If I'm playing as an Altmer, or a Khajiit, or basically anything other than a nord, I want some of the local nords to be [&@%!] about it. If rascism is one of the themes in the Elder Scrolls (at least in Skyrim), I want it to show more in the main quest, if not the game overall. It doesn't need to impact gameplay, just reactions from other characters.
I hope this doesn't make me sound rascist, it'd just be interesting to see.
well thats more of a game problem, and not much of a storyline problem
EDIT: nevermind, im a dumbass read it too fast ...

I think it applies to the story, even if it's just a minor difference.
EDIT: Yeah, I meant that I'd want the local nords to be outraged if the hero they've been waiting for and telling stories about for generations just happened to be an elf.

i agree. my brother played as an Altmer, and i watched his fight with Murmlniir to see what the Whiterun Guards would say about him ... and yet , no difference ?!

This. It's kind of an immersion breaker when racism is such a big part of Skyrim, yet everyone pretty much acts the same regardless of your race. I know it couldn't be anything too radical but it should somehow be acknowledged.
I completed the main quest as an altmer mage donning Thalmor robes. It was like all those things the traditional nords don't appreciate in one package. Yet nobody made a comment about it.
I recently played a Dunmer character and went to Windhelm expecting more, but there are hardly any differences in the way people treat you. The grey quarter hardly seem to care, while Suvaris Atheron still asked me if I hated dark elves for some reason. Rolf Stone-Fist doesn't initiate a brawl with you or follow you or do anything differently, and you can just walk wherever you like unchallenged. It's that kind of detail that makes the dark elf troubles in Windhelm feel tacked on; I can understand having to talk or earn your way forward as a dunmer there, but instead no-one seems to care what race you are.
If anything you get more of a reaction as an argonian, but even then it's more the case of the other argonians being more friendly, rather than any issues with you wandering around the city unchallenged.
I'm not so sure about the lack of racism from the main quest, since lots of people don't seem to realise who the dragonborn is, even if you go around shouting all the time. Even after Alduin is defeated a bunch of the guards still wonder if they're the dragon born! I'd at least have expected Ulfric to be much more hostile with a non-Nord during Season Unending.
