Re: Scariest Moments in Skyrim
not realizing they added gargoyles to the rest of the vanilla game, so i'm going through a vanilla dungeon, not expecting anything... then BOOM! one of the scarier moments for sure.
Re: Scariest Moments in Skyrim
Going through Snapleg Cave I just came across one of those soul gem pillar traps. I didn't see it, first thing I knew an ice bolt was coming at me, that genuinely made me say [&@%!] and my heart is now beating at around 250 bpm.

I have to say that the scariest moments are when you're taking a lovely midnight stroll and you can hear a growl and a gosh darn cave bear takes you from behind.

When a bear, saber cat, spriggan, or werewolf gets the jump on you at a low level, especially as a squishy mage character with no armor. Just about all of those creatures will kick your hind oh so hard in a just an attack or two. And whats worse, spriggans can heal!

Honestly can't think of a scared moment so the closest would be the free fall trap in the Dwemmer Ruin of Raldbthar which killed a my level 50 Lunari, which did really surprise me.

My scariest moment was when:
My second scariest moment was when I was doing Dampened Spirits. So I walk into the basement, see some skeevers, start laughing, and a few minutes later I was down to barely any health...Then I met a maniac mage and some frostbite spiders. Long story short, I reloaded and didn't care that it was unrealistic that someone who was supposed to be an exterminator wears full armor and carries a warhammer on his back.

The scariest moments are when a deer or a fox randomly runs into your character without making a sound and you have no clue what's going on. I really wish that power you get for reading all the etched tablets was permanent.

Now, I don't care what anyone else thinks, but the first time going into Yngvild, reading those damn diaries, that's pretty damn scary. Not in an "Aaaargh!" kind of way, but more in a "F*** this is creepy..." kind of way.

Re: Scariest Moments in Skyrim
I just yesterday had quite a scare when I, pretty daringly, decided to investigate a Dwemer hideout with my sneaky Dead is Dead character. On top of that I was listening some music at the backround so I didn't hear all the sounds. I had cleared one part of the ruin, then came back, went around the corner and BAM, almost ran straight into two Falmer Shadowmasters. They just brushed past, though one of them did hear something and decided to investigate. I managed to hide though.
My heart leap into my throat because they just freaking came out of nowhere and because my DiD character was only lvl 14 (I can encounter the highest level enemies anytime because of a mod). She relies on sneak attacks or just manouvers around the strongest enemies. There was a high chance that she would have died if those Shadowmasters ever found her. I happen to like this character and I really don't want her to die. She's the first Dead is Dead character who has managed to make it this far. All the other have died before they reached lvl 5 =P

Re: Scariest Moments in Skyrim
First time a Dwarven Spider came out of a pipe took me by surprise, and that first Draugr boss-fight in Bleak Falls Barrow was pretty dicey, maybe not scary as such but it was one hard fight first time round.
Actually my first Dwemer ruin in general was pretty scary, I can't actually remember which one it was (doesn't help the names are all impossible to remember…) but I kept finding myself admiring the area which left me open to being surprised by Falmer and other enemies.
All the staged horror moments for me weren't too bad, though the first encounter with Astrid was a pretty big moment, even if I didn't really like the rest of the quest-line.

Re: Scariest Moments in Skyrim
SkyMO has given me plenty of scares. Scariest moment for me though was from a mod called Sands of Time. It adds a lot more random encounters. I'm leaving Markarth after a fit of murder, and suddenly some Thalmor decide to attack. I kill them fairly easily, but suddenly, Burning Inferno appears to make me repent for my dastardly deeds. She used a spell that imprisoned me in a stone cage, then two shot me with some crazy fire spells. And I was playing a dead is dead character too. :pMod-Loving Wood Elf wrote:My fist dragon priest encounter. J'Zargo and I had felled a dragon in about three hits and I was absorbing the dragon soul and silently celebrating. Suddenly, there was a crash as the dragon priest arose from its grave, and it blasted J'Zargo with an ice spell. J'Zargo died in one hit and was flung off the side of the mountain, and the dragon priest looked ready to do the same to me. I was so scared for my own life that I sprinted away and never came back.
Sounds cool, although I checked and the author has the file hidden right now, so no downloading for me. Personally, I think a lot of the new monsters from the Skyrim Monster Mod are imaginatively frightening. Some of them are very Witcher- and Lovecraft-inspired inspired, and it's always a scare to find a new monster from the mod.kailay wrote:Nothing in Vanilla Skyrim, but I have a mod installed called Legendary Creatures and it adds a Centurion called The Boiler into Blackreach and it is crazy strong and really hard to take down. It kept killing me so I shot it with an arrow, ran away and hid and a Chaurus Hunter sneaked up behind me and killed me. Really made me jump!

Re: Scariest Moments in Skyrim
Kinda early on in the game, I was walking through some snowy place next to the water. I battled some bandits or something and walked a little further along the coast. I heard some weird noises and I turned around and BAM! 3 F***ING HORKERS were waddling out of the water! Scariest thing ever! That was the first horker encounter I experienced.

Seeing Astrid.
That freaked me out. I wasn't really prepared for it in all honesty.

Practically every time that an enemy sneaks up on me and then pounces, that is always [&@%!] scary, especially so when I'm tired that day.

Oh, and despite what I have said already:
That creepy sound draugr make when they have woken up and start searching for whatever woke them up. If you hear that but can't see any Draugr, and have a fear of the undead to boot, then that's pretty damn panic-inducing.

The scariest moment for me was in what I think was darkfall cave. Where you fall into the waterfall and 3 spiders fall with you into the water then fling out of the water either on top of you or in front of you. I'm deathly afraid of spiders much less being face to face with enormous ones.

Re: Scariest Moments in Skyrim
Speaking of Darkfall Cave, that fall alone was enough to scare me the first time through. I was expecting the bridge to go out the first time I stepped on it... Never mind the second.ZackyZombify wrote:The scariest moment for me was in what I think was darkfall cave. And, on the topic of sudden long falls initiated when something drops from underneath you...

Re: Scariest Moments in Skyrim
I get freaked out whenever there is an immensely strong enemy, the most recent was a deathlord that could kill me with a shout on his first try.
Most of the jump scares happen often, but considering that I've gotten so used to them, they don't feel, like scares anymore, and serve to only dull my senses as I think about what just happened.

Mine would be going into first person view try to loot a dead ice wraith and getting mauled to death by a frost troll from behind.

Re: Scariest Moments in Skyrim
Had another one today.
Other than that? Main things that surprise me most are when I suddenly discover that I'm getting really low on health. It's a mini panic attack as I reach for the button to either cast a healing spell (Or two... Or three...) or chug some potions.

Re: Scariest Moments in Skyrim
For me it was in Yngol Barrow and there are these trippy glowing things that are bouncing around and NO enemies and the the draugr gets up and disarms my sword, backup sword, bow, staff of fireballs, random weapon i found, and even my little dwarven dagger i was going to sell and i was like
so i have to fight a scourge lord level draugr and about level 17 ish with my puny stealth fists. I hate him so much.
