Skyrim could have werewolves and Vampires?

Post by I_am_one »

This is all speculation, but there is some evidence to back this up.

On the Bloodmoon expansion for Morrowind, one can travel to the island Solstheim, and become a werewolf. Solstheim is technically a part of Morrowind, though the weather is more like Skyrim. Logically, werewolves could have migrated to the island, with a similar climate. Again, speculation.

Secondly, in Oblivion a book called Immortal Blood describes different vampire clans in Tamriel. One such clan was call Volkihar of Eastern Skyrim.

A quote from the book,
I_am_one wrote: "I told him about the most powerful tribe, the Volkihar, paranoid and cruel, whose very breath could freeze their victims' blood in the veins. I explained to him how they lived beneath the ice of remote and haunted lakes, never venturing into the world of men except to feed....Volkihar have an additional ability you didn't mention. They can reach through the ice of their lakes without breaking it.
It is possible we could become a vampire from this clan, with some special abilities. Paralyze on Target ability, or some ability to walk through ice to access hidden areas perhaps? What other abilities would be possible, or quests?

What say you guys?

It would be nice if those "beasts" were added.

Hopefully they will do it. Bethesda tends to follow their lore like some kind of a religion, it seems.

Mostly I'd like to have a friendly Vampire faction if that was the case.
I definitely wanted one in Oblivion. And lacking the lycanthropes in
Oblivion was pretty sad as well.

Perhaps if Bethesda decide to have guilds and factions being 'involved' with each other again, then we could have Vampire v Werewolf sort of quests, each trying to rule the night of Skyrim. As long as they make each side have it's strengths and weaknesses this could work out well in my opinion.

If the werewolves are making a comeback, i doubt they'll have a war with the Vampires. Maybe Vampire clans fighting each other, but Werewolves vs Vampires? What would they have to fight about?

Don't be so close minded, perhaps it's some sort of blood wars. After all what is the one thing both Vamps and Werewolves have in common? they need blood! In a place like Skyrim, where it is snowy and not exactly densely populated 'food' could be quite hard to find for each of these cursed beings.

but have the werewolves any sort of organization? The vampires can be intelligent, even more so than their Alive counter parts, since they live for centuries. the werewolves wouldn't have this. Even if they have some sort of organization, how smart will they be?
not ruling it out, I'm actually hoping for something like this.

Well, I think the part of werewolves that you're missing is the part where
they are also human. I'm sure, as humans, they can be organised. Far be
it from me to know whether they maintain their cooperation as beasts,
however.

I'd say that werewolves would be able to organize themselves as beasts the same way actual wolves do. You'd have an "Alpha Wolf" whom all the other wolves deferred to.

They can be very organised. Look at Bloodmoon, they hunted down the Nords in packs, and to work as a pack requires effecient team communication.

Sure they where controlled by Hircine 'to a certain extent' but perhaps the ones in Skyrim have a shrine to him, a bit like how the Dark Brotherhood has one to the Night Mother etc. nothing is stopping more Daedric Princes being heavily involved in the game, and we all know that eventually there will be expansions which will build up on certain things.

Vampires VS Werewolves is the biggest cliché in fantasy-history, and I don't want TES to sink that low. I would enjoy having both factions in the game, but I don't want long questlines with them fighting each other. I like how they did vampires in Oblivion; an extra element that just made the game deeper without getting unnecessary attention. A quest here and there, nothing big.

That;s kind of what I meant, a bit like how the Thieves guild and Fighters guild where against each other in Morrowind. But a little more epic now that they have the engine and AI to do such things.

I've never even played Morrowind, but I'd still love to see lycanthropy in Skyrim, same for vampire guilds.

In the end it can only add to the game, can't it?

Some possible quest lines

Vampire
When you become infected and become a vampire, you'll get an invitation to join one clan (A random one? Only one kind in the whole game?) which you can either accept or decline. If you accept, you'll join the vampire clan ranks, and have to do different jobs to rise in rank. Kill renegade vampires, infect humans, collect blood/slaves, kill cows. Eventually, you'll become the "Master Vampire".
If you were to decline/ignore the invitation, you will be considered a renegade vampire, and different vampires will come after to kill you. After killing a set number of vampires, the Master Vampire will come after you personally. Should you defeat him, you'll become the Master Vampire.
In either situation, if you become Master Vampire, you can choose to ignore the title, or have your minions do tasks for you to gain personal income.

Werewolf
When you become a werewolf, you'll join another pack of werewolves, who you hunt with nightly for food. Soon, one of your fellow wolf will turn up dead by a silver arrows. As it turns out, a group of werewolf slayers are in the areas, hunting off all werewolves they find. You and your pack will have to find each slayer, and kill them, either at night as a werewolf, or during the day time as a human. Each option will have its pro and cons. At night, you're more likely be alone with the slayer, but can't use any armor or weapons, only claws. During the day time, people are more likely to be around, but you can use your armor and swords. For each slayer that dies, the remaining slayers will kill another of your pack, until it's just you, and the last slayer.
Which slayers you kill and when you kill them is up to you. For example, you could kill Joe at night, and Bill during the day, or you could kill Bill first at night, and Joe second during the day. After all slayers are dead, more werewolves will come out from hiding, and you can choose to be the Alpha Male of a pack, or a lone wolf, looking out for only yourself.

So, what do you guys think?

I really really hope that werewolves are included! I was angry that they weren't in Oblivion, and the vampires in Oblivion kinda sucked. So: better werewolves and vampires!

actually werewolves need meat, raw meat not blood. in that sense it would actually benefit them to work together, the vampires suck the blood and the werewolves eat the carcass. there needs dont intersect.

If both included, it's only right that they cross paths at some point in the adventure. However, I agree that the Vampire vs Werewolf cliche is a bit overdone. As long as they don't over-do it and don't make it the focal point of the two factions then I'd have no problem with it. Like maybe some covert quests that affect one or the other but not much other than that. I'd imagine that they would both realize each others place in Skyrim and try as best to leave each other alone unless ofcourse it is absolutely needed.

I could see some political feuds but a War? Eh..

Or some sort of Treaty like "Vampires can do this, but werewolves have this whole area to hunt in for themselves?"

You think that's good? Just wait till you hear this:

Ok, so right, there is like, this girl, and she is totally in love with a vampire and a werewolf, and she like, totally has to choose between them. Lets call her Bella or something.

I kid, I kid, Twilight sucks.

On a serious note though, all I want out of any wolfie/vamp quests are a complete disregard of anything twilight-related. I doubt Beth will go there, but if vampires start sparkling or something I will go totally librarian-poo.
