sneak

i know everyone might have already thoughtof this but i got my sneak up to expert by tieing my shoe laces to my 360 controller(causing my character to keep moving) while i was in jail in sneak mode. I came into the room every once in a while to click ok for the leveling up.

Done that too. Then the first bandit kicked my ass so badly that I started a new character.
7 levels in sneak alone, increase in agility only, suddenly you have a level 1 character that can sneak well in a world of level 7 enemies.

If you also max out conjuration as a minor skill you could send a Dremora lord after that 7th level bandit!

For how much gold? We're talking sub-lvl10 here...?
These spells are expensive, and gold is scarce early in the game.

The tall guy at Bruma Mages guild sells it, I don't remember for how much.

As to gold, well, you are a thief after all...
