Installation time of PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
With everyone focusing on the leaks, spoilers, news, gameplay demos, perks ect., somethings have gone unanswered..One of the main things I have wondered is: What will the installation time be for PC? 30 minutes? 10 minutes? An hour? No installation time it just installs the first hour than installs in the background while you play? What about the 360 and PS3, anyone with a PS3 knows it also installs games and does 500000000000 updates, how long will that take? Xbox 360 usually doesn't have an installation time, at most just a small update that take 15 seconds.

Re: Installation time of PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
I'm a bit confussed? Isn't it going to be like it always is on pc?
As for consoles I can't say much for the Ps3 but for the xbox360 it will not need to install anything (it will work of the disc) and if you want to install the game to have it run quicker and smoother you can.
But, on a side note. I've heard somewhere that Skyrim on consoles is going to make use of heavy caching and this apperantly (feel free to correct me) means it will have to load 5 minutes each time you try to play Skyrim after having played something else...
I really hope this is not the case...
As for how long the game is going to take to install on any platform; It's been confirmed that the pc version of the game is going to be around 6 gb and the console version around 3.9 gb or so. This would mean that no version should take much time to install at all!
Now, I'm not sure about everything I said so don't take anything as law.

For PC: Depends on the speed of your HDD and the data pathways.
Modern E-SATA will take probably 30mins for the supposed 15GB installation. (off the top of my head)
Some one with a RAID SSD system, would probably take as little as 10-5 minutes.

I'm aware that you are being sarcastic... Since 3.9 gb never would take 8-10 H!LtGt72 wrote:Xbox... I would guess, 8-10 hours.

You're right. Still, installation can take a while on Xbox, if you are so inclined. You just don't have to. PS3, it often forces you to install part of the game.

Doesn't matter how long it takes, since I'll be preloading on Steam days in advance.

I'm on PS3 and I'm assuming it will be 10 minutes at least from the time I put the game in until I'm playing, so I'll probably make a sandwich or fix a drink and have a smoke.Frogmander wrote:PS3 does infact install, sucks too. Note people that the PS3 is Blu-ray formatted.
Most large size Blu-ray games MUST be installed because the reader can't read that much data from an optical CD. Therefore it installs the essentials onto the hard drive.

Well? I don't know what you mean about "can take a while" Normally a game of 6 gb or so takes 10 to 15 minutes to install?LtGt72 wrote:You're right. Still, installation can take a while on Xbox, if you are so inclined. You just don't have to. PS3, it often forces you to install part of the game.
A game that is 4 gb usually in a few minutes, not bad at all if you ask me :/
But really, I'm not that worried about anything doing with this... I'm just worried about this thing concerning heavy caching...
I really don't want to wait 5 minutes everytime I've played something else and want to switch to Skyrim...

Yeah, I doubt I will for a very loooong time
! But still, seems a bit annoying. enough so that I might actually go pc on this game if needed. Or buy a dedicated Skyrim Xbox >.>
Re: Installation time of PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Ehhh? About 90% of my Xbox games are 6GB... That seems odd.Yaxsis wrote: It's been confirmed that the pc version of the game is going to be around 6 gb and the console version around 3.9 gb or so.

He's totally wrong. Console is always about 6-7GB.Captain Future wrote:Ehhh? About 90% of my Xbox games are 6GB... That seems odd.Yaxsis wrote: It's been confirmed that the pc version of the game is going to be around 6 gb and the console version around 3.9 gb or so.
PC, right from the system requirements:
* HDD: 15 GB free disk space

I know, I know.
Very hard to believe at first but since Skyrim is all ingame rather than prerendered also very possible I'd think.
I googled it for you mate!

If Peter Hines made a twitter post about this it has to be pretty legit :/

Dude, you'll only be installing the game once.
This topic is akin to someone fretting over just how long that 'new car smell' is going to last when they purchase a new vehicle.
Don't. Frickin'. Care.

Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.
Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Re: Installation time of PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
Skyrim requires about 6GB of space for the PC, so it is understandable that a size of 4-6GB on the 360 exist. The PC needs higher quality texture files because the gamer is often a foot or two away from the screen, whereas the console gamer can be across the room. So, the PC generally gets more texture files than the 360, so around a 1.4GB would be lost from going one version of the game to the next.

And hey guys! Check this link out! It's the original link from where I got the info about how big the game is going to be on its respective plattform!

If it is wrong then I'm sorry for having spread wrong information but take a look?
Perphaps someone with a twitter account could confirm if Peter Hines has actually said anything about the matter?

You know if the game is that small, I'm wondering if they used Mega-textures.

They said the xbox version uses heavy caching so if it is only like 4 gigs I'm sure a ton of it is compressed and has to be loaded onto the hard drive cache to play

Captain Future
Not trying to convince you but? Oblivion was around 4 gb :/
Isn't Skyrim's new engine called the Creation Engine? Very possible Id helped them create it or that Bethesda took ideas from them...
Not sure of anything now :/

Might use something similair but I'm sure they are not using Id Tech 5 for anything in Skyrim :/Spiney wrote:You know if the game is that small, I'm wondering if they used Mega-textures.
