Character Healing
Will this game have any sort of healing potions? I plan for my character (at least my first) to mainly be a stealth/combat character and not mess with very much magic. Will I have to use alchemy and make my own potions if I don't use much restoration? Sorry for the noobish question but already planning my character

I'm pretty sure that every single RPG has some sort of item that heals you.

Re: Character Healing
I believe every western RPG has some manner of health potion, simply because not everyone wants to be a mad scientist. The series has always had potions you can buy, there would be no reason for them to change this.
Imagine if you will you have a pure close combat fighter. The guy/gal will be beaten over the head continuously by crazy people with giant hammers and axes, and if you had no way of healing yourself without magic or alchemy then you would die every five seconds. The Elder Scrolls games are designed to give you the option to choose what type of character you want, if every one of your characters had to take the same skills to survive then the whole freedom idea is cut to ribbons.

Re: Character Healing
Thank the gods. I don't really want to bother with Alchemy or take the Sign of the Lord just for the heals. I would rather take a boost that benefits stealth character. Min/max all the way!

You don't even have to worry about the Lord thing. No birthsigns.

Re: Character Healing
Although there are health potion your character also regenerates health over time. So at least you won't be completely done for if you have no health potions deep in the wilderness or a dungeon.
Re: Character Healing
They've done away with the signs? Interesting. What about stat increases each level?

Re: Character Healing
Sounds like you haven't been keeping up. There are no longer attributes in the game, so no more +5/+5/+5 nonsense. Increasing any skill will contribute to your experience toward leveling up. The only min/maxing you'd be able to do in Skyrim is plan out which perks you'll be taking and how many health, mana, and fatigue boosts you'll get.bluecid wrote:They've done away with the signs? Re: Character Healing
I remember hearing something about stat changes, but wasn't sure exactly what the person meant. Thanks for the info.

didn't they replace those with the standing stones? http://uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Standing_StoneDracomagne wrote:You don't even have to worry about the Lord thing. No birthsigns.
you can only have one birth sign active at one time.

Re: Character Healing
yes, i'll miss it too, i think there will be big changes to the TES game in this versionD_Lay wrote:I will miss the Atronach birthsign :/
and the changes i suspect will rattle many people at least as much as the transition between Mw to Ob did: things like healing over time, less skills, and the more intuitive interface which looks like it might be quite a move away from the traditional stable 'character sheet' style record of your hero with regards to skill trees and birthsigns
so brace yourselves and have an open mind cos Skyrim looks awesome but pretty different

it's not gone, it's just one of those standing stones now. you will have to find the atronach stone, than activate it.Mattbott wrote:yes, i'll miss it too, i think there will be big changes to the TES game in this versionD_Lay wrote:I will miss the Atronach birthsign :/

Re: Character Healing
Plus: Alchemy is a stealth skill now. Each specialization has their own crafting skill and Alchemy has been moved to stealth since the crafting skill for Magic is Enchant. So technically you won't even have to dabble in magic, only if you yourself consider alchemy still to be a magic skill.
Re: Character Healing
I hope the craft skills are pretty fun and straight-forward.

Re: Character Healing
I read an article ones that described Skyrim perfectly. It said something like: Skyrim is a sword & sourcery simulator.
Going away from RPG tradition to better immerse the player in the world.
Haven't played it yet, but the amount of enthusiasm surounding this game is a good indicator of how awesome this game will end up being.
