ITT: Lifehacks

Post by SquareRobot »

If you're not familiar with "lifehacks" they are just tricks you can do to save time/money in your life or making your life healthier with little effort on your part. Basically min/maxing reality.
I'll start it off with a short list of my personal favorites. Feel free to toss in your lifehacks.

1. Stir instant coffee into mug of water, cover with poptart, heat twenty seconds, chow down like a boss.
2. Poop exclusively at work. Save money on TP and get paid to do nothing.
3. Crack a dozen eggs into a pitcher, stir, add cheese and pieces of ham. Keep in fridge. Pour in microwaveable dish for an omelet in two minutes.
4. To avoid looking like an old dude or a kid, wear your pants an inch or two below your belly button. The crotch of your pants should actually be at your crotch, lower and it's kiddy, higher and you're an old man.
5. Eat more vegetables, you'll feel better.
6. Always carry a safety pin, a small penknife, a handkerchief and a lighter. Small objects that can easily fit in a pocket and still have a cell phone sharing the room without being bulky. Makes you look like you're always prepared.
7. Don't show up your boss in front of his superiors, if possible attribute whatever you did/thought to your boss and pressure him for a raise for saving his keister.
8. Bring dry-good food to keep in your desk at work. Eventually, your lunch is going to be stolen. This way you have something to eat for lunch without having to dash out. Also works if you keep snacks in your locker at school if you forget money or whatever.
9. Wear lip balm pretty much any time you're going to be outside for an extended period of time.
10. If your children/lazy flat-mates/co-workers explode food in the microwave and neglect to clean it out, put a dish of lemon or lime juice and heat it till it boils for a while. It covers the inside with a small layer of ascorbic acid from the vapor and makes it easier to clean off. Smells great too.

I spend most of my time on the Road, traveling for work. This is one of my tricks:

Most of my coworkers pay with cards, never carry cash. I always carry cash, and pay with cash, here is why: Most hotels do have vending and laundry, but no change machines. I save all of my change, and never pay with change. I use the quarters for laundry, and the dimes and nickles for that late night vending machine snack.

Ref Dry and Can Goods:

I actually do that at the House. If I am gone for two months, like I am now, then I usually do not want to go shopping after I have spent the whole day traveling. Especially if I have to leave again the next day or two. This way I will always have some food when I get home that is not spoiled.

I also keep some jerky and trail mix in my backpack, for traveling, or when a mission lasts past dinner.

Another travel one, which can help at home too: Open the window shades, and/or curtains.

How this helps: It chases away the creapy crawlies. If your room at a hotel is brite and shinny, then they will go to another room which is not. An example, is bedbugs. As a fequent traveler, I have to be aware of this, as I could bring them home.

- keep you clothing off of the floor
- keep your bags off of the floor, and spray them with a disinfectant
- wash your cloths before you bring them home
- keep them in sealed plastic bags
- spray the dresser drawer with a disinfectant before you put your cloths in them
- keep your bags clean
- hard case bags are better than cloth bags, as the cloth can absorb your body smells from your clothing
- a lot of pouched and pockets mean more places to hide

Bedbugs are called such, not because they live in the bed, but becuase that is where they feed. They are attracted to your breath, blood, body smell and heat. They do not travel to your home on you, but in your bags, which have your cloths, which smell like you.
