I think I've seen people say that it's supposed to have an effect on the random loot you get and the type/number of monsters you face etc as well.

I've never raised Luck. I figured why raise Luck +1, when I can raise something else +5. Plus, since it has no benifit once you start getting Skills at 100, why bother. I could help some at lower levels.

Luck is more helpfull than you think, just to see what it does I duped like 20 fortify luck potions and hit up robbers glenn cave, I went through it using 3 potions before each chest I opened which brought my luck up to approx 110 and I found necklace of swords and 2 mundane rings all within about 3 trips to the cave. Having high luck makes item finds considerably better tried and true. Give it a try its pretty cool finding elite items left and right.
Aparently how luck works is right when you open up a chest the game checks you luck and makes a list of all the items that fit the category then randomely generates the items.

I thought random items in chests were fixed when you enter an area?

That's been my observation from the times that I have restored from a save and repeated a clear out of an area. I haven't done it many times, but every time I have, the chests have had the same items as the first time I've tried.

It's only before I enter an area through a door that has the "load" screen, rather than just swinging open, that I can get diff items. Or poss even only when I go through an "Auto Save" door.

Maybe I just haven't tried it enough times? The main times I've done it is with getting my Master Alchemy equip from Umbra, maybe boss chests are different?

I have tried boosting my Luck before going into an area though, and you def seem to get a better class of loot!

Good point. Good idea too. I'll give that a try, Thanks Huntox.

Using potions though, would actually support the "why raise Luck +1, when I can raise something else +5". Since you can Max Luck with a potion.

THE MEHRUNES RAZOR!

luk determines how often u 1hit-kill wih the dagger.
so a high luk is nice when u have that dagger.
A single dedicated mind can cause about the greatest destruction. That, or goblins, goblins work too.
