What determines your load order?
I had always thought it was the actual order of the game files as written in the morrowind.ini. Thus, GameFile0 loads first, etc. But apparently there is more to it than this, because my game files have not been loading in the same order as they appear in the morrowind ini file. Because of this, I suspect certain mods are not being loaded or are running into problems due to loading in the incorrect order. Any idea what this is all about?
Load Order question
Re: Load Order question
I think it is based on the date on the mod's file, with the newest mod being loaded last (though all .esm files are loaded before the .esp files). I could be entirely wrong, though, since I try very hard to avoid mod conflicts unless I am trying to undo something that MPP "fixed" in a way I don't like.

Moved to MOD-Morrowind.

Ah, I see. In that case it still doesn't make much sense to me. I installed around 60 mods (mostly all texture replacers/bugfixes, as I try to keep my game as close to vanilla as possible), but it's only loading about 20-25 of them as far as I can tell. The thing is, I installed them all on a clean installation of morrowind GOTY, without opening morrowind at all before getting my mods in order, and I haven't added/removed any mods since. So unless I misunderstand your meaning, this shouldn't be happening as they were all loaded on the same date. Is there any way I can edit the dates of the files? And if so, does this mean I would have to make the date of each file correspond to its intended load order?

Sorry for posting this thread in the morrowind forum, I suppose it's probably happier here.

Re: Load Order question
Wyremash allows you to change a mod's date, thus being able to change your load order.

We can't bring it back, ancient wisdom is lost, and atlantis must emerge, as it sank.
Re: Load Order question
Okay, a little more detail, then, now that my brain has more caffeine running through it.
Basically, a mod's date of creation is listed in the file. This isn't the date that you personally added/downloaded the mod, but the last time the creator edited it. If you are playing the original release of the game, Mods will always be newer than the base game (unless they were made before TB/BM, but that's unlikely to cause interference except for things the expansions edited).
The Steam version, however, updated the release date of the files to match the release on Steam...which causes issues for all mods created before that date. I believe MCP automatically changes the date of the Steam Version.
The other issue is that some of your mods might be trying to overwrite the same textures or otherwise fixing the same objects. For that reason, I'd suggest installing as few bugfix mods as possible, such as MCP with the Morrowind Patch Compilation (which will fix most of the major issues in the game).
