How many levels?
Whats the maximum level one can reach? I'm at level 44, and have soon maxed all my major skills.
I used to play Oblivion, then I took an arrow in the knee.

The Console Command Page shows setlevel range 1-255. From what I know, there is no specific set max level. Each character is different, even if we had the same starting characters, we could end up with different max levels.
This should give you an idea, about what your max level would be: http://www.linklost.com/occ/
Playing around with it, I've seen variables from 50 to 53.

That is just an estimate though.
You stop gaining levels once all 7 Attribuites reach 100, that is based on getting +5 for 3 Attributes each level. If you do not get +5 for each level, you will get a few extra levels.
If you only raise 1 Major Skill by 10 points, and only raise it's Attribute +5, raise Luck +1, you could get around 80+ levels.

Attributes don't limit your level - skills do. Assuming no racial bonuses.
75 * 7(number of major skills) = 525 major skill rises.
525/10 (skill rises per level) = 52 levels (and 5 extra skill rises towards unreachable 53rd level rise.
1 (starting level) + 52 = 53 - max level.
This is assuming you didn't take any skill-rising quests (Grey Prince and training etc.), you didn't pick any skills with racial/birthsign/other bonuses as your majors
You may try cheating using jail (lower skills) to gain higher level.
The question is: what for? Level is about the most useless parameter in the game.
100 (max) - 25 (starting skill) =75 skill rises per skill.the highest possible level in the game is 53 (level 1 plus 52 level ups). It can only be aquired by having six of your seven major skills start at 25 with the seven able to be either 25 or 30

There once was a Prince named Mehrunes

Okay, I see that now. Thanks for clearing that up. For some reason, I mis-read that it was the 7 Attributes (instead of major skills) being at 100 which locked Player Leveling.
I was curious once (and bored), so decided to do a test (not to actually play). Shortly after I created a new character, I used the Console Commands to raise a Major Skill 10 points. Slept, and raised a level. I did this until all the Attributes were at 100. Since I was using the Console, I was able to go over 100 for skills.
Sorry for the confusion.

There is one benifit, as you gain more health with each level.
When I did the Concole Command Level Raise Test, I did notice that even though Magica capped out (at 200) when Intelligence reached 100, and did not increase with each Level, Health did still increase. So did Fatigue & Encumbrance (if I remember correctly).

I know what you mean. You can beat the game at Level 1. I've read where a few people "Hold off" Leveling, so they can have Max Skills, at Low Level. Then Have Low Level Creatures.
The Drawback to this, is that your Attribute Bonuses Lock. Once you can Level, you will get +5 Bonus for all of your Attributes (only can choose 3), but will end up with no Bonus's for the 20 Levels that you stacked.
On the other hand, once you reach about Level 25, it seems that the Creatures stop Leveling with you. Not sure if that is the case, it just seems that after Level 25, it just gets easier and easier.
Another reason to Level, would be to get the Leveled Magic Items. The Leveled Non-Magical Items don't really matter, since everyone else gets it too.

Yep, except highest threshold of levelled items is 40 or so. by 30 or so you can max out all your attributes exccept of luck. By 42 you can max out all attributes including luck. Before 52 you have all your skills maxed out. The random loot doesn't get better, the only parameter rising is health, you're virtually unbeatable. But the enemies get stronger. A level 200 player will have only more HP than a level 52 player. But a level 200 ogre will obliterate such a player in 2 blows.
Practically, the best parameters are around level 35-40. You have all your -important- skills and parameters maxed out. Later you just increase the remaining mercantile, security, other useless skills you don't need. You have attributes maxed out, except of luck which doesn't matter by then anyway. Later you don't really gain much with each level gained, and the last 5 levels or so are almost profitless. There is no point in levelling beyond lvl 50 or so.

Ahhh... so it is not that you think that Level itself is a bad paramiter, it is just "Usless" at Higher Levels.
I agree to an extent. True, there are some issues with Level Scaling, Leveled Items/Cratures, but not to the extent of it being a "Game Breaker". It requires some adjustment to play, but I use it to RP more.

Actually level IS bad when high. Just not as bad as around 10-20. The The good loot is useless as you have about the best equipment you can and more of the same stuff doesn't help, the enemies get harder though remain beatable, and generally there is no purpose playing more - in Final Fantasy 7 you get some amazing prizes for amazing feats. In several other games you get some kind of hidden ending or secret item when you gain level 100 or kill every single enemy or something like that. In Oblivion there are just more gates, stronger ogres, higher level daedra, nothing to be found, no surprise ending, no profit. Just more levels.
