Dragonborn (DLC) Discussion
Re: Dragonborn (DLC) Discussion
The trailer didn't blow me away or anything, but the premise of the dlc has me quite exited.

Could that creature that is spewing liquid be a Myncoid? I am not even sure if they exist in TES but with all of those mushrooms.....

The mushrooms are Emperor Parasols. They're a mainstay of Dunmer culture, as they're used for both wood to build traditional houses and the actual mushrooms themselves are often used for housing, with something resembling Hobbit holes cut into the sides for entrances.
To my knowledge nothing called a Mycoid exists in TES lore, although the floating thing spewing acid looks like a miniature version of Hermaeus Mora himself, and since it appeared to be in the Daedric realm we'll visit let's say it's a lesser daedra. I'm calling it a Librarian until I learn differently.
Or did you mean the thing that kinda looked reptilian?

Reptilian, I did not get a good look at it. The floating squid i just assumed was an illithid like creature.
FYI for anyone who is confused: Myncoids are mushroom monsters that guard their "herd" (mushrooms) from invaders.

Re: Dragonborn (DLC) Discussion
I'm not sure what the reptile thing was. It's somewhat similar to a Scalion from Shivering Isles, but distinct. It looks like the Creature from the Black Lagoon. There was nothing like this on Solstheim during Bloodmoon. Besides the Nordic monsters like Grahl or Udyrfrykte (Thiirsk word for a particularly powerful Troll boss.) the animals on Solstheim were pretty standard. Bears. Wolves. Boars. Horkers. That sorta thing. There also wasn't anything resembling the oil spitting creature in Morrowind, but keep in mind we haven't seen main land morrowind outside of Mournhold since Arena, and that hardly counts these days.

Repost from me on TWC.
0:12
Mask sanctuary in Labyrinthine.
0:15
Maskless Dragon Priest.
Theory: The Dragon Priest the trailer talks about is Konahrik (Means "Warlord") Which was the only Dragon Mask with no Priest.
0:20
Skaal village with Chieftain/Shaman.
0:24
Obviously Solstheim, Scaled up to fit Skyrim's engine. To the far left you can see Mushrooms and Muck-sponges, indigenous to Vvardenfal and never seen on Solstheim before.
0:28
Telvanni Mushroom town, Iconic Morrowind image.
0:27
Bull Netch in Basalt or Ice cave. Again Morrowind.
Theory: Heavy Dunmer settlement on the Island, It looks like the Red year had a serious climatic effect on some parts of the Island.
0:28
Here you can see three House Redoran Crab houses on the left and a Nordic roof on the right. The walls in the background are Imperial in style. Is that a Volcano in the background?
0:29
Dragon Arches, Skeleton of Dragon held by statue.
0:33
More dead Dragons. "He Devoured them"
0:36
More Dragon architecture, held up by scaffolding. Someone has been digging?
0:41
Some slime book grows limbs and Dova rapes. "Like them he seeks to return"
0:44
Pages everywhere in a land that looks nothing like Solstheim. Inside the book?
0:46
Church like area, notice the green sky.
0:48
Telvanni again, the blue thing looks like a magical lift.
0:49
Dragon building again.
0:50
Ordinator style Armor with Bound Daedric armor summoned on top, a door with a statue over it can just be seen.
0:52
Dragon riding in other dimension. They look nothing like Skyrim Dragons, Females?
0:55
Obelisk guarded by more men in furs explodes.
0:56
Killing a Snow Elf.
0:58
Sea Creature with Snow Elf armor.
1:01
Killing Goblin in Ice Cave, Dwemer item in back ground. Guy in Nordic Troll bone armor.
1:02
Killing Sea thing. Walls are made out of wet books. Other dimension? Elvin Armour.
1:03
Undead outside ruined Fort.
1:08
Rieklings on Tusked Bristlebacks, the Player is also mounted on one!
1:09
Killing man in Tomb. The mask makes me think he's a Dragon Cultist.
1:10
Riding Dragon with mountain in Background.
1:23
Absorbing Dragon soul "He (Konahrik?) was the first."
Ending: Main Theme comes back, sounds weak and distant, almost in the past.
Conclusion: DLC is going to be very Morrowind in style. But the main plot is about Konahrik's return.

The old mask was his Dragon Priest mask. Once he started killing the Dragons for their souls he might have discarded it as representing his old identity. I'd guess that the Wooden Mask brings you back to just after the Sealing of the Priests. Symbolically gathering the Priests by bringing the masks together gives you the mask of Konahrik. There's something appropriate in the Dragonborn wearing the face of his predecessor after echoing his deeds in reverse.Duderino Abides wrote:I guess it could be Konahrik... so he just discarded the other mask for the new one he's wearing?

Re: Dragonborn (DLC) Discussion
I really hope that we have to complete the main quest in order to start Dragonborn as the Last Dragonborn facing the first after he has killed Alduin would be excellent instead of the Dovahkiin deciding to go away for a few months whilst Alduin raises his army. Plus, it would result in the Dovahkiin being very powerful(from a lore point of view, the Dovahkiin would have had to explore Skyrim for words of power and slay dragons in order to stand a chance against Alduin before Dragonrend). The first dovahkiin, i assume will be just as powerful. Am hoping he will be level 50-81 with a ton of health, his shouts are stronger then yours due to him having centuries to practice and devouring hundreds if not thousands of dragons. Will be disappointed if it's an easy battle without any dialog or if he spams unrelenting force every few seconds.

Where do you guys get the "The last dragonborn" from ????
I don't believe that the champion from Skyrim will be the last, i believe him to be the latest but definitely not the last !
My theory is that since the dragons return to Tamrial, so will the dragonborns.

Remember that the wooden mask seems to sending you into the past, so Konahrik's mask could actually be somewhere out there at the time of Skyrim as well.Dunmerdude wrote:The old mask was his Dragon Priest mask. When the Brass Tower walks and Time is reshaped

I think the reason that you had to time-travel was because Konahrik's mask in the modern world is probably broken up to the point that it lost its functions.

Re: Dragonborn (DLC) Discussion
This DLC is going to rock.
THE GOOD
An enemy in the trailer is using a spear and I've not seen any enemies in the vanilla game or current DLC that you couldn't pick up and wield weapons from after you kill them, The armor looks great as well. The story seems a bit like Lonesome Road from Fallout New Vegas but in an Elder Scrolls flavor, instead of killing the original Courier you kill the original Dragonborn "supposedly according to the trailer".
THE BAD
I've already been to Solstheim in Morrowind and I didn't much care for it, I know the dunmer live there now and it's changed but I still think other areas could have been more interesting to explore such as Orsinium as there are some neat books about it and it's not large enough to base an actual game on unlike Elsweyr or Valenwood.
THE UGLY
Dragon Mounts... I had a feeling this would happen but I thought Bethesda were above such things.
Overall it looks better than Dawnguard in my opinion and I'm glad they are adding Spears which were sorely lacking in the Vanilla game and the mods are quite bad for them. From what I've seen so far I'd give it an 8/10 while Dawnguard gets a 6/10, I don't think Hearthfire is big enough to really rate.

Re: Dragonborn (DLC) Discussion
Also from that verse it could simply mean the last of their kind in the sense that the Dovahkiin is the only Dragonborn in the world at the time; it's already been made clear that the Dragonborn don't necessarily have to come from a lineage, and can be gifted with the power in times of need. There's nothing in the campaign to suggest that there won't be any more, as while Alduin may have been a cause for their existence he definitely wasn't the one creating all of them. He may have created some though depending on how the Dragon Priests as Dragonborn thing plays out, since it isn't clear if the first Dragonborn was the only Dragon Priest with that gift, or if the priests were chosen for that reason and he was simply the first Dragon Priest. Plenty of interesting stuff for the DLC to answer though!cowleyj wrote:It has been mentioned that dragonborn in this sense may be plural- like the word sheep.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:The World-Eater wakes, and the Wheel turns upon the Last Dragonborn.[/i]
We still don't know if they're mounts or just a new scripted sequence. Maybe even an added way to quickly travel back to Solstheim? Presumably it won't be visible on the map in the same way the Shivering Isles weren't in Oblivion, so you'll either have to go to the port (likely how you start out doing it) or summon a dragon to take you perhaps? I mean it may still be on the map, since it's not as fixed as Oblivion's and Solstheim isn't all that far really, who knows?Travalanche wrote:Dragon Mounts... I had a feeling this would happen but I thought Bethesda were above such things.
I'm not sure a flying mount would work desperately well in the game engine; I wouldn't mind being wrong as I'm not really opposed to the idea, I just have reservations about whether it'd be worth using, largely dependent on how it interacts with other flying dragons as the last thing I'd want is another dragon kicking my ass because I can't attack effectively from dragon-back.
My one major gripe with the Dragonborn DLC is that what I'd most like to see is a DLC that greatly expands upon the Civil War, and/or one that investigates the Dwemer in far greater depth (no pun intended). The former because the Civil War is a bit too basic as it stands, and should really be more of a major event than it is. The latter because it's a big mystery, and could be something very different from the DLC so far as while it would surely have a ton of combat, it would also have a large amount of exploration and investigation; although Dwemer ruins do become tedious quite quickly in Skyrim, but maybe wouldn't be so if we could find some in much better condition, or even travel in time to see one with the Dwemer still alive and well. Not that leaving it a mystery is a bad thing either, as the last thing we want to answer every question in the lore, but given the presence they had in Skyrim it would make sense to expand their stuff further and would also allow the Snow Elves to be expanded upon at the same time, as seeing the Snow Elf ruin in Dawnguard was nice, but left me wanting some more of the Snow Elves as they were, rather than the Falmer as they are now.
Still, there's hopefully some more to come from Skyrim DLC, so there's still a chance of one of those or something else, and Dragonborn does look cool, it just wasn't one of the things I was hoping for. I'm also hoping Skyrim DLC will continue well on the way towards Elder Scrolls VI, rather than leaving a huge gap as Oblivion did

Re: Dragonborn (DLC) Discussion
The Dovahkiin was Akatosh's plan to stop Alduin from enslaving all of Nirn after he was banished by the 4 heroes. After the defeat of Alduin, there is no need for a Dragonborn thus it seems that Akatosh has decided to retire the role of Dragonborn. The walls of Oblivion are sealed forever due to Martin during the Oblivion crisis thus elimanting the need for a Dragonborn emperor. You could argue that there are still dragons to slay but the dovahkiin's main purpose is to send Alduin back to Akatosh.
Akatosh is the only one that can give a person the soul of a dragon and would have been very foolish to give Alduin that power. Thus he decided to either test what would happen if he gave a mortal the soul of a dovah or was the first attempt at stopping Alduin, which didn't work.

Shield and Magic wielding at once.
That new mask looks Daedric It also has the same squid theme as the other Dimension. I think the dimension is Hermaeus Mora's realm. So is the other Dragonborn working with Hermaeus Mora? If he had access to everything anyone will ever know ever that could explain his Dragonborn powers.
