I realized why Lucien didn't feel right

Post by GenghisJohn »

Lucien is a really cool character idea, but I realized that the reason I never liked him was that he felt incomplete and flat. After plugging in my old Xbox (not the 360) and going through some old games, I came to the conclusion that Lucien reminded me too much of Garrett, of Thief fame, but doesn't really live up to the complexity and overall coolness that Garrett has (and a lot of that is from the voice acting ... I don't think there are too many voice actors better than Stephen Russell). I think that maybe Thief really ruined first person games for me. Oblivion has a lot to offer, but I don't think I'll think back to Oblivion 4 years from now.

Actually, after going back and playing some Thief, I realized that this was the game that I was hoping Oblivion would be like. Immersive, methodical, relentless, with a rich history that you have to be really careful if you want to pick up.

This is just a thought I had last night.

I agree, I've been playing Thief: Deadly Shadows alot lately. The voice acting for Garrett is great and you really get an in depth feel of the game, I wish more of the modern games had that feeling as well.

Speaking of Keeper Garrett, has anybody heard of any new Thief games PC Xbox or otherwise? Love sneaking, clobbering heads and loosing the odd arrow!!!!!! Apparently one of the techo's from Thief: The deadly Shadows helped with the stealth mechanics in Oblivion (Hence the fairly useless "light eye" or whatever that comes on when in sneak mode). I think the stealth aspects of Oblivion could learn alot from Thief: The Deadly Shadows. Maybe in Elder Scrolls 5 perhaps.

Personaly I prefer Theif 2: The Metal Age to Thief 3. I do wish that there was a weapon that I could use that wouldstun monsters when I was sneaking, kind of like the blackjack. Still Oblivion did a great job with the sneaking and Garrett is incredibly awesome, I actualy named my thief character after him.

I agree. Sneaking around with my Oblivion character made me jones for some sneaking through the city with Garrett, which is why I reconnected my XBox. Any game that can remind you of Thief is a well-done game.

Thief2 was awesome, but "Shalebridge Cradle" is one of the most unbelievable missions to ever appear in a video game.
