bosmer... well, they're special.OblivionDuruza wrote:I don't think they moved to the Divines. Re: Dunmer and the Great War (lore spoilers)
Their Pantheons are still Aedric though. E.g. Alkosh = Akatosh, well, they are roughly equivalent being Imperial and Khajiit forms of the same entity, so to speak. The Bosmer essentially share the Altmeri Pantheon, which is Aedric, with a few minor alterations. Only the Dunmer and arguably the Argonians and Orcs (although they both lack Pantheons to begin with), do not worship the Aedra. Click.

Foolish men and mer may have a distorted view of the pantheon, but they are trying to follow the truth in their own way. They get most of the names almost right! What this Khajiit does not understand is all this fuss over Talos. Khajiit do not even claim that one of theirs became a god, and if anyone could do such a thing, surely it would be someone endowed with dar... and decent fur!Torinir wrote:Neither the Khajiit nor Bosmer walk the path of the standard Imperial/Altmeri Pantheon. Re: Dunmer and the Great War (lore spoilers)
Sorry to rekindle this post, but I have heard one reference to Vivec from a Dunmer in game. Something along the lines of "Vivec must have been with me" or "I must have had Vicec's blessing that day"... I can't recall the NPC but I know I heard the name.
Considering it's possible (depending on how long lived you believe Dunmer are) that many Dunmer in Skyrim's time period may have been alive before or shortly after Vivec's disappearance as well as how important the Tribunal's worship was, I think it's not a stretch to say that some may still at the very least revere them. They certainty are not forgotton, yet I do see Tribunal Temple being mostly defunct at this point and worship falling out of popularity.
Of course on the other hand, the phrase the NPC used could simply have developed into a figure of speech 200 years later or a force of habit.
