Fast Traveling, and Traveling in General
How do you plan on doing your traveling in Skyrim? I read in one of the previews that carriages are in the game, but only between major cities. Are you planning on riding a horse? Or zipping everywhere by fast travel?
In Oblivion I got in the habit of fast traveling too much and I feel like it turned the game into a series of loading screens. I'm going to try to play Skyrim without ever using the fast travel, but I'm not sure how strong my resolve will be if fetch quests start to pile up.

Re: Fast Traveling, and Traveling in General
I will probably travel on foot initially, to get a good feel for what is where. Later on, when I think I've done a good bit of travelling, I'll let myself be lazy and take carriages.
As far as quests piling up, what I find is easiest to do is to do all of the immediate area quests, then travel to wherever most of your quests want you to go. "Ok, so I've done everything I can for the moment here, and I have five quests that want me to go to Random Place #1, and three sending me to Random Place #2. Random Place #1 it is." Repeat as desired.

Initially I will explore everything on foot, of course. Once I get tired of this I'll have saved up enough money to buy a decent horse and proceed to use this to travel between cities and reach isolated wilderness destinations. Fast travelling will start occurring whenever I feel like it.

I think Narzul's choice will be very similar to mine.Narzul wrote:Initially I will explore everything on foot, of course. I'll tell myself that I won't fast travel, and then I'll get a quest that requires me to go across the map to something I've already discovered, and I'll cave in.

Ha ha ha, this is pretty much exactly what I was going to write. I can keep it up for a while but always cave eventuallyFajita! wrote:I'll tell myself that I won't fast travel, and then I'll get a quest that requires me to go across the map to something I've already discovered, and I'll cave in.

Well it really depends on the exterior designs. If it looks interesting I'll travel by foot or by horse most of the game, might occasionally use fast travel if I'm in a hurry or feeling especially lazy.

This is usually what I do, very efficient and saves me time.AeraDunmerMoon wrote:I will probably travel on foot initially, to get a good feel for what is where. Later on, when I think I've done a good bit of travelling, I'll let myself be lazy and take carriages.

However, I hope that fast-traveling will be a little more limited, like you can't fast-travel to 'dangerous' places.

Re: Fast Traveling, and Traveling in General
On my first playthrough, im going to walk EVERYWHERE and try to explore EVERYTHING. The game seems so big and intense and i dont want to miss anything by fast-travelling

I'm going to put off fast travel for as long as I can. Which won't be too hard, wasn't in Oblivion. xD I also don't want to miss anything the game has to offer by getting lazy and using FT. ;~;

Re: Fast Traveling, and Traveling in General
I always either fast-traveled or rode horseback in between locations in Oblivion, so I want to ask those of you who prefer walking, how does the speed compare? Do you put more emphasis on speed as a stat? Do you just travel less in general?

Re: Fast Traveling, and Traveling in General
I just tended to have more Speed enchantments on my items until I maxed the skill leveling efficiently. It's a noticeable difference, but I think it's worth it, because you get a lot more out of the game. And once you reach max Speed, you are faster than a Horse I think, barring Shadowmere.

Re: Fast Traveling, and Traveling in General
I agree, I try not to use fast travel so much as I do feel it takes away a chunk of the game if you do it too often. However, when I just want to finish a quest and am feeling too lazy to walk there or travel by horse or whatever, it is nice to have fast travel there.
