Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
Now, on the topic of Divayth Fyr, if he was on the exodus, then he was a Chimer at some point, so he might had kept the Chimeri lifespan, if it was longer.

We can't bring it back, ancient wisdom is lost, and atlantis must emerge, as it sank.

Heritage-wise, yes. But they aren't physically half-elven. They keep the race of the mother.Br3admax wrote:Bretons aren't half-elves, but someone who is confirmed half-elf is.Witchery wrote:May have traits from the father. I'm not ignoring you, I just think I'm going off-topic, and we aren't really debating different things. I'm just wording it wrong.
I think orcs die really young, even naturally. They are cursed after all.

Personally, I think it depends on your opinion of young. We haven't really seen an Orc die of natural causes, but the ones in Skyrim that seek death seem quite old -- probably 50 or 60 judging on their graying hair, but the fact that they're still "able-bodied." They could probably at least live until 70 or 80 naturally.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
Do we know how Daedric/God given curses or blessings affect someone's lifespan? From what I've seen:
Werecreatures - No noticeable changes except maybe a tendency to end violently. The change possible takes a physical toll according to Physicalities of Werewolves.
Vampire - Virtually immortal. Really undead.
Hagraven - Either immortal or extremely long lived. How do you tell if they are aging?
Nightingale - Hard to say but it seems the same.
Afflicted - ???
Monstermer - Bosmer who conduct The Wild Hunt seem to live until killed

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
Nightingales are neither immortal nor particularly longeval; in fact, an account by an insider mentions two of them ageing and dying like normal people. The guardians we meet at the Twilight Sepulcher are the spirits of deceased Nightingales bound by contract to serve Nocturnal beyond death.

The long-lived Nightingales mentioned were Dunmer(Dralsi and Karliah), specifically descended from Barenziah(Who has already been established as possessing of an obnoxiously long life even for her race).

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
i do think some are trying to play down the lifespans of elves. they are long lived fact, how long we dont know, but there are elves in skyrim that go past 200 years and we have no clue how old is that frail altmer in falkreath. He even served in the great war.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
In folklore elves could die of heartbreak, maybe that is what happened to the falkreath priest? Joking but I think he is so frail because of the guilt he feels about it and it has just aged him prematurely? Or he really is just old as dirt...

the falkreath priest of Arkay (Rundil?), probably was already old at the time of the great war, because he was already a master conjurer. Said Knowlege surelly takes years of study.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
I was looking for new information on ESO when I came across this from the "Ask Us Anything Variety Pack 4" and immediately thought of this thread. I imagine some of you have seen this and some of you will disagree with it because it's from a Zenimax representative, but I thought I'd put it out here anyway.
Source:http://elderscrollsonline.com/en/news/p ... ety-pack-4Q: Something that is in big debate on every single forum I've seen as of late is the life expectancy of the different races of Tamriel for roleplaying purposes. Can you please elaborate and give us some numbers to work with for each race or at least the Elven races (Altmer, Bosmer, and Dunmer)? – By Nathan Payne / Andrew Hudson
A: Elves live two to three times as long as humans and the “beast-races” (Orcs, Khajiiti, Argonians). A 200-year-old Elf is old; a 300-year-old Elf is very, very old indeed. Anyone older than that has prolonged his or her lifespan through powerful magic.

Why did the dragonhunters of old burry the dragons whole?

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
That or they live for a challenge, they don't really dwell much on their future but rather their present. To them it may not be how long you live, but how you live it? Seems to be a trend with alot of real world cultures>_> though orcs do seek danger and that can take it's toll. The same can be said to those that hide in cities away from daily dangers>_> they may not die in battle but their body yearns for excitement. Very much like a caged animal>_> free and it can live to the fullest but die unpleasant. Also maybe Malacath provides something to those true to him, and the rest are actually the cursed<_< stray from the path and not even your father can help you=__= still they do seem to be the most unique compared to the rest of elves

They were cursed if we remember the Nordic story... Thy were trying to curse the Nords with shorter life spans but it was turned back on them.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
Well in general the whole race was cursed long before>_> though that was the creation of their race. As for the nordic tale>_> I can see some truth in that. Then again it also talked of how the nords lived just as long as the mers, yet most human races have short life spans<_< though retain a stronger build

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
I suspected as much about the beast races. Them living roughly as long as humans, that is. There's nothing suggesting they have drastically short lifespans. There's one throwaway line about how Orcs are cursed with shorter lives, but keep in mind they're a type of Elf so a shorter life for them could be average for a man.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
Young, but mature. Probably has more responsibilities than an Elf or Human at that age due to the nature of the Orc family unit and larger society. Orcs are under a lot of pressure to provide for their tribe. Males act either as Chieftans, hunters or warriors*. Almost every young Orc male and most females would have joined the Legion at some point. A 26 year old would probably still be doing his tour.Kahroo wrote:So if I making a Orc character for a RP. *As a rule of thumb. There's a place in Orc society for farmers and miners as well, but those are gender neutral professions. Warrior is, too, to a certain extent. Smiths and Healers tend to be women.

Thanks! And yeah he lost his family/tribe in the Great War. He just now roams Skyrim. And he's apparently blind too. But he uses Magic to see.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:Young, but mature. Re: Lifespan of all Races in TES
That actually wouldn't be a terribly uncommon ability for an Orc. Shamanism and the magical arts are not as frowned upon in Orc society as in Nord or Redguard society. They're probably the most spiritual and magical of the three warrior races. The Wise Woman is usually the tribe's shaman or spiritual leader but a handful of powerful casters in Skyrim are male Orcs, including the leader of a spellsword band and the librarian at the College.
As an added bonus, individuals with magical ability tend to live longer than those without. An Orc who is very good with magic to the point he can use it to see for him would probably outlive his less magically inclined brothers and sisters.
