The amount of damage you can do with a sword is limited by your Blade skill. If you become a Master of Blade (Skill of 100), you are able to deal 100% of the listed damage with that sword.

Anything less is— well, anything less.

The condition of your sword affects the damage as well: a sword at 50% life will not be able to do as much damage as one at 100%. You can, if your Armorer skill is 75 or above, fix your sword up to 125%, which means an extra little damage.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Does class have something to do with DPS as well? I'm currently playing as a nightblade. But if I rolled, say, a barbarian or warrior, would I be doing more damage since those classes start off with higher strength?

I'm trying to max out my blade skill and to make sure my weapons are always repaired, but I'm wondering if class as as big an impact on this game as it does in other RPGs.

Why not make a custom class

To increase your Blade skill, just get into a lot of fights. Fast travel to camps and kick some butt there. Use your repair hammers if necessary. Carry a dagger on the side and use poisons if you think things are going to get ugly.

Other than your starting stats, Class doesn't have much to do with anything except how easy/difficult it will be to train particular skills. With proper planning and a little determination, it is possible to train non-Class skills so they're up to par with just about any other type.

I have a good way to get your blade up. Do the quest for the gray prince where

SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!

He finds out that he is a vampire. Then when you get far enough into the arena where you battle him. It is legal to attack him as he is your opponent in the arena but he won't attack you if you did his quest as he wants do die because he is mad about being a vamp. Simply bring your weakest blade, probably an iron dagger and slash away at him. It'll take a while for him to die since you are using a weak weapon. However it will raise it pretty well. If you have a lot of time on your hands you can bring a convalescence spell to restore his health so that you can continue using it on him.

Or you could get a summon zombie spell, Pretty sure anyone would be able to cast it.

That way you can lvl blade/block/conjuration/resoration all at the same time...... but what would be the fun in that?
