Distress of mankind. Threat of Elvenkind? Seems to make sense there. Then again Alnevar, you could be completely misguided but I see where you are coming from

Why not? At least the option for the kids to follow you to help collect alchemy ingredients or help with gear in some way. I think that would deepen the family aspect the developers put in as well as bring in extra help. Just an idea. I was hoping for our pc to be able to train followers like shown in the game jam...but at this point, it does not appear likely.MathiasFlynnias wrote:Take the kids.. to the park.. or lake? What? Why?

Re: Your Hopes For the Next DLC?
I could see a shout happening. It wouldn't actually damage terrain. I see it as first word is a small tremor staggering all enemies close to the Dovahkiin. Second word increases radius and does a small amount of damage. Third word increases radius again, does around 80-20 damage depending on closeness to the Dovahkiin, and enemies close enough would actually fall over, imitating Unrelenting Force but they don't fly anywhere, just fall over. Small terain damage such as cracks that fade over time could also appear to add realism.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:An actual earthquake would be nearly divine level magic. The Psijics could do something like that with great collective effort, but I doubt a single mage of any type could. Perhaps a powerful Shout, but that's it. It would be game breaking though. How can you generate an earthquake without damaging the game terrain? It's not feasible from a game design standpoint. Not in this type of world.Lynx wrote:No. Because summoning an earthquake to make all your enemies fall to the ground sounds way more fun than tossing fireballs at them.Pilaf The Defiler wrote: Why? To summon Captain Planet or something?
Re: Your Hopes For the Next DLC?
I really think they need a DLC on Atmora. There is so much lore surrounding the place and I think this would be the only game it would make sense to do a DLC about it. This would also work perfectly with expanding the role of giants, as they are supposed to be originally from Atmora like the Nords. Either leading an expedition to present-day Atmora or traveling back in time to when Atmora was thriving would be awesome.

Well what do you think about this?
The loose translations for the jars are:
Destruction - Betrayal/misguidedness - Catastrophe/Natural Disaster - Distress
Constraint of freedom - Transportation - Dreams, the unknown, possibility of loss
Distress of mankind
Force of destruction - Controlled crisis leading to completion/Natural Disaster or catastrophe - Constraint of freedom
Opposition of Joy and Sorrow opposed or augmented by "Isa", or represent duality of good and evil?
Now.. of course there always exists the likelyhood of reading into these things...
The first one seems to describe dawnguard in its entirety. Destruction (you cant "kill" vampires), Betrayal/ misguidedness (Harkon and Valencia's actions), Catastrophe/natural disaster (blocking out the sun), Distress (Serana)
The second one.
Constraint of freedom (Miirak is mind controlling) - Transportation (go to Solstheim) - Dreams, the unknown, possibility of loss (When you are in the books you are "transparent and unmoving" according to NPCs, and you go to Apocrypha, and if you die in the book you simply get kicked out of the book without dying)
Tell me that doesnt seem crazy....
What jars are you talking about?

It'd be neat if they could bring back some of the enemies from past renditions. Rehashing or not, fighting Xivilai (strictly as an example) on Skyrim's engine might provide some good entertainment. I also like the idea of visiting Nova Orsinium, or Pale Pass.
EDIT: I like the Atmoran idea, as well.

Three words. Psijiic Order Robes.
Honestly while I like the possibility of going to Alinor, I would rather it be it's own game rather than a small DLC, since I have a nagging feeling that of we go there now, the next game will be ANOTHER human centric game and province.

Re: Your Hopes For the Next DLC?
I would absolutely LOVE a DLC in Atmora. The idea I always get in my mind is a kind of a split in civilization, between those who still inhabit the decrepit ancient regions not yet swallowed by the ice, ad those who have embraced the chilling of their world and have learned to love on/in the advancing ice sheets.
I imagine the boat coming up to these massive Nordic cities... Same architecture as Forsworn Redoubts, but on a grandiose scale... Great arches, plazas, palaces, buildings, but all falling into ruin and inhabited by the dregs of society. The advancing ice would be an omnipresent concern. And, when you go up north onto the trackless white wastes of the ice fields/glaciers, you find those who abandoned their ancient dwellings living in a starkly contrasted reality... Instead of grandiose, but decrepit, crumbling grey stone and rotten wood and ancient weapons, you would find a 'young' people... Jubilant and full of life, adapted to their environment. Instead of the great crumbling arches of a once great civilization, snug wooden cottages, a merry rosewood shade against the white, glowing yellow windows, curls of smoke from the chimeneys. Weapons, plain, unadorned, but good, bright, new steel.
I dunno. That's what I think Atmora will be. I dunno how the Falmer/Dwemer fit in.

Re: Your Hopes For the Next DLC?
Atmora sounds great and all, and would definately be interesting to explore, but in the scheme of things i dont think it will happen. DB is getting criticism for being to close to skyrim in environment because of the snowy regions (not my personal critique, can never get enough snow regions for me) so i think if another area is added, i think it will be a different environment. I mean, we just visited a snowy island, visiting another would be a little.... unimaginative? I wish DB wouldve taken us to Atmora rather than Solstheim (i love solstheim though obviously) but it wouldve made a bit more sense i think, and not so repetitive... but i guess thats a discusson for another time.

Re: Your Hopes For the Next DLC?
I could imagine Atmora being very monotonous, being solely icey and all that.

I'm a bit confused; is Atmora populated by any man/mer/beast race? I thought there was a mass-migration to Skyrim a long time ago.

Mass exodus does't neccesarily mean 'absolutely everyone.'
In any case, that's my own personal fantasy for what it could be.

Very true, but I'd imagine there wouldn't be grand civilizations. If anyone is there, they're probably tribal and savage in nature.Eltee wrote:Mass exodus does't neccesarily mean 'absolutely everyone.'

Re: Your Hopes For the Next DLC?
The lore is kind of unclear. It is said there was some kind of disease that plagued Atmora and forced the Nords still living there to migrate. The last ship to arrive in Skyrim from Atmora apparently was mostly full of dead bodies. But the fact is, we can't know for sure if anyone/thing is still living in Atmora because no one has traveled to it (at least from what we know) since the last ship arrived in Skyrim a long time ago. It is quite possible (and likely would be a reality in a DLC) that isolated pockets of Nords escaped whatever was killing off everyone else, and still survive on the island today.HisK wrote:I thought it was 100% empty.Witchery wrote:I'm a bit confused; is Atmora populated by any man/mer/beast race? There was a horrible plague that made Atmora uninhabitable and killed everyone that did not leave.…

Ah, that makes much more sense! Yes, this is plausible, but I'd personally like some more expansion on what we already know of Tamriel.Eltee wrote: What I meant was, a collapsed civilization living in the ruins of the old city.
Personally, I want a Reach-related DLC, that encompasses both the eastern half in Skyrim and the western half of the Reach in High Rock. I know, it probably won't happen, but I'd love this.

Mmh. As would I. <3
Re: Your Hopes For the Next DLC?
From Pocket Guide to The Empire:
"Expeditions to Atmora in modern times describe a place of permanent winter, with little life and no sign of human habitation. Whatever population did not succeed in fleeing to Tamriel doubtless succumbed to the ever-worsening climate many centuries ago."
Personally, I think this book is making an assumption which could be easily corrected in a DLC, but that might just be me. We don't know how extensive these "expeditions" are, and we don't know how long ago the expeditions took place. Like I said earlier, there could easily be pockets of isolated Nedes still living. After all, Septimus survived inside of a glacier for many years. And he wasn't even a strong nord

Emperor Tiber Septim purported himself to be of Atmora. It's possible that, while parts of Atmora are uninhabitable, other parts have (at least) Skaal-like settlements.

Re: Your Hopes For the Next DLC?
Your personal fantasy, sadly, does not coincide with what we're told by the PGE, which states that relatively recent expeditions to Atmora reveal only permafrost and ancient frozen corpses. It's a dead, dead land. The last boats of half-starved refugees set sail from it very early in the First Era. On the very last boat to arrive, something like 90% of the passengers were already dead. Something changed the climate up there.Eltee wrote:Mass exodus does't neccesarily mean 'absolutely everyone.'
In any case, that's my own personal fantasy for what it could be.
This naturally throws a rather large monkey wrench into the "Talos of Atmora" claim. Talos Stormcrown - if that is his real name - would have certainly been born many centuries after the very last living settlers left Atmora. It's likely that his nickname was either hyperbole or there's something else going on here we don't fully understand, like time travel.
Two interesting notes on Atmora - "Varieties of Faith" mentions the Aldmer believe it to be "Altmora", one of their ancestral lands. It was supposedly lost to Men long ago. This is supported by other sources as well.
It was in this land that old Herma-Mora antagonized the Nords and tried to trick them many times. Is it just a coincidence that the island shares his name? There's more here than meets the eye.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.
