First time oblivion: so huuuuuuuuge
First time oblivion: so huuuuuuuuge
Hi, this is my first time playing Oblivion and I think the game is amazing. For some reason I have this "problems":
1) Oblivion is so huge!!!!!!!, I've 5 hours of gameplay and the last thing I do was close the Kvacht gate. I don't know what to do next, if continue the main quest, visit some guild, explore, sell loot...there are so many things to do that I don't konw what to do next!!!!! This is the reason why I prefer to Modern Warfare 2 and play online, because I can play it for 30 min, but I think that to play Oblivion I have to spend 3 hours in front of TV!! First Question: what's your recomendation to solve this problem???
2) My character is:
Breton
Sign: the mage
Attributes: Endurance and Willpower
Major Skills:
Armorer
Heavy Armor
Block
Blade
Conjuratin
Restoration
Destruction
I think this is a good character, a good Warrior-Mage mix, but I have the trhee Endurance Skills as Major and I want raise endurance the earlier, but I can't get +5 on this!!!!! So I usually have +5 strenght,+5 willpower, +2 or+3 on endurance. The second question is: Its worth to raise endurance the earlier in the game, or should I start the game with another character configuration that doesn't have this problem?????
Thanks!!!!!!!!!1

Ha, one of the reasons why Oblivion is good is because that it's so huge. It isn't like MW2 where you're set in an area with a gun in hand and you have only one objective (essentially): get XP (and/or kill people).
With Oblivion it isn't like that, instead of just going out there with one objective set in mind ("I'm going to avenge Uriel") you can instead, half-way there, get attracted to something totally different. ("I'm going to raid this cave and sell the loot."/"I'm going to explore the wilderness.") If you try to medicate it with a solution then it can't be Oblivion or any Elder Scrolls. I'd advise just exploring around and getting into whatever you get into. Maybe explore a town and do a few quests and see where that leads you.
This certainly is a feeling where you can do anything out of a whole bunch of things, but you don't know which to choose.

first, go to shivering isles, make your way to New Sheoth Palace, talk with Lord Sheogorath, and when you start to get confused on what he rambles about, pull your sword out and strike him once, or twice, or however many meets your fancy.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Heh, yes, definitely go hit Sheogorath. He knows how to take a joke and his reaction is priceless.
To answer you directly, do whatever you want. There's no hurry to do any one thing, and *VERY* few places in the game are on any kind of timer. Just go out and enjoy. Explore. Hunt. Dungeon dive. Quest. Fight. Collect flowers. Whatever makes your character happy.

Maybe it's just me, but I find that that feeling wears off fairly quickly.Kestral wrote:Ha, one of the reasons why Oblivion is good is because that it's so huge.
I mean, when I first played Oblivion, it was scary, daunting, and I didn't know where to begin. Now, when I play it, it just seems so.... small. Almost confined.
Maybe it's the fast travel, maybe it's because I've done every single quest in the game, who knows, maybe it's a combination of both of those, who knows.
Still have a lot of fun though, and it's still fun to just say screw it and just start exploring. (It doesn’t hurt that I'm still finding things I haven't seen before
Ah yes, "Signatures"
Re: First time oblivion: so huuuuuuuuge
I think that's just time. I found the game mesmerizing, completely mesmerizing, for about six months. It's all I played. I can barely play for a day now, but I have really great memories of it.

It's indeed a bit problematic that Armorer, Heavy Armor and Block are your major skills. But since this is your first playthrough, I recommend you just continue playing and have fun. This game is not about creating the best character possible, but simply having fun.
If you want to get a +5 bonus in Endurance, you need to forget about Blade, Conjuration, Restoration and Destruction. That's possible (use a bow instead) but if you like those spells, it might not be an option.
Getting a +5 bonus in Endurance isn't that important. If things really get tough, lower the difficulty a bit. For now, a +3 or +4 bonus is fine. So make sure you've levelled your Endurance skills at least 6 times (Block/HeavyArmor/Armorer 6x). Be careful not to powerlevel too much. Switch to a Blunt or Marksman weapon every now and then
As for your first problem:
Yes Oblivion is huge but remember that you can save at anytime. So if you're in a hurry, visit a dungeon on your map, loot it, save your game and then exit it. That's the good thing of Oblivion imo, you can play it for hours on end or just a few minutes.
It's always good to start with the guild quests. So join the Mages Guild and Fighters Guild and complete all their quests. You can save the Main Quest for later
Random dungeon exploring is good for loot and fun imo. You can also find a lot of sidequests in all the cities, just ask people about 'rumors' and every now and then you'll pop in a quest or two.
Good luck

Re: First time oblivion: so huuuuuuuuge
oh the memories, my first time i ever exited the sewers was such an incredible, scary, daunting, and yes, HUUGE experience.
not knowing left from right, chorrol from leyawin.
10 gold in my pocket. And bandits in the wilderness dead set on chopping me to pieces.
no friends, relatives, family, guild members. just a complete outcast dropped in the middle of Cyrodiil.
even the mudcrabs seemed to hold a beef against me.
ohhh, pure imagination!

Re: First time oblivion: so huuuuuuuuge
The main quest is a big thing for a first objective, its good to learn some lore on Oblivion. Once you've done that, you can complete the chain of quests you recieve after going in Sheogorathes Realm (shivering isles, or the quest "a mysterious door has opened...") If you dont like those you can train your charactar and make him really strong for his level. In order to get a good levelup +5/+5/+5 you gotta manage it rlly well by not leveling any extra skills. To levelup with +5+5+5 you need to get 10 major skills levelup to just get the levelup and a +5 is required to have 10 skill ups in that category (endurance- heavy armour, strength- blade) so you could get like 3 level ups in heavy armour if it were one of your major skills then 7 block skull ups from a minor skill and get a +5 in endurance. Not interested in that? Try the Arena! that was my fvorite thing when first playing, if its easy wins, turn up your difficulty so you ca BARELY win. that makes it funner. Then once you become the grand champion you can think, heh, im a champion. Shaweet ^^ another favorite of mine is deadric artifacts, you get the coolest items such as aninfinite lockpicker, a like god head helmet. TOns of stuff t, try one of those on for size.
Re: First time oblivion: so huuuuuuuuge
Thanks for all your help!!!!Another question:
I'am thinking of creating another similar character but with 2 Endurance skills as Major and Illusion as Major. The configuration is:
Breton
Sign: the mage
Attributes: Endurance and Willpower
Major Skills:
Endurance skill 1
Endurance skill 2
Illusion
Blade
Conjuratin
Restoration
Destruction
The question is: what 2 Endurance Major skills are best to select????. I will use all Endurance skills, but I don't know what is the easiest to train (less time consume) to set it as a minor skill. Should be block???
Thanks!!!

Re: First time oblivion: so huuuuuuuuge
My first play through was on the xbox 360. I played every DLC and side quest I could find before moving on to the main quest. I had over 200 hours spent on the game and still hadn't touched the main quest or probably half the smaller dungeons. I have since put that aside because I bricked my first xbox because I played it for so long. Now i have the game for the PC and it's [&@%!] awesome. You can add mods and make the game go on all most forever. I'm about 12 hours into the game now and I might end up starting a new character because I'm leveling up too quick and only getting a +2 to +3 in strength.

Re: First time oblivion: so huuuuuuuuge
See, friend, Oblivion is even more expansive than you can understand now. What you ought to do is set yourself in a city, gather up all the quests there, whether it be Thieves' Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Fighter's Guild, Mage's Guild, or work as a freelance adventurer, and simply set off. I'd advise you avoid the fast travel system. Enjoy the game and immerse yourself within it to the best of your abilities, and don't worry about having a schedule. Take the game at a leisurely pace.
Turn on your (X-Box, PS3), run to Chorrol, help a drunk man unite with his brother, turn it off. Simple as that. You don't need to devote a life to it, but you really do want to, don't you?

I'd go with Armorer and Heavy Armor.
You can easily level Block when you want to. Heavy Armor and Armorer have great perks.

Picking the best stats for an ultra-powerful character was fun the first time, but now I just pick whatever combinations look fun.

1. repair and block are good skills for endurance, paying for training in them will also count towards the 10 increases needed for +5 but they both take ages to train
2. don't hit Lord Sheogorath, it's a silly idea
3. do fighters guild and mage guild recommendations first, they are mainly short quests which allow you to explore the land and meet people at your own pace
4. do the kvatch missions earlier on cos at high level saving Kvatch is very difficult. Other than that, do the main mission when you feel like it
5. the daedric artefact missions are all very good to get done if your level is high enough, look out for shrines around the land
