Rootmars wrote:On it's own, I think the game will be amazing, but I was really hoping this would be the second coming of San Andreas, which after catching up on all the latest news it clearly is not, so i'm a bit disappointed. One quote from the Dan Houser interview in particular really bothered me, "The five PS2 games are one universe, and this is the high definition universe, so they don't co-exist". What the hell. To me, that's like if Bethesda made oblivion and skyrim from the ground up, and everything from morrowind on backwards was disregarded as its own separate continuity. It's saying, hey fans of all the older gta games, those are all non canon for all future games in the series. That ticks me off.
I think it actually makes sense. Every GTA the cities evolve a lot. Liberty City in GTA IV looked nothing like Liberty City in Liberty City Stories and Los Santos will look a lot different than Los Santos in San Andreas. How would you explain that story wise?

And I think you should not compare it to TES. GTA isn't that lore-driven as The Elder Scrolls.

Yeah there is a universe for each section of the timeline. Like how San Andreas, Vice City, GTA 3, were all part of one era. GTA 4 era has GTA 4, Chinatown Wars, and the DLC for GTA 4. Now it will be in the new GTA 5 era. It makes sense, and allows for cities to be changed.

I think GTA 4, Episodes from Liberty City and 5 are in the same canon.

im not excited about this at all , i dont care any more ...

after GTA IV i lost interest in the Grand theft auto franchise ..

i have no idea why they decided to destroy the GTA III era gameworld, after so much building ... i loved the old games, how all the characters had met each other, how each game explained a different part of the citys story, how funny it was and yet serious at the same time, all the great characters

then GTA IV came out, with its more '' serious'' tone, and i was bored out of my mind ... i hate the city, i hate the characters, i hate the story, i hated everything about it
so unless they decide to jump back to the world of GTA III, i dont think i'll be getting GTA V :|
but it doesnt matter, im just one person, most people loved gta IV , so maybe they will enjoy the next one :)

I like the more serious tone. If you want a GTA III style game play Saints Row. If you want a GTA I/II style game play Retro City Rampage.

Then play GTA III era games. Nobody is stopping you. Personally I like the direction Rockstar has been going. They have been taking risks, something few developers do.

I loved San Andreas.
Hated GTA IV, just couldn't get into it.
So I'm really hoping this will be good. Miss the gta games.

If only you'd caught it earlier. I got every game in the series - that is, from the ancient original right up to the latest expansions - for £5. I can't remember exactly what the sale was for, it might have been the anniversary of GTA3, but it's probably the single best deal I've ever had in a Steam sale. I haven't played the games much but I think I will in the run-up to release day so that the improvements in the new game are even more noticeable.

i know, i never said i dont play them
my point was just to say that i would have preffered if they kept the old world, and that even if saints row is similar to the older games, it isnt the same :P

i do still play them, i own all the GTA III era games (Gta III, up until gta Vice City Stories)

I actually don't understand the hype. a lot of the things this game has in it are just things they removed that were in San Andreas when they made GTA IV. and now it appears they are just putting them back in again.

I wasn't a fan of GTA IV, and i already have San Andreas, so i don't think I'm going to bother with this game.

Yup, I was only just able to watch the video properly (my internet is choppy :| )

all I saw were things that the games already had before. the whole 3 characters thing doesn't really look too amazing, and it looks like something that they'll use in a few missions here and there. and all round I still can't see what there is to be excited about. better graphics? this doesn't mean I don't like what the characters look like, as they seem to be reasonably amusing people, so I suppose that's always a plus.

but I suppose, if I'm honest, I must be biased against it already. i never liked the decision to abandon the GTA III universe, so I'm always going to have a couple of things to complain about.

in the end, I doubt my opinion really counts for too much.

From what i've heard, they have improved every aspect of the typical GTA gameplay. Hopefully, they have learnt their lesson with GTA4 as [&@%!] babysitting your friends is not fun! I do like that the other two PCs will do their own thing whilst you are controling the 3rd one but I do hope their AI is decent. I'm going to wait for the reviews before deciding on it but it sounds like it's going to be much better then GTA4.

Looks amazing. Too bad it's coming out in September along with Rome II: my wallet will be plundered.

It seems like Rockstar has taken ideas from Max Payne 3 (the gunplay) and Red Dead Redemption (the gunwheel) and rightly so. Gunplay looks very satisfying and the driving finally looks to have some damn weight to it (driving in GTA IV feels a bit floaty at times). And the city... the city... damn! Looks very alive and the nature part is a great addition (the streets of Liberty City were cool, but it missed the open areas of San Andreas). I also like the fact that there seem to be a ton of side activity (even a stock market).

All this hype made me want to play GTA IV again, so I'm completing the story-line for the second time. After that I'll finally play Episodes From Liberty City, which I still haven't even touched. GTA IV seems to get a lot of hate, but you can't deny it's an amazing game, just like every GTA before that. And no doubt V will be amazing as well. Can't wait!

I will deny it. It was an average and disappointing game that almost had no side activities. I know GTA4 did have some but they were either small time wasters that didn't really suit GTA or just the bog standard stuff.

GTA IV wasn't a bad game, but it was much more serious than it's predecessors, so it didn't quite live up to my expectations. The GTA-games, to me, are big playgrounds where all kinds of ridiculous [&@%!] can happen. GTA IV lacked in that department, but judging by the trailers for GTA V, they've brought back the ridiculousness full on. I'm very excited about this game.
