In Oblivion, it was the Mage and the Thief.

In Skyrim, the Warrior and the Mage. My smith character built his house at Lakeview Manor, just down the road from the Guardian Stones. He usually had the Warrior Stone going, but when he was trying to level Enchanting, he'd run up the road and tap the Mage Stone, then seek his Lover's Comfort before grasping the Arcane Enchanter.

If you've got the Aetherial Crown, what's your favorite Standing Stone combination? I'd say the Lord Stone would be a good general second Stone effect.
