Skingrad castle crash

Post by pengster »

I have a crash problem at the Skingrad castle.
Everytime I go to the Skingrad castle Oblivion crashes. I'm doing a Thieves Guild quest called "Lost Histories". I'm suppose to go find Theranis who has been imprisoned in the Skingrad castle. When fast travel to the castle I appear outside the castle gates. I enter the castle and appear inside the castle standing at the gates and looking into the castle's courtyard. Everything is fine so far.

In order to get to the prison I need to enter the Dungeon, which is just to my right and a flight of stairs above. So I have to turn to my right to go up the stairs. In the middle of my turn, Oblivion would freeze and crash.

I could approach the stairs without turning around. I basically strafe right and go up the stairs. I could even walk backwards and using the map, approach the Dungeon door. But once I reach the door, Oblivion crashes.

I could even look straight down at my feet and turn 360 degrees without crashing. But I can't get to the dungeon to continue my quest. I could head straight into the castle keep without turning around to look at the dungeon door without problems.

I guess my Oblivion crashes when trying to load tiles around and/or the dungeon door. I wonder if anybody has experienced this problem and found a solution.

thx in advanced

Have you tried fast traveling to Skingrad, and then running up to the Castle?

re-enable specular lighting in the .ini :)
There once was a Prince named Mehrunes
Whose buttocks sounded sonorous tunes
‘Twas an odiferous song
People sang before long
They had enough of his full crescent moons.
