This is my new Geek Machine. It is purely for games (and later to be for art as well, likely). And hopefully I have laid out the specs correctly, as I'm new to the whole computer building thing:

Processor: Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz Quad-Core
Memory: 16GB G.SKILL
Hard Drive: 1TB
Video Card: EVGA 02G-P4-3660-KR GeForce GTX 660
Monitor: ASUS 23.6" Widescreen LCD Monitor
Speakers/Headphones: LS21 2.1 Stereo Speaker System
Keyboard: Some gaming keyboard whose brand escapes me (pretty great though - will update this when I figure out which one it is)
Mouse: Some buttonless, endless scroll wireless mouse
Operating System: Windows 7 64 Bit
Motherboard: ASRock X79 Extreme6 LGA 2011 Intel X79 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Computer case: Corsair Special Edition White Graphite Series 600T Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

I have to say, I love my case. I bought it purely based on aesthetics (the thing is sleek and beautiful with the black and white design, and has interchangeable mesh or glass parts - I have the mesh up), but found it has a ton of space, lots of cooling fans, and really sweet blue LED lights. Definitely one of my favorite parts of the desktop!

Dude, don't be hatin' on my mouse. I love it. However, I do need a gaming mouse, but I have to say, there's no delay and it's awesome. The lack of buttons does take getting used to, though.

Heck yeah - one of the best laptops out IMO

And ya - the cool kids have Windows 8 :D I'm on 7 on this computer but my computer I use as a gaming rig I've been using 8 since Betafish (build 8250?). I Was running preview 8400 and lost another hard drive one friday. I was near a colleague's place and asked him to throw 8 on a bootable USB key for me real quick. When I booted into it I thought ... this looks a little different? Turns out it was the day Windows 8 retail came out  (we get licenses to all of the main microsoft products with an annual subscription with MS technet). Been running Windows 8 Pro 64bit since then. I carry a bootable USB drive for it with my car keys

It's more than you'll ever use, yeah. Unless you decide to start computing for NASA in your spare time.

Really just a computer for schoolwork, but very curious what I could run.

System Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
System Model: Satellite L675D
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.130104-1431)
Processor: AMD Turion(tm) II P560 Dual-Core Processor (2 CPUs), ~2.5GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3836MB RAM
Card name: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series
Display Memory: 1914 MB
Dedicated Memory: 252 MB
Shared Memory: 1661 MB

So, you think I could run Morrowind or Oblivion at a decent rate?

The wife and I recently bought a HP Envy, mostly for her school work. But looking at the specs, Ithink it should run skyrim OK. Does anyone else run this rig? How does it perform? What are its limitations? What suggestions do you have for making it "ultra capable". Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It will run Skyrim on High pretty well, but Medium is recommended for smoother gameplay. Also graphic intensive mods aren't recommended as it will bring the game to a crawl framerate-wise.

Thanks Musicman! The screen will be the only difference. I plan on playing thru my 55" mitsubishi TV. I've played Skyrim and Oblivion on it with my PS3. Sittin up close just makes it MORE imersive.

Too much, but I've been saving up for a long time and I just got an awesome job so I figured I deserved it. $2500. I could have got more bang for my buck had I gone with two cheaper graphics cards, but I prefer a single gpu since it allows me to go in for SLI later on if I need more juice (that and there's only 1 16x PCIe slot).
Moeboid wrote:Damn, that thing's a beast! I assume you also have at least one standard HDD in there for storage as well, yeah?
Actually, no, not yet. Like I said, I've been wanting to do this for years so when the finish line came into sight I got a little impatient and cut out some cruft. I do have a 3tb external (bought a long time ago) that I use for storing most things, however, so it isn't like I'm just keeping everything on the ssd. Eventually I hope to get a 60gb ssd and a few hdd's that I can set up in RAID 5, using the small ssd as a cache drive. But that's not going to be for a bit because I kind of spent a lot on this thing already and I really don't have any more money to throw at it.
