Announcement: Subforum Rules and Moderation Update

Post by Eltee »

An announcement from the mod squad

Hello, everyone!

After a great deal of discussion, we have decided to make some changes in the way the RP subforum is operated.

The RP subforum will be moderated more attentitively than it has been in the past. In particular, our TPM Eltee will be taking the reins as a regulator of the subforum.

This change is also being accompanied by several changes to the subforum rules. Please read through them carefully, as it is your responsibility to know, understand and follow them.

The rule changes include an end to the 'one RP per DM' rule. This doesn't reflect a lessening in the seriousness of the issue that neccesitated it: There will be several other rules enforced to find a better solution.

-All new RPs must be first vetted by Eltee after exhaustive discussion. If you want to create an RP, PM him a finished OP and be prepared to discuss it, and justify your decisions. Any RP posted without a go-ahead will be immediately locked.

-All DMs with RPs currently in motion will be contacted on a monthly basis for an RP checkup by Eltee. Anyone who doesn't reply for 7 days will have their RPs locked until they are able to reply. Hopefully, DMs and him will be able to meaningfully discuss the future of their RPs, and ensure that their responsibility to their players is not forgotten.

Finally, the squad would like to remind everyone of another rule: The one regarding inappropriate conduct. Utilise the fade-to-black technique, or do not post that portion of the RP publicly. This can bring down serious heat on the forum as a whole, as well as those of us who are trying to keep the gears oiled. Be respectful, and play it safe.

So what rules will be replacing the one RP per DM rule? Or hasn't that been determined yet?

The two rules listed here are the ones that will take the place of the one RP rule, namely that Eltee is the final authority when it come to what RPs can start and when. They have to be approved by him and they will be checked on monthly. He's already updated the Roleplay Subforum Guidelines and Rules so go ahead and check them out. The additions can be found under Creating a Roleplay. We are very excited that Eltee has stepped up and taken this responsibility and are looking forward to seeing a Roleplay subforum that is more enjoyable than ever for everyone! Thank you, Eltee!

You still have serious requirements as a DM, so make sure you read the updated rules.

Or else!

I'm all for new rules and stuff, though I have a question. What are Eltee's little chats with prospective DM's going to be about ? Is he not going to allow an RP to start because it doesn't appeal to him and he thinks it may not appeal to others, or is he just going to correct Grammer and Spelling ?

Also it doesn't say anywhere that DM's aren't allowed more than one RP at a time so I assume that rules gone ?

Eltee is vehemently opposed to blocking people from starting RPs. He will offer suggestions to the DM on how to make sure their RP will be as successful as possible. That said, he will lock a thread that he has not cleared beforehand, although the lock will only be until he has been able to discuss the RP with the DM.

As for your second question:

So the rule doesn't really change much, the same people can still start the same RP's they just have to declare to Eltee that they are starting it first and listen to his suggestion. Since these are only suggestion's, your not forced to follow them, you can completely ignore them if you want, right ?

Eltee is a great DM and anybody who decides to ignore his advice is an idiot in my book.

That said, he is in complete control of the RP sub-forum now. What he says goes.

The point of the rules are to dissuade people from overextending themselves and abandoning old RPs in favour of new ones.
Don't worry, there's no way that I will reject an RP purely based on my dislike for the subject matter.

A lot of my questions will be based around how you plan to pace the RP, how long you will expect it to last; in other words, the mechanical aspects of its operation.

Could be far worse. Better than that one RP only rule. Doesn't mean I agree with having all these rules in the first place. I think you should just trust GMs.

This seems to be a pretty fool-proof system. I like it better than the other rule sets. :D

No one doesn't trust GMs, but it's a good way to guide those who might have problems with following through by giving them a place to talk about what works and doesn't.

Made for RPers, by RPers. Don't knock it until you try it. I'm sure we can all trust Eltee to do a great job. Now he gets to help me with my RP. Huzzah!

If you wanted his help then why didn't you just ask for it, instead of making it a rule for everyone. ;)

We've trusted GMs in the past and Tyranny happened. Both of them. :P

We're trying to do right by GMs and players as well. Having someone who will periodically check on you to make sure you're doing okay isn't that intrusive, neither is sharing your outline with a respected DM before showing the world.

Give Eltee a chance. I think you'll find it's not as encroaching as you think it is.

Yeah, Eltee is cool. As I said it isn't overly annoying. Could be worse, Eltee could be evil and go mad with power. And I doubt that will happen.

Seriously, though, guys. You guys have any concerns about anything at all, sling me a PM and let me know, if you need help with anything, if you need an ear to talk off about RP issues, I'm totally at your disposal. :)

I like it. It's pretty flexible, while also not allowing people to just make RP's left and right. But one thing I would criticize is I think it would be beneficial to have perhaps 2 RP-Masters (totally a new term) rather than just 1. It's not that I doubt Eltee's abilities or anything (please don't hurt me! :P ), it's just I feel that at some points in time (during the summer mainly, when I find that the RP subforum was bustling with activity), the RP-Master might have tons on his plate. Also, if he goes on vacation or mysteriously vanishes due to a long term power outage or something, he could have a wingman to count on. Just my two cents ;)
