The Battle for the East, Defunct

Post by OblivionDuruza »

The Great Chamber was filled with noise and hubbub. As he prepared to enter the throng, Councilman Duruza of Great House Hlaalu, readied himself for what was to come. He took one final moment to compose himself, then pushed open the great doors of the Chamber.

A hush feel across the room as he entered. The others in the room feel silent and looked to this newcomer with questioning eyes, seemingly searching his very soul.

"Greetings brothers," Duruza proclaimed, "I am sure you are all aware of why you are here this night. We come together for a Council unlike any other we have seen in an age. We come for a Council of War!"

The room erupted in cheers at these words and Duruza raised his hands before continuing.

"The Argonians have taken our homes, they have taken what is ours. We cannot let our former differences get in the way of what is right, we must stand firm. United. As one peoples against these lizard scum!"

Again, the room erupted and this time the roar of the assembled Dunmer was too loud for anyone to even contemplate trying too speak over.

All the better, Duruza thought, let their passion burn like the fires of Red Mountain. The Three know we'll need all the assistance we can get in these dark times.

When the din finally ended, Duruza continued his speech,

"Brethren, we must stand as one. The Argonian-filth have taken much of what is ours. Our kinsman of House Dres have all lost their homes. Our beloved city of Narsis has fallen to this plague upon our homeland. If we do not fight, soon all will be lost. You of House Telvanni may think that all is well, but you have not seen the destruction. How much longer do you think the stoic Indoril can hold back the tide of war and shelter you from this darkness?

We must retake Narsis and secure the Thir river once more. For the lizards revel in the waters, and they travel swiftly into our heartland.

And we must hasten to the aid of our brothers in Almalexia, we can not know how much longer they will be able to withstand the onslaught on their city, with little in the way of sustenance and no help to be seen or heard of.

This is why I have called this meeting of gravest nature. Something must be done now lest our peoples fade away."

Spoiler:
Okay, we've begun. See the old discussion thread - OP, for background info, rules and other important info. Remember, all discussion will now be moved form the old thread to here. Use spoilers though and be sure to read other people's spoilers too.

Just to remind you all:

The Rules:
1. Stick to the topic
We're here to delve into the world of 4th Era Morrowind and Black Marsh so stick to pre-prescribed lore in official lore and as decided in the OP. Keep posts in the game world and don't go silly and/or off-topic.

2. No God RPing/Listen to DMs
This is a fundamental RP rule of thumb, don't try and take over the RP and/or other characters (including NPCs), unless of course your a DM. You can control your own actions, but not necessarily the outcome. (i.e. 'Duruza drew his sword and lunged at Setharan' not 'Duruza drew his sword and lunged at Setharan cleaving the filthy lizard in two').

3. Be realistic
Your character cannot be a superheor/god. You are a mortal like everyone else and you are not perfect in every way. You may be skilled in certain areas, but you have to acknowledge that in other areas, you are weak. We're all on the same foot (except perhaps our Argonian enemies - it would be interesting and fun to let them have a bit of an advantage :P) so keep it real.

4. Thoughtful Entries
I dream of an RP which reads like a book. This can be achieved if we all wait our turns, put extra time/effort into our posts, and consider carefully what others have written. If you have something you desperately have to say, but it takes a while to write, I will allow post reservations within reason, but I will retain the right to withdraw that privilege. It's just common sense though and I trust everyone here to do the right thing.. I'll also expect DMs to help write in nice little endings and beginnings to sessions and to help keep the RP flowing like a story.

5. Joining in/leaving
Feel free to join in whenever you want. Just make sure you do so in a manner that flows with the story. PM me if I'm around if you want me to bring you in or simply use a short intro like "Duruza had stood silently for some time, but as he observed the conversation that took place, he could no longer hold his tongue."

6. A note on spoiler tags
Keep all Out of Character posting to spoiler tags please. I'll post announcements in spoiler tags, so be sure to read them. If your setting the scene, just post in default rather than your colour, no need for spoiler tags (i.e. Thunder boomed across the night sky as Duruza hurried through the harsh rain towards the tiny speak of light on the horizon, that was Balmora).

7. Follow the Official UESP Forum Rules
This is a basic one, but make sure you know them and follow them

8. As always: Have FUN
You know me, I couldn't not put that in

Duruza and his men slay it, but Aadnas is injured
Aadanas recovers and the party is met by an Orcish mercenary who they recruit

Soon after, they are attacked by a small group of Argonians, who were chasing a Dunmer and a battle begins
The battle concludes with the appearance of a noted Redoran Councillor
The party makes camp for the night
Meanwhile, Owyn looks for Duruza in Kragenmoor, only to find he has departed

The party rests the night in the town, and the town leader informs Duruza of odd Argonian troop movements in the area
The next morning, the soldiers arrive at the Argonian Encampment, and prepare for battle, with some volunteering to flank the Argonian forces

The battle begins with Duruza leading his men in a direct charge on the encampment.
His other men complete the pincer movement spreading discord amongst the Argonians
Duruza sets fire to the Armoury
The battle continues and the Argonian forces are pushed back, some taking refugee in the barracks, while others flee.
Eventually the Battle is won, but Aadnas is taken captive, and Duruza and Gowron both injured, although not too seriously.
Several Argonians are taken captive, awaiting Duruza's orders for them.

Meanwhile a secret base on the Thir has been established by the Telvanni party.

The Almalexia party reaches the city and makes their way through the sewers, guided by a wounded Dunmer soldier who survived the Battle for the sewers.

At the same time, a Sload Sorceror approaches Almalexia and encounters the party in the sewers.

The important thigs that you need to know if you wish to rejoin the roleplay at this stage:
If you're with Jingles and co. you're in the sewers, about to enter the city of Almalexia.
If you're with me, we're regrouping after the Battle and some are heading out to save Aadnas.
If you aren't with any of the above groups, you can be written into the story by me. Let me know and I'll write you in along with Ezkaton in a third party, probably headed for the Thir to meet up with Chaos.

We of House Indoriil will fight to the last mer and will emerge victorious! Edril exclaimed. He was offended by even the predication of an Indoriil defeat.

Beren Donus watched the Council from the shadows, wondering if they knew what was actually about to happen, wondering how many of his kinsmen wouldn't make it back after this war.

Beren despaired into the shadows, making his way towards the doors. No one even knew he was there.

A voice called out "But how shall we break the tide of this invasion? What hope do any of us have? We're doomed! Doomed! We must flee across the border to Skyrim, we may be safe in the halls of Winterhold."

That is not an option! Who would be such a coward was it not for he lacks of faith and honor! We must stand our ground or face a disgarceful defeat! Edril was now even more angry, who but a low ranked coward would come up with such an idea?

Okay, ideas time. Any thoughts will be accepted, but perhaps heads of houses should get right of first reply. Feel free to post whispers to one another though (just make sure you make clear it’s a whisper – i.e. ‘Duruza muttered under his breath’ etc., or a thought – thoughts in italics).

Kogomorag paced just outside the antechamber listening the proceedings, wondering what was taking Archmagister Vandus so long to arrive.
He tensed slightly at the mention of fleeing. He took off his goggles to get a better view of the council, his ears perked.
Spoiler:
Fell asleep, sorry about that

Beren left the Council Hall, bumping past a young Dunmer, racing in.
Beren's hood fell back, revealing his scared face. The young Dunmer staggered back, stunned, eyes wide with fear. Beren looked at him for a moment, replaced his hood then moved on.
"Where is Archmaster Ezkaton? He should be here..." He thought.

Spoiler:
Seeming how Ezkaton isn't here, should I take his place as head of Redoran for this RP?

Edril sat silent, what could we do? The Argonian front line was tight, nearly flawless, how could beasts such as they are, create something like this. Surely they simply couldn't, could they?

Edril them murmured to his neighbour, Do we know how the Argonians are stationed at Mournhold? I have yet to behold this sight, but there might be a weak point in their rear.

Spoiler:
@weasel: I know! Isn't it great?!

ps. I used bold as murmuring...

Kilaya sat low in his chair, disgusted at this filthy Dunmer praise. The chairs next to him were empty. No one wanted to sit near lizard scum. He stared at the other councilors, some seemed to glare into his haunting eyes when ever the word "lizard" was mentioned.
This is all an enormous load of crap. Dunmer pride and honor? Please. I'd rather be force fed raw kwama eggs than listen to this garbage.

The Dunmer sitting next to Edril turned and muttered, "The city of Almalexia still stands firm. The Dunmer of House Indoril are keeping the monsters at bay for now. Last I heard a batch of Argonian reinforcements was on the march towards the city, but due to the Argonain's lack of siege weaponry, the attack is not going too well for them."

Kilaya glared around at everyone.
"If I may speak out," Everyone murmuring stopped and dove into silence, "The Argonian forces indeed hold a strong line, even though they lack the ability to pull off large siege attacks. You might as well give up. They won't stop until they burst the walls of Mournhold. If anything after that we should move into the Velothi mountains. It will provide... Spiritual comfort for your people." Everyone stared at him darkly. Suddenly, a councilor spoke out loudly.
"Why do you have so much faith in the Argonians? I say the lizard is a traitor!" This caused a massive uproar.

Ko caught the scent of something unpleasant, but a familiar one none the less, he glanced around the chamber.
He began to make his way around the outskirts of the room, searching for the origin of the smell he hated so
'who would let a lizard in this war council?' he thought to himself, his eyes darting through the crowd

His eyes focused on the speaker. Ko began to pant in anticipation, but it was drowned in the uproar. He calmed down, remembering that his place was to observe not meddle

Kilaya looked at Duruza happily. "If you send anyone in there... They will die. You cannot challenge an Argonian military to a battle of force. They will only strike back with the opposite war technique, and hit you ten times harder."

I'm sorry, but defeat is not an option. I respect your judgement friend, but we must turn back the tide of this war, no matter the personal cost.

We must send a party to Almalexia and free the city. The Ordinators are evacuating the civilains into Mournhold and Bamz-Amschend, but if the outer city falls, they will be completely cut off from our aid. We must act now.

"I just want it to be clear with everyone that these are real people. Farmers, blacksmiths, merchants, the list goes on. We will not send those soldiers to their death." Kilaya's words struck guilt and fear into some of the council members.

In a shadowy corner, away from the ruckus, safely under the cover of an invisibility spell, stood a young Dunmer woman, shrouded in a burgundy colored robe, and watched everything unfold.

"I can't believe this!" she muttered under her breath, "Only Dres worth mentioning in all of the city, and yet no invitation to the council. Stupid Hlaalu arrogance!"

She continued to watch the council unfold from her corner, silently swearing.
Because there's no fun to be found in being normal.
