Does anyone know from a programming standpoint why they release these base files for the next DLC in unrelated patches?

Or is there no reason other than to stir up hype?

One reason could be to have a greater number of beta testers for features that reside deep in the core of the code, so that no unexepted things happen on the final releases.

The other reason is surely it is free marketing .

That might be, but last time they had some data on a pre-dlc patch as well, and then had a full beta release of dawnguard a couple weeks before it came out to everyone

it might be for easier integration, or to cut down on install size and download times.

So this has to do with the little leak that was found in the last patch and the copyrighted name "Dragonborn." It's not a DLC wishlist or speculation on any of the notes found within the patch unless they pertain to Dragonborn...

I was wondering if there would be a second dragonborn, and if perhaps that is cause for the title. Is there any lore disputing the possibility? I personally like the idea, but for the players that are less receptive to the deeper pieces of the game, i think it could cause confusion. Unless you engage in conversation with Arengir and ask him about being Dragonborn, there is no hint that there could be others. ( he says "you are the only that has revealed yourself. Whether there are others.. that is not ours to know." Perhaps he means only Akatosh knows? or even foreshadowing that it is for you, the player, to know?) Most casual players are lead to believe they are the last and only Dragonborn, so adding another could confuse them, which gives me reason to believe Beth might not do this.

What are your thoughts on there being a second Dragonborn, and how do you think he/she will be presented/ what will thier role be?

I wouldn't be surprised if there is another Dragonborn, just because of what Arengir said. I do hope Bethesda is going somewhere sharp with this if that is the case though. I will admit, both of my lady characters will be burning with jealousy if such a thing happens. From a player's perspective, I am curious and open minded enough to enjoy having another Dohvakiin around. Why not? The more, the merrier. Plus I think it will deepen the game.

That gives me the idea... what if this other Dragonborn ends up being an enemy rather than a friend... or if it is a choice whether to kill this enemy or not. I feel that would deepen the player character and add a lot more meaning to "Dragonborn"... as in, you are the only one/ the most powerful one etc.

Although i dont neccisarily think the other Dragonborn will be an enemy, it would certainly be interesting to learn that all this time you have been fighting the dragons and Alduin, theres been another on Solstheim.

At first i thought it would be cool if it was an old member of the Skaal tribe that was the other Dragonborn, and becomes your mentor... but i decded that would be too redundant of the Greybeards. Im hoping it is an enemy, because i think they could make a really cool bad guy from the Dragonborn concept.

I have to admit i get enough of being FUS RO Dah'd by the draugr deathlords... although the 1.8 patch notes seem to suggest mounted dragons. Boss fight anyone?

If you recall some early discussion with Arngeir, you (the player) can ask if you're the only dragonborn. Arngeir gives a very open ended answer--merely saying that (you) are the only one that is currently known to the Greybeards. It is ENTIRELY possible that another dragonborn could be revealed in this new DLC, or even in a FUTURE DLC. Perhaps as an adversary. Perhaps even as an ally.

My money's on a dragon mount. Probably Odahviing. I mean, we rode him once, sorta.

They died with Martin, unless there's *another* illegitimate heir floating around somewhere, which is nigh impossible, would be utterly silly, and would equate to Bethesda spitting on their own lore.

Not to mention the fact that 200 years of Septim blood intermingling with other blood, on the account that this person would've been the "last Septim" would make a Septim in this game contain harldy any actual Septim blood... there are no more Septims. Martin made sure of that. If there were, they would have been the one to presumable mantle Talos and defeat Alduin, not us.

From my viewpoint, the second Dragonborn was already mentioned in this thread. We don't need a separate thread to discuss speculation about what might be in DLC. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss this further. Thanks!

I have been thinking that the dragonborn reference is about another dragonborn and not our character as well. All of the beth DLCs that I can think of off the top of my head are named after either the place you will go, or a faction or problem that it focuses on.

Apparently the new patch is out of beta and is downloadable on steam now, so I'm hoping for an announcement soon

Since i completed the main quest the first time i was under the impression that because the dragons where returning so will the dragonborns. There for it would only be a matter of time before someone else will discovery the also are dragonborn.
I just didn't think we would meet them our self and are not sure i think we will...

But i would love the opportunity to chose between joining or fighting them.
