go against herma-mora in dragonborn?
Is there any way to beat dragonborn's main quest without the help of hermaeus?

It annoys me when Beth do something like this for a questline. From what I've heard Hermaoues Mora is real dick in dragonborn, and for anyone who reolplays a semi-decent character who isn't a psychopath you have to start making up excuses to help him. Would rather a less evil way to defeat Miraak.

You don't need to be bad to defeat Miraak. You are still able to resist Mora and appear to not be influenced by him permanently.. but the true power Mora holds VS the dragonborn(s) is up in the air.

Would it not add more depth to your character, being forced to do something semi-bad to prevent worse?Mr.Argonian wrote:It annoys me when Beth do something like this for a questline. There are other more preferable ways of adding depth to the character. This one is just genuinely horrible...

At least they didn't let us cop out of it. This way you have to have a stain on your honor.

In LotR, Aragorn still had to commune with the Army of the Dead in order to stand any hope of victory later on. Point being, victories for good characters aren't always squeaky-clean.

Re: go against herma-mora in dragonborn?
TBF, the army of the dead are a bunch of cursed warriors who said they would help Elendil, Anarion (sp?) and Isildur, and the elves in the war against Sauron when he had a physical form, but they never turned up, so Isildur cursed them with undeath to hold them to their oath, which Aragorn holds forfilled after the two minor battles at Umbar, (the city of the Corsair pirates whose ships he used) Harlond (the docks of Minas Tirith) and then the battle at Pelenor fields outside Minas Tirith.
Aragorn summoning them was actually doing them a favour, and wasn't really as it's shown in the films, where they are depicted as a bunch of malevolent undead spirits.
There were actually a fair few attempts to get the army of the dead to fight for someone, but none suceeded, as only Isildur or an heir of him could do it.

Not all situations are win vs. loss. Some are loss vs. an even worse loss.
Actually this had all the makings of an excellent story...you have to make concessions during the entire story. You are bested on a few occasions. You have to make decisions that you don't want to in order to succeed. All of these things breed emotional connect. That you wish you could have screwed over HM should point to that.

Re: go against herma-mora in dragonborn?
Not neccesarily. It all depends on what you classify as "winning". As for Mora, he IS the lord of forbidden knowlege and all secrets he can find. In his quest for the oghma infinium, he says something along the lines of " how did septimus just end up out there, and how is it that you just happened to stumble along to find him." His quest is even a part of the main quest, which, to me, shows just how powerful he really is. That quest even set a precedent for him replacing his servents, just look what happened to Septimus.CBR JGWRR wrote:There is always a way to win. Except against the Demon of knowledge...

Re: go against herma-mora in dragonborn?
I already know that. The latter part of my post wasn't in jest.
Mora is also involved in the dawnguard questline for the same reason.
The more I think about this, the more I think our Dovahkiin will become a plaything of Mora, much to my annoyance. I want our dovahkiin to be as his/her father Akatosh made them, to mildly mis-quote Paarthurnax.
Which does not involve Mora.

I honestly think the Dovahkiin already is his plaything. Just look what he made us do in DB.CBR JGWRR wrote:I already know that. The latter part of my post wasn't in jest.quote]

I forget which black book it is but there is a puddle of black goo where what seems to be mora's eye pokes out. Believe me when I say I stood there punching it for a solid 20 minutes. I personally wanted a handicap fight of two dragonborn's vs the floating eye-hole.

Given what the Dragonborn is, truly, you don't have to fear Mora. He should fear you. Esspecially when he gives away so much power.

I don't fear him. Being highly annoyed at him however...
All he does give away is the oghma infinium, the last word of bend will and a few temporal benefits. Not that much.

Bethesda's not gonna end the Dovahkiin's story as Miraak part deux.. I wouldn't worry about that.
