Child forums
Child forums
I think for the boards like Oblivion, you should have child boards for more specific talk ie quests, NPCs, glitches, items etc it would make the boards more organized

Ok let's pretend for a moment that I am a normal person who doesn't check these forums 10 times a day, and that it's been a whole day since the last time I checked for new posts. Instead of seeing that there are new posts in 4 forums, there are new posts in 12 forums. If all I care about is Oblivion, I've still got to click through 4 or 5 forums to see if there are any threads I care about, instead of just clicking once and seeing all relevant posts.sanga282 wrote:thats why forums have a bold feature when new posts are on child forums
I don't see the benefit of having things more "organized." Most people play one game or maybe two, but it's not like some people think "I only care about threads that relate to Oblivion NPCs, and I don't want to see any threads that might be about Oblivion quests." No, either they play the game, in which case all game-related posts are relevant to them, or they don't, in which case they want to avoid all of that game's posts. The way that the forums are set up now allows them to do exactly that.
Also, a lot of threads slowly move from one topic to the next. What would you do with a thread that talks about NPCs, quests, and loot? Where would a thread like that go? Would it have to be split into a lot of little threads, just for the sake of organization? Moderating that would be a nightmare.
If all you cared about was oblivion then quite rightly so glance through the boards, but what if ,lets say, you were only particularly interested in Quests for oblivion you have to trawl through a tonne of other threads to see what you want. If there was a child forum devoted to that then it would be quick as a flash. And as for something like that you would put it in the main priority of it, so if it were a topic about a quest where you had to loot an NPC it would go in the quests. Or if you wernt sure there would have to be a general oblivion section such as there is now for the child boards to existDeandra wrote:Ok let's pretend for a moment that I am a normal person who doesn't check these forums 10 times a day, and that it's been a whole day since the last time I checked for new posts. The Forums were set up as an extension of the UESP Wiki.
The Administrator is the only one who could do this.
He doesn't actually post here, as he is busy working on the Wiki.
He allows the Moderators to maintain the Forums.
He would change things if the Moderators recommend that it is needed. ...which in this case, they do not.
If it is not broke, don't fix it.
Thus, it will not happen.

I am not saying fix, amend. Also i think perhaos there should be a tutorials section for the modding of the games it would be more helpful than people asking for assistanceJeff wrote:The Forums were set up as an extension of the UESP Wiki.

Most of the ideas you are talking about are already discussed in the wiki pages. Modding for both Morrowind and Oblivion have multiple pages dedicated to it. There is no reason to fill up the forums with a bunch of Stickies or announcements linked to wiki pages. I can actually see where your coming from with the organization of things, as I am a very systematic person myself; but here it would just clutter things up even more. When I look at the forums the way they are, I think there are a few that are unnecessary as is and could be removed or combined somehow; but I never look at them and think about adding more subforums.

Well geez, who knew the moderators had a life? I mean, they are here to SERVE US aren't they? God! That's what the caste system is all about!
I have a very simple idea to fix this, though, I'm not advocating its execution. You would have to choose on a list what your thread is about (Quests, Mods, loot, etc.) and then post it. It would go straight to the Oblivion forum section but, there would be a bar at the top right that you could click on that says "Show threads only about <topic>" and it would show only the threads in which the creators selected that specific topic from the list. There, problem solved. If anyone would like to second this then be my guest, but I'm not fighting for it.

If at all possible, change the search engine similar to the one at the bethsoft DOT com forum. There you can search for what you're looking for in exactly the board you need. Just a suggestion and I'm sure this forum works just fine the way it is.
[(Not to change the subject)...one thing I really want to say and haven't found the right thread is thank you for the wiki pages!! I'm doing the Knights of the Nine quest and couldn't have gotten as far as I have without the pages, thank you all for making them! Please disregard this part of the post in order to stay on topic.]
