Favorite Villain?
I know you have one... Everyone has one. So, what is it?
Mine would have to be Dagoth Ur or Lorkhan.

Re: Favorite Villain?
Dagoth Ur, because like all good villains I can honestly say that he wasn't truly one. You could empathize with his cause, if not straight out support it.
Dagoth Ur's origins are ambiguous enough for me to say that he might of been technically in the right when he tried to save the heart and artifacts. Who was the traitor Nerevar or Dagoth Ur? The fact that I can honestly ask that question without a truly lore wise, correct answer tells me that in the end, they were both guilty of being the traitor. Dagoth Ur wanted to save the heart; to unify the Dunmer people. Nerevar wanted to destroy. Why? He had no reason to sacrifice the heart besides the temptation of its power. His choice of action, instead of using the power to become a god along side Vivec, Almalexia, Sotha Sil, and Dagoth Ur; this path would had lead the Dunmer people to become the kings of Tamriel, instead he sacrificed this chance to murder Dagoth Ur. His reward for his choice was being murdered by his other companions. Tell me, was it worth it? We will never know as this is the road not taken.
Despite this Dagoth Ur had another chance to change the course of Dunmer history, for the better, we don't know. Once again this was a path not taken. After the last betrayal though Dagoth Ur did have some parting words for his old master when they met in the room before the heart chamber.
This reveals that he really truly wishes to mend old wounds, but he knows that the actions of old would only see to another disaster if reconciliation was attempted.
Dagoth Ur knew truly that for the Dunmer to ever be a truly powerful people a lot of people would have to die, including Nerevar reborn and his old rivals. He knew that he wasn't the good guy, and he didn't care as he was doing what he though was right, even if it was just as evil as it was good. This is Something we should all aspire to achieve. The only difference between him and his enemies was that he had a legitimate chance of seizing power, a chance that I don't think anyone else will have again. He tried to do what all around him have tried at times, and yet he was universally hated due to the fact that he was the only one with a legitimate chance at power.
So in the end Dagoth Ur is my favorite villain as Nerevar and the Tribunal are my most hated villains in the series. A bold claim I admit, but one that I find hard to argue with

"Now that you have come to me here, there can be but one result. Many times I have considered offering to share this place with you. I considered offering to accept your oath of service. You might try to buy my trust by giving me Wraithguard, Keening, and Sunder. I thought we might once again be friends... comrades... brothers in arms."
"But I have won this place and power by right of conquest. By right of daring and enterprise. I will not risk it to cunning and deceit. I offer you no deals. If you are my enemy, I cannot trust you. And even if you are not my enemy, I cannot let you live."
"It will all be decided here. I believe I will prevail. But I cannot be sure, and I am vain enough that, should I fall, I would wish to be remembered in my own words. So, if you have final questions you would ask, ask them now. I have final questions I would ask you, if you would answer."
These words to me seem to admit that he regretted the actions of old, and did truly wish to be once again friends with Nerevar. He knew that he only earned this position by chance, and he wouldn't lose it to the Tribunal once more. Remember, the whole time Dagoth Ur's main goal was to create a truly free Dunmer nation, without the threat of the foreign powers that would decimate Morrowind after his death. However a few of the other things he says confirm my beliefs that he is truly the single most unfairly judged characters in Elder Scrolls history."But I have won this place and power by right of conquest. By right of daring and enterprise. I will not risk it to cunning and deceit. I offer you no deals. If you are my enemy, I cannot trust you. And even if you are not my enemy, I cannot let you live."

"My second question is: if you win, what do you plan to do with the power from the Heart? Will you make yourself a god, and establish a thearchy? Or will you complete Akulakhan, and dispute control of Tamriel with the Septims? Or will you share the Heart with your followers, as I have, and breed a new race of divine immortals?"
"Complete Akulakhan."
"A noble ambition. And anyone who would make war upon the Septims should be my friend. A pity we cannot trust one another as allies."
This reveals that he really truly wishes to mend old wounds, but he knows that the actions of old would only see to another disaster if reconciliation was attempted.

Re: Favorite Villain?
Dagoth Ur basically like what AKB said, because he is like Hitler in the fact that he is "evil" by common vitrues, but has a streak of "right" about him as if he's truly doing a good thing. I also really like Mankar Camoran because he's so crazy and I love his little rant (especially the bit about Tamriel being a Daedric plane lost to its prince).

I'd say he's more of a Stalin than a Hitler really. But irrelevant discussion is irrelevant.

Nah, he is more of a Maximillian Robespierre. EDIT: Look him up... creepy....OblivionDuruza wrote:Dagoth Ur basically like what AKB said, because he is like Hitler in the fact that he is "evil" by common vitrues, but has a streak of "right" about him as if he's truly doing a good thing. I think that Jyggalag is the best villian. You just can't have a real victory over an entity with a mindset that cannot be reasoned with.

Re: Favorite Villain?
Jyggalag was not really a villain. He was simply a misguided pioneer. Just like Dagoth Ur.

But they used evil means to get their way, so they can be considered villians.

Hm, I would have to say Claude Maric because he is a slimy little rat - so dastardly you look forward to wiping that smirk off his face.
Followed by a few Necromancers, specifically Caranya, Camilla Lollia, Noveni Othran and Mariette Rielle. These ladies always stick in my mind for having the most gratuitously evil dialog in Oblivion, not many NPC's threaten to let their master suck the marrow from your bones, play with your corpse or offer your head as a gift.

I guess Hieronymous Lex is my favorite 'villain.' He, of course, is only a villain in the sense that he opposes you. On the otherhand, if Lex doesn't count as a villain, then Mankar Cameron is quite interesting, although I don't know if he's my favorite, just intriguing.
